Aberdeen dismantled

From Celtic’s starting lineup at Aberdeen last night, only Callum McGregor will expect to keep his place when the teams meet in the Scottish Cup Final in just over a week. That prospect should terrify Jimmy Thelin’s players, who were thoroughly dismantled in a 1-5 defeat.

Aberdeen’s most effective strategy was to clear the ball off the goal-line in desperation. A 7 minute interruption to play lulled Celtic into momentary complacency, which allowed Aberdeen to break down the left, for Kevin Nisbet to score with a fine header. That equalised Maik Nawrocki’s opening goal. The Pole delivered another flawless performance, adding to the wonder of why we have not seen more of him.

Three goals either side of the interval ended the game as a contest. Yang punched home a loose ball inside the six-yard box. McCowan was given Freedom of the Beach End to put his laces through a shot from 8 yards, but the goal of the game went to Johnny Kenny. The Irish striker scored his first goal for Celtic with a fine timed run and header.

Aberdeen lost discipline; Dorrington collected a second yellow card, Reo Hatate was brutally kicked and the score should have gone higher before Adam Idah knocked the ball over the line in added time.

Aberdeen have lots to consider before Hampden.

if i was brendan and the coaches, i would be telling them, you have that chance to become celtic greatest ever goal scoring league winners,

look at the spread of goalscorers, we definately can do it, no thoughts on the cup final, just a day of great record breaking, why not.

we finished on 114 goals – 2 short of equalling the record, but worse for me on reflection, with 6 games to go, we could have broken all the records, having lost only 1 game to that point we managed to lose 2 and draw 2, hindsight is easy but i wonder if he knew he was leaving by then,

What a brilliant performance last night. To make that many changes and still sheer the sheep was brilliant. That goes to show you the work put in by players and coaches alike that players who very rarely play, are paying close attention to what the coaches expect when you do get the chance. Little things like the in/out run by young Kenny for his header, or the constant movement of our mids, to the directness of both Yang and wee Jamesie was a joy to watch. Now getting back to the seriousness of Saturday, of course our fans will be blamed if/when something bad happens. This lot hijack any day/historical date or whatever they can. VE day, 5/8/1945, and I thank them for celebrating my Fenian grandfather and his part in that awful war. I remember as a wee kid and the walks going through Wishy main street and my auld man and his friends locked in the Cross Keys as the tangerine mobs walked by , banging their drums and throwing their wee sticks with the tennis ball up in the air. We used to go play in the big park with our Celtic tops on or our Donegal Gaelic tops on, the hordes would get so pissed. My wee maw used to tell us to stay in but nah:))))

Be safe all you fellow Tims. Enjoy this weekend. Thanks Brendan and the Bhoys. Hope wee Reo is safe and sound.

Contrary to the views of others, last night’s match will have great significance in the Cup Final for the injury-absence of Reo Hatate.

That the challenge merited only a booking is a disgrace and shows up the lack of game knowledge by the referee

Not disagreeing with anything that you say there but if Reo is out BR’s teamtalk will need to consist of two things only – run the video of that tackle and then tell the players to do it for Reo.

That should be enough for whatever team is picked to destroy Aberdeen.

So let’s me get this correct celtic supporters are being told where they should and should not go before ans after a game of football, is that correct? Sorry I am a tax paying members of the public but my choices are being dictated to from local government. Does any other group I.e. concert goers, rugby supporters etc…. get their liberties restricted and removed ???

Glasgow city council urges celtitic supporters to stay away, we should take that seriously. police scotland urged glasgow city council to organise something to help control things better knowing that supporters would like to celebrate. Perhaps if the council had practiced what they preach there would be no issue at all.

Finally the idea that it cost the council 100 of thousands to pick up some rubbish is ridiculous. Also if it is such a big issue they could place skips around the area to reduce the issue.

Adam probably one of the most forensicly scrutinised player in the squad getting his 22nd goal of the season which I include the deflection against Young Boys and for the ROi against Bulgaria.

  26. The evolution of the east end of Glasgow city centre to what it is now, in my lifetime, is something I certainly never foresaw.

That Celtic supporters can go and drink in really good quality establishments in that area without fear of trouble and with no intent of causing trouble shows how far we have come as a society.

It also speaks volumes to the bravery and initiative of people like my former business partner who created Graces. I honestly only saw challenges when he shared the idea with me. He ploughed on and to his credit he has created a venue to be proud of. More importantly it is a really decent hub for decent Celtic people to visit. Just as it is also a decent hub for people from all around the world to visit. It is a quality anchor for Celtic fans in the town I would never have imagined possible.

I really hope the actions and comment from the authorities do not stoke the flames and lead to any problems on the side of the city which has been green and white and largely peaceful these past few years. I really hope our support respects the boundaries of reasonableness too. More importantly I hope those who would seek to disrupt us can be properly ‘managed’ by our law and order enforcement officers who appear to have absolved themselves of responsibility early on with their statements.

We could have 2 weeks of great celebrations to enjoy as yesterday another season of success comes to a close. We may not see this kind of domination in years to come. Hopefully we can all enjoy it the right way.

  32. Brendan reacted to Reo’s assault because it happened right in front of BR, in full glare of the ‘live’ TV Cameras. So BR couldn’t deploy his usual silence routine.

Or, maybe BR is due some sort of redirected kickback ‘£bonus’ from the sale of Reo in the summer window?!

And, maybe BR silence on mibbery incidents are restricted to when the mibbery decision brings about a defeat or draw which smudges BR image and status ever so slightly.

In other news, it is disappointing that Celtic fans will again reduce themselves to the level of the hun fan desperado’s who desecrate the city centre with songs about ancient conflicts, and other cheap ditties, and sewer songs that relate to Davie Cooper, etc, and leave Glasgow’s streets as though you had all been brought up by trashy SNP/GREENS/LABOUR MP’s and their cheap point scoring, piss fuelled agendas that never address the BIG GIANT ELEPHANT in the room.

You have won millions of trophies and yet you never Once celebrated on Glasgow’s streets – until the huns fans did it, and made a proper ass of themselves!

Doing what huns do is not a good look.

And a lack of leadership and direction from Celtic FC is the reason for this puss-filled lapse in discipline, integrity, identity, because nobody from the Celtic FC gives a toss about, integrity, identity, or we would not be competing in ANY EU-Fascism/European Competition.

Which has been rigged so that an Arabian desert Imperial Colonial Settler country, THOUSANDS OF MILES AWAY FROM EU, can get into European competitions, which the Kelly’s and White’s would not have Celtic FC’s graciousness sullied by kowtowing to crooked cartels, whilst at the same time, Europe’s biggest, and by far the best country, Russia, is banned for defeating the NATO Imperialist invasion through Russia’s backdoor, and sticking it right up the Western banking cartels.

  33. *SENTINEL CELTS PLAYER OF THE YEAR 2024-25*

*RESULTS FROM GAME #55 ABERDEEN 1 CELTIC 5 (NAWROCKI, YANG, McCOWAN, KENNY, IDAH)*

    Good evening, friends.

Yet another fine performance from The Champions saw us ultimately blow Aberdeen away. And that was with a starting line up which arguably only featured 1 player likely to be in the cup final starting 11. Those Bhoys put on a fine display of quick attacking football, getting forward quickly and looking strong on both sides.

Yang’s early positive play led to the first yellow card for Dorrington after only 2 minutes when he stopped our South Korean winger from breaking clear down the left. Loads of positive play followed with complete domination of the possession and yet we had to wait 30 minutes for the breakthrough. A great inswinging cross from McCowan was rewarded when Nawrocki held off his marker and rose to place a well directed header into the bottom corner.

Shortly after this, play was halted for around 7 minutes due to a medical emergency in the crowd and this stoppage seemed to affect the flow and pace of the game as Aberdeen got their equaliser within a minute of the game restarting. The Celtic central defenders could have done a lot better but Nisbet rose unchallenged in the 6 yard box to head home. However, deep into first half stoppage time (53 minutes after the kick off time) Celtic were back in front. Determined play by Forrest down the right saw his tight angled cross (shot?) parried by the Dons keeper. And Yang reacted quickly to fire into the net.

The second half turned out to be one way traffic. In the 48th minute Forrest had his second assist of the night playing a ball into McCowan who kept composed, took a couple of touches and then hammered a shot in off the keeper’s shoulder. And 5 minutes later we put the result beyond doubt. Yang did well inside and fed McCowan out on the left. Luke’s cross was met by Kenny and a top class glancing header gave 21 year old Johnny his first Celtic goal.

With half an hour remaining, Brendan withdrew Ralston and McGregor for Hatate and Johnston with the Canadian being given the captain’s armband. I’ve said before that I hope he is our permanent captain one day. 10 minutes later and it was Yang and Kenny who completed their shift, replaced by Kuhn and Idah.

Celtic continued to create chances and on the 77th minute Bernardo played a penetrating pass through the middle for Adam to run onto. Dorrington clipped Idah and rightly received his 2nd yellow and Aberdeen were down to 10 men.

Our final substitution was in the 80th minute when McCowan made way for 17 year old Sean McArdle. Although the youngster only got 15 minutes he shone very well during this period suggesting a maturity well beyond his years. Hopefully he gets more game time before the season end.

With almost the last kick of the ball Celtic completed the rout when Kuhn’s effort bobbled off the keeper and a defender but Adam Idah pounced to bundle home his 20th goal of the season.

A very enjoyable Wednesday night’s viewing!

Our gap at the top remains 17 points. We have now played 55 games this season. In Europe we played 10, won 3, drew 4 and lost 3 scoring 15 goals and conceding 17. Domestically we have now played 45, winning 36, drawing 5 and losing 4, scoring 142 goals and conceding 32.

With just 1 league game remaining our goals scored in the SPL total 111. The record, held by Celtic under Ange in season 2022-23 is 114 so we need 4 against St Mirren to beat that.

Since we lost to St Johnstone we have played 6 games and scored 24 goals. Arithmetic is on our side!

Thank you so much to the 71 who voted this time around, 1 more than my own end of season game by game target! 2 games to go and 142 emails required to probably convince me to do it all again next season!
