Aberdeen, getting a grip, Doncaster

251

I know I’m not the only one who was keen on a league challenge this season, preferably from Aberdeen, not the effervescent Hamilton Accies, who made some early running.  Aberdeen, of all other Scottish clubs, have the potential to push Celtic further.

That all came tumbling down during the steak pie yesterday, as I watched scores on my phone.  A challenge is OK, but the temerity to go top of the league in January is something else.

Celtic had largely sorted their early season performance problems but an undeserved defeat at Dundee United and a wholly deserved point for Ross County opened the door to Aberdeen, who have threatened to get their act together for 18 months and finally appear to be delivering.  The frustrating thing for Ronny Deila and his squad, is that Aberdeen will fancy their chances in all of their upcoming games, while it’s another 8 weeks before Celtic will have an opportunity to take points off them.

Some of us pondered that we need competition to sharpen wits and muscles.  It’s welcome, although I may reconsider if we’re not back on top after the Aberdeen game on 28th Feb.

Anyone fretting about the prospects of Four-in-a-Row is respectfully invited to get a grip of themselves.

Neil Doncaster, what a wit*.  He sat in the meeting which rejected newco Rangers’ (then Sevco Scotland’s) application to join the SPL in place of oldco Rangers, who were then on their way to liquidation.

Doncaster met Craig Whyte along with SPL chairman Ralph Topping, in London in October 2011 when Whyte laid his cards on the table – and co-opted Doncaster into selling his doomsday scenario:

‘We’re going down the lavvy, the world will end, but you two can sort it all out, let me flush the detritus and nip into the SPL as though nothing had happened.’

He even suggested the whole episode would be over and done with within three months.  Doncaster was caught in the headlights, dreading having to lose a club midseason, and no doubt had genuine doomsday fears, he folded in the face of that cunning operator, Craig Whyte, and tried to sell Whyte’s plan to SPL clubs.  He failed, after considerable fan pressure.

Yesterday’s interview contained nothing he didn’t say two years ago, but it’s timing raises questions over what exactly he’s doing for his salary, that an inexperienced gardener couldn’t do.

For the record: Rangers appointed a liquidator and changed their name.  Sevco Scotland applied for and received conditional membership to the SFA and Scottish Football League.  They received permission from Rangers administrators to use the name ‘Rangers’.  The newco played its first game against Brechin City….. then oldco Rangers had their SFA membership rescinded.  Oldco and Newco existed as two separate members of the SFA at the same time.

Not since the Big Man explained transubstantiation has anyone tried to sell the same story.  Until Whyte and Doncaster.  Explain the simultaneous memberships – and we might take you seriously, otherwise, leave that patter for off-mic. comments to eager Bears.

But the decision is made by the SPFL board now . The way is clear for them to sink Sevco and Rangers 3 take their league position . The play started when the SFA blocked Ashley.

As predicted on here, the groundwork is being prepared.

Looks very much like Sevco II will coming along shortly.

How its dealt with will determine how many fans walk away from the game for good this time. IMO.

  3. I dont feel they’ll get the playoffs as it stands, Hibs are getting stronger, Queens could push them.

Do you think the SPFL board have forgotten the furore of 2012?

There is no chance of Sevco liquidating and another zombie version retaining their league place. None. Nada. Zilch. Zero

Whether the plan is to liquidate some/all onerous contracts or to take control & continue to service them is anyone’s guess. Either way a share issue will likely follow. The “Heroes” have finally swooped to the rescue will be how this is portrayed within the media. Expect a massive PR drive from all corners of our game, perhaps even from our our own club. Rangers are back & in “Dignified” hands again, isn’t it marvellous.

The greatest swindle in the history of sport is almost complete.

  8. Auldheid,

I am most firmly against any boycott.

My concern is with those who boycott or promote boycotts of our club because of concerns about fair play, and my question, which I think is valid, is did they boycott games against Juve and Milan who have been guilty of impropriety?

If you promote boycotting STs next year, but go along to the Inter game, or went to above games, Imho you are guilty of hypocrisy.

  9. Given Dungcasters statement yesterday re same club, would an administration event result in a 25 point penalty?

  10. Does anyone know if Podolski would be cup tied against us if he goes to Inter ?

Think he played in CL this season but dont know if thst counts.

  12. So the Rangers men have made their move. Good. The lying King was part of the oldco downfall and why anyone would want him back in with a say is beyond me.

No doubt the old supremacy gene will kick in and hearts will rule heads again. It can only lead to further misery down the road.

In the meantime, we need to keep a watch on their trickery and rule bending.

  15. Happy new year everyone. Gutted about the game being called off yesterday was looking forward to it. We better get a reaction from the players against Killie as Aberdeen have their tails up. The 2 games against them so far could have ended up both draws as at Celtic Park they came on strong in the last 20 mins. Having said that we should have been out of sight by half time a story we have repeated often this season missing too many chances.

We regards to the debate on downsizing I feel one of our main problems has been buying players who are crap when they are at Celtic. That is something we need to get right and quickly. Wasting money when it is tight on injury prone iplayer is madness.

Looking fwd to the Killie fame will be watching it on the telly c’mon the hoops

Even a 15 point deduction will keep them in the lower league, so they

might ask for a 25 point deduction, to perpetuate mythology.

    The SFA would duely comply.

if sevco experience an insolvency event it will be a 25pt deduction. Therefore the IE will happen in the summer to ensure that any promotion that Sevco gain will not be messed with.

Who owns the title deeds becomes more critical.

Ashley’s 3 million is not due to be paid until March. Just before ST sale time.

Are Goldilocks and the three bears considering liquidation ?

Ibrox is still an unsecured asset as far as Ashley is concerned. Will that be secured before the summer ? Or will Goldilocks find that 3m beforehand ? Can they secure the bigotdome ?

The new club is out if the question or they would not have invested.

  23. Fwiw, here’s my take on things………….

We’re progressing backwards. RD continually states he sees progress on the field every week. Progress! From what? If we finished a mid table team last season, fair comment. We won the league by 29 bliddy points last season. We are 2nd in this same league at the turn of the year. All the nonsense re we are still in all competitions, we will exit the EL in the next game, will we win a domestic cup??? not very sure about that, will we win this league??? even less confident about that. And before anyone asks, I will be renewing my ST next season and will continue to support the team. Stuff yer boycotts. I’ve lived through worse, just not when we are so far ahead of the whole league financially. All IMHO. Cheers ghuys. KTF like I do. Hahaha.

  25. Doncaster is not in charge, nor is he the sharpest knife in the drawer.

IMHO he wouldn’t dream of going on record to say something that he truly considered controversial. Thus, he must actually believe this to be true, or hasn’t the wit* to recognize what a complete incompetent he actually is.

A decision not to renew an ST is not a boycott. It is an individual decision based on the circumstances that produce it.

If a number of supporters make that decision it’s still not a boycott, so let’s not call it that. It is divisive.

However the possibility that many (at all clubs) might not renew becomes a factor that might provide those in a position to clean up the game the opportunity to do so.

There is a huge difference between having a strategical objective and a knee jerk emotional reaction to events like not going to the Juventus game.

I am making that distinction because I know from experience that Celtic are not necessarily against that kind of pressure from their supporters. In fact it can strengthen their hands.

Not everything is as it seems.

Administration, ditch the debt, 15 point deduction, still make play offs comfortably, honest mistakes when required. Doncaster’s intervention yesterday now makes sense. It’s a stitch up and the SPFL/SFA are part of it. A rangers in premiership next season, debt free run by good rangers men and ready to challenge.

They would have a 25 point deduction. They are the same team after all. They would not get promoted next year. They will struggle to reach the play-offs this season, never mind get promoted, without any penalty.A long ,long way to go in this farce yet.Relax and enjoy.
