Aberdeen last man standing against Celtic again

193

Aberdeen’s win at Fir Park last night may have delayed Celtic’s title party but it will be the form of the Pittodrie team, who remain in the Scottish Cup, which will most concern Brendan Rodgers.  Celtic’s record against Aberdeen has been imperious since the Irishman took over, but the oftener you show your strengths to an opponent, the better prepared they will be next time.

Aberdeen finished second to Celtic in three of the last four domestic competitions and are in the mix for the second in the league and the Scottish Cup final, should we get through our semi, I will be quite happy to see Motherwell also progress to the final.

Before all that, we have Dundee at Celtic Park tonight, then a trip to Hamilton on Sunday.  Win both of those and we will be at least 12 points clear with five post-split games to play.  If Aberdeen drop points in each of their next two games, we could win the league against Newco on 22 April, although it would be nice for our city neighbours to watch a league title being won, it does not look likely.

An SPFL spokesman said: “Work has begun to prepare the Ladbrokes Premiership post-split fixture schedule for 2017/18.

“This work will include consultations with Police Scotland and discussions with Sky Sports and BT Sport regarding live broadcast selections.

“It is expected that the post-split fixture schedule will be published early next week.”

  5. I remember my first HOOTENANNY a few years ago. Apart from the golf I hadn’t met many CQN’ers.

It was agreed that some of us would meet in Charcoals (Indian Restaurant) in the city centre and I duly made my way there on the day appointed.

I am a wee bit early and enter the restaurant to see a big handsome chap sitting at a big table.

  7. IMHO we will get Sevco on the first post-split game. Sky/BT will want it.

With a goal difference over Aberdeen of 26 (plus 4 or 5 tonight) even if they don’t drop points we tie it up first game post-split – but it can be “dressed up” as still not mathematically over. But the whole world and it’s brother will know it is.

Then we will be away top Herttz or Hibs so we can’t officially win it at our own place.

I think you are probably spot on with that. They will arrange it to avoid a home title party.

However…will they factor in the psychological damage that a defeat at the start of the split will do to Sevco for the remaining matches? They don’t seem to handle it very well when we beat them and the hangover usually last a couple of weeks.

  9. !!Bada Bing!! on

VFR- The reason the SPFL are pi$$ing about , is Sevco are bricking it in case they get embarassed on live TV again, so it won’t be 1st game after split. If we have 2 home games left , will we play them on Flag Day?

  10. Would some kind person please outline the benefits, if any, ‘cos I don’t see any, of the so called split. It to me is simply ridiculous. The SPHell must be the only league in the universe with such a stupid, stupid p;and.
