Within around a week of each other, Aberdeen, Newco and Celtic are all likely to sign wide midfield players, although with different profiles. Niall McGinn re-joins Aberdeen on a contract which will expire in 2021, a few weeks short of his 34th birthday. Celtic are set to announce the capture of St Mirren’s Lewis Morgan (21) imminently, while Newco have confounded all by paying money (or at least promising to) for former Motherwell winger, Jamie Murphy (28).
Murphy was irrepressible at Motherwell and it’s no surprise the Newco coaches were interested in him. Media photographs of him this morning suggest he’s a tad out of shape, but if he can recapture his Motherwell form he will be a solid SPFL player.
When Niall McGinn went to Korea in the summer it appeared to signal the end of an Aberdeen team which comfortably established itself as the second best in Scotland – recording a Best of the Rest treble last season. Considering the departures from Pittodrie, and manager Derek McInnes’ dalliances with other clubs, it is surprising Aberdeen have managed to hold onto second spot.
They will need McGinn back at his productive best if they are to finish the season in second against Newco (caveat: if the latter remains solvent).
Celtic’s opportunity is all about transforming Lewis Morgan into the next Stuart Armstrong. As well as being the preferred destination for aspiring talent, we have the luxury of being able to plan long-term. Right now, Lewis is the most exciting prospect of all three. He will join Celtic because he wants to become a Champions League player, not fight for second place.
That will take work on the part of the player, but they know what they are doing at Lennoxtown.

A wee message to pass on…
Hello David, happy New Year.
Many thanks for the Collectors Edition that you sent to me.
Also please thank everybody at Celtic for the voucher from Marks and Spencer.
It is very much appreciated and I send best wishes for 2018. I am sorry I have not been in contact earlier, but have had a busy time.
Thanks again,
Rosemary Simpson.
Park Road 67 When in Perth head to Rosie’s in Northbridge, ask the bar staff for contact details for the Celtic Committee and we will come and have a beer.I live 50km south so give me an hour’s notice, please.Dates for Perth?
Can’t fathom the Sevco finance stories and the signing of new players.
What’s going on?
OLDTIM67 on 5TH JANUARY 2018 12:57 PM
Cheers OLDTIM67 – hard to justify the cash if you can’t make the games, but the emotion definitely comes into it.
On a smaller scale, I kept my ticket going for a couple of years when at Uni and I wasn’t going to many games – the Wayside bus had wound up and I ended up going to many games on my tod.
Not fun when you don’t have anyone to talk rubbish with and difficult to manage on a student’s wages ! Glad I persevered so I was able to integrate Wee BGFC easily into the fold as soon as he could walk :-)
Anyway – your health is the most important thing, so we’ll dedicate a wee prayer to you in Saint David’s, Plains at the weekend.
Hail, Hail

Time bars dont apply if corruption involved -according to the rules.
I think it will all be handled quietly behind the scenes and a solution presented as the open truth would cause heads to roll.

I’ve tried to track down TONYROME’s addy, not got it. And I know I did have it.
I’ve also lost PADDYMACOZ’s addy,and after a further wee look,quite a few more.
I got a new battery installed on Christmas Eve,so I can only assume that’s the source of the problem.
Sincere apologies-but I’ve still got MELBOURNEMICK’s addy!!!!
So,please mail me on
bmcuwp@gmail.com
and I’ll sort it.
(This could cause problems at the next hoot,as people join the clique that weren’t invited!)
PS-can you please include Tony’s addy,if that’s ok?
Morgan deal completed
CELTIC are today delighted to announce the signing of highly-rated Scotland Under-21 internationalist Lewis Morgan from St Mirren on a four-and-a-half year deal.
As part of the agreement with the Paisley club, the winger will spend the rest of the season on loan with the Buddies, before officially joining up with his new Hoops team-mates when they report back for pre-season in the summer.
The 21-year-old has been in fantastic form for Jack Ross’ side during the current campaign, scoring 13 goals to help them to the top of the Championship table, and he has attracted interest from a number of clubs.
But it was the Scottish treble-winners who won the race for his signature and he becomes Brendan Rodgers’ second signing of the January transfer window following the arrival of defender Marvin Compper from RB Leipzig.

Thanks for your reply, surely heads must roll privately or in the open?
Welcome to Celtic Lewis
DAVIDOPOULOS
I get why you’re saying, and Arsene sure has forgotten more about football than I’ll ever know.
(However x2)
-We have signed a winger with 13 goals before the year is out.
-Arsene initially relied heavily on two strikers who were signed before he arrived,Bergkamp and Wright. Wright was still playing Sunday League at 21.
(Though mibbe past his best when he signed for us,the board apparently refused Billy McNeill £500k to sign him in 90)
DESSYBHOY
Yes,indeed.
Welcome to Celtic,Lewis Morgan.
WILLIEFERNIE
We are in Perth from 4th till 7th April , will be in touch nearer the time HH !
Welcome to Celtic, Lewis. And never heed all the SMSM pish about making yourself the next Stuart Armstrong – just make yourself the first Lewis Morgan.
Good luck and HH
OldTim67
Hope you are feelin( better soon buddy.
Keep moaning at your doc.
MWD
OLDTIM67,
Ive just logged on for a moment and read your posts.
I’ve had this Flu for about 8 weeks or so, and I finished the course of “Antis” on Wednesday. I felt a bit better yesterday and went for a few beers to one of my locals.,
however the Doc has given more another course of “Anti’s” an hour ago…along with my very first Inhaler.
I got a taxi home from the Gorbals with some shopping, and I have decided to wait until tomorrow to take the “new Anti’s”…cos I’m going for a right few beers right now !….to cheer me up ?
BT couldn’t make the swally on Wednesday, so I also refrained that day.
Regarding your Flu…get yourself some Hot Burd to cuddle up to you and sweat it out of you….do you want a loan of one of my Burds ?
LOL !
Seriously I hope you and BT and others get better real soon, as my Pyhsio …the lovely Mandy didn’t put me thru any physical stuff today due to my ongoing ( but better) symptoms….hence why I am now going for some Beers as way of not getting any hands on from Mandy the Physio today…I feel very let down ! LOL
hopefully before much longer the cheats WILL be called out…and great Celtic supporters like yourself will not be harbouring any doubts about renewals e
of season books etc ( Health being better also) ?
Look after yourself OLDTIM67 and I wish you and others a speedy recovery.
Hail Hail my Pal.
DALLAS DALLAS,
Thanks mate for your comments in relation to Nicky Henderson info.

OLDTIM:

Question… is the test corruption or fraud? Very different things, which could have significant implications.
Is there no ultimate ,limitation period? Canada has recently followed several other countries in passing one.

Old Tim: As others have said this strain of flu’ seems to last much longer than the ones we are accustomed to at this time of year.Maybe, since it travelled all the way from Australia it thinks ‘It’s no worth going all that way just for a week or two!’ A bit like Mrs CCB who in any flight more than 3 1/2 hours insisted on 21 nights breaks!!
Anyway, stick at it,get new Antis, and a wee toddy (no bloody Hendricks gin) and into bed with a hot water bottle.
If worst comes to worst with season tkt ‘I’m only here for the company(gin) in the BV should keep your spirits up!
Seriously,keep well.
Good afternoon from a rather chilly but fresh central Éire.
Oldtim67 – Get well soon mo chara and keep your spirits up. You’re an absolute gentleman and my brother, his son and I really enjoyed your company in Blane Valley before the Anderlecht game last month.
Also welcome to Paradise Lewis Morgan. This is a really astute signing and thoroughly sensible idea too loaning the chap back to the Buddies until the summer.
Enjoy your weekend Bhoys and stay safe.
HH
DAVIDOPOULOS- Wenger has a very poor record of improving young players, Wilshire,Ramsey,Walcott for example from current squad, they seem to stagnate.IMO
Interesting times re our transfer activity. (excld loans)
Ten players signed only 2 nailed on starters in the first 11.
33 Marvin Compper,
21 Olivier Ntcham,
26 Kundai Benyu,
15 Jonny Hayes,
88 Kouassi Eboue,
12 Cristian Gamboa,
24 Dorus de Vries,
11 Scott Sinclair,
02 Kolo Toure,
10 Moussa Dembele,
.You just feel Brendan has still to flex his muscles in the transfer windows so far.
Be nice to see some first team players come in
Kevjungle,
thank you for your post about crutches.
they are simply a means to an end at are not in any way the worst thing in the world.
My wife works in oncology at Monklands Hospital and a lall the patients there would love to think a pair of crutches would cure them. i am just one of the lucky ones.
Take care of yourself and keep posting I love your posts but do not always agree with them.
Thanks, Martin42

Will be in Jersey for all of February and March. Any Celtic friendly pubs which might show our games? Will be based in St Hellier.
Someone asked earlier about the Patron of USA. Thought I knew the answer but I decided to check to see if I was correct. I found the following in Catholic Philly.com
“At the sixth Plenary Council of Baltimore held in 1846, the bishops of the United States unanimously chose our Blessed Mother under the title of the Immaculate Conception, to be the Patroness of the United States of America”
The following year, Pope Pius lX confirmed the wishes of the bishops expressed at the Council of Baltimore.

I have contacted Paddy Gallagher who is Jersey based. So hopefully he will be able to assist you

CONNAIRE12,
Just a Roman Catholic thing I think. Doubt that many Americans know about it. Could be wrong. No doubt I will be corrected.
CQN relying on EBT ‘ Thommo’ , for a reference for Lewis Morgan? Lazy Journalism?
Ta for Skybet tip Bhoys.
CELTICROLLERCOASTER,
Thanks. I went to Jersey about 10 years ago and am sure Paddy Gallagher gave me some tips then. But my memory of hostelries is failing as I approach 70.
