Aberdeen take it up a notch at Celtic Park

205

For so many years, games at Celtic Park have resembled a siege against a nine man visiting defence.  Not so this season.  Hibs and (especially) Falkirk made a go of it in the League Cup.  Hearts competed and made us sweat until very late.  The wins against Newco and Slovan Bratislava were quite joyful, but Aberdeen took it up a notch yesterday.

Celtic played well enough to win the game and after dazzling first half performances from Arne Engels, Kyogo and Reo Hatate, looked to be out of sight.  When you face an onslaught like Aberdeen did during the closing 20 minutes of that period, all you can do it hang in until you find a way out of it, which they managed to do.

The second half was a procession of Celtic mistakes which offered the visitors hope.  Maeda, Valle, Schmeichel, Trusty and McGregor were all culpable.  It looked like the team emerged from the dressing room at halftime with a ‘job done’ mindset.  I am sure this will be disputed, but there was definitely something amiss.  Aberdeen’s robust approach to fouling in the middle of the park also broke our tempo.

By the time Aberdeen ‘scored’ what looked like a goal to put them in the lead, we all knew that the faux words we exchanged last week about this being a match between the title contenders were true.  Over the summer months, Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin has achieved a remarkable feat.  The stats say they only had 24% possession, but if Celtic scored what would have been a deserved late winner, it would have been harsh on the visitors.

We’ll talk about what happened to change a game from a comfortable looking win into a knife-edge encounter tomorrow.  Hint: Thelin watched us in Dortmund and found a vulnerability.

    HS;

    Around primary 3 here ;))”

    Our class is over-crowded.

  2. Killie save their first home win of the season for Rangers.

A superb result on a day they didn’t even need to be at their best.

    😂😂😂😂👍💩

  3. The vulnerability is the absence of a defensive mid.

Anyway, it was far from a disaster after today’s result.

At this point, a thinking man would want the rangers to beat Aberdeen at Pittodrie.

  4. Souttar, star of the show for Scotland, credited by the BBC for keeping Portugal’s front 3 in check, shown up for the limited CB he is by Watkins.

    Lol

    QB

  5. And more quality output from BBC Scotland…

According to our mates at Opta, Rangers have now failed to score in three of their eight games.

Surely you wouldn’t need Opta to see 3 of 8 league games with the score line of Rangers 0

    😳🤷🏼‍♂️💩😂

  6. Well that result has lifted our spirits. Took my youngest to the game yesterday & he was totally deflated afterwards.

When I read out the FT from here he nearly lifted the roof off. And I can remember when he used to scowl at me for shouting at the telly.

Can somebody point me to the rule in the IFAB Laws of the Game whereby if the ball plays off another part of the body before a handball offence it is not a handball offence.

In last week’s VAR review for October, Collum looked at the red card shown to Motherwell’s Dan Casey who dived and saved a close-range shot on the line, resulting in a penalty to St Mirren.

Collum was asked about the ball deflecting off Casey’s knee onto his hand. Collum said because the ball was going into the goal, the fact that it deflected onto his hand was irrelevant and a penalty was the correct decision. Also, Casey was red-carded for preventing a certain goal.

So really, according to Collum’s own words, Celtic should have been awarded a penalty.

  8. I woke with 10 mins to go at Rugby Park, put the game on my phone in time for the Killy goal.

I was ok with yesterday’s result but now feel much more ok. Not aligned with An Dun’s point – I really want Rangers to lose at Pittodrie and feel we will be too strong over the season.

Enjoyed the read back and the half time hun poster – about 20 years too late…

  9. Can anyone post some of the comments from their sites please?

Always makes a good day even better reading that. 😂😂😂

  10. A blind man would notice that Celtic have 3 defenders who can’t kick the ball with their right feet.

Also, Khun wet awol and Maeda was shocking.

  11. Just think, if Dundee Utd had’ve held on to beat Hibs yesterday, they Huns would be sitting 4th today.

    😳😂😂😂

Even poor Aipple is lost for words after that result! 😳😂😂😂👏👏👏👍

  13. I hope someone’s told The Dons’ new manager that, the leniency shown towards his “robust” football against us, won’t go unpunished when they face Sevco.

“The club is rotten from top to bottom. It needs a complete revolution in every way, by people who actually know what they’re doing.”

“Our club is a mess on and off the pitch.”

    “PLG mark 2”

“As worse a Rangers team as I have witnessed…maybe THE worst Team.”

“We are a mid table SPL team there is no way we are vying for trophies this season,I wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t get second this season,Teams with a wage bill a fraction of ours playing better football than us.”

  15. “I genuinely think they could win the next 10 titles and we wouldn’t put up any fight at all.”

Despite the turgid fayre on offer, the Killie LB – Corrie Ndaba – is a powerful, tall Irish player with a decent touch and forward instinct.

Hopefully Tisdale will help recruit better defenders. Not seen enough of Trusty yer, but yesterday he was very guilty of underhitting his passes to Johnston (always wanted to shift the ball to his left foot). Not seen enough of Valle either and initially yesterday he looked pretty good but ended up with a few bad errors. Hopefully he’ll get better. Scales played well yesterday, mostly, but for me we only have two defenders that I’m happy with, Johnston and CCV.

  17. “It’s actually got to the stage I can’t be bothered watching us now,we boring, slow have no pattern,we can’t even say we have been unlucky.”

“WTF is Clement waffling on about? “

  18. Just read that the Huns have scored one goal away from home so far this season. Bottom of that league.

    Thems media a delightful read,

    😂😂😂

    Cheers pal!

  20. I think Trusty will be a good CB for us but he is handling playing on his weaker side the same way Starfelt did in the early days. (When we couldn’t find a left sided CB!).

I hope he learns how to adapt because Scales won’t be dropped for him on current showings.

  21. From FF, is this accurate..

Goals away from home this season:

    Celtic 13

    Aberdeen 7

    Dundee Utd 6

    Motherwell 6

    St Johnstone

    Kilmarnock 5

    Dundee 5

    Hearts

    St Mirren 4

    Hibs 3

    Ross County 1

    Rangers 1

  22. Ah , I don’t feel too bad now after yesterday’s match.

Also the Killie fans were apparently singing there’s only one team in Glasgow today.!!

Shortie have switched to talking about Aberdeen’s 2-2 victory yesterday.

  24. lets all do the huddle on

i think P67 dived in too early with his surprising sunday ‘new article’.

he should have waited until after the hun game.

we need another new article now with some heavy gloating in it.

his sunday roast will need to wait.
