Fair play. If you can stomach it under any circumstances.

I can’t accept what we are becoming.

  2. Interesting to see whats what on here this morning, haven’t been on here in ages (apart from the odd lurk) and i know why.

    TD completely agree

What is the complaint? league and cup double and people want everyone sacked, we have craved competition for years outside of Rangers, now they are gone we have it, why are so many complaining?

we are still top, still in control, we will win the league and i believe the cup. Ross county was a disappointment but they were the better team, it happens.

for those who want Ronny etc sacked, when the new manager comes in, why do you think it will be so much better? the new manager would have to work within the same constraints as Ronny as managers before him do you honestly think they would be miles better than him and steam rolling every team they meet?

I would hate to play with shitebags.

I agree. We were defeated. Time for a cold shower. I would have much preferred, having had the defeat, to have been gubbed: six nil or so.

If that would have been the case, we would have been shot of Deila and Collins by now.

The problem is, our competition comprises of Provincial Backwater Clubs: whilst we have infinitely superior resources than all of our competition combined!

that kevjungle fella sounds a pleasant chap, i wonder if he was bullied at nursery.

yes, having the competition at the top of the league is great, but it would be better if it was more to do with other teams improving to get closer to us, rather than us sinking to their level

but i guess it makes the rest of the season more exciting, in an ‘every point is a prisoner’ type of way

but won’t help us 1 jot in Europe (what is a ‘jot’ anyway? – Ed)

something needs to change somewhere along the line

If Peter Lawell pays me £500,000 I will tell him all the answers to our problems, he can get my email address from P67 ;-)

We have competition because we have steadily got worse, season after season. It’s not that the other sides have got better.

I don’t know any Celtic fan who craved that.

How long do you watch unremitting pish before you say “this is unremitting pish and someone must act to end it”? Never seems to be the answer if many. In the name of loyalty. Manna from heaven for Lawwell the self enriching mediocrity.

  9. HT

A rare moment of balance this morning on CQN.

That 2nd goal and the 2nd half capitulation that followed, coming after 30 very good minutes of play, reflects the problem we showed in the Fenerbache and Ajax games and Malmo at home. We are much less secure in defence this season than we were last season domestically.

  10. The biggest mistake our manager made last night was dropping Efe & It’s not the first time he’s thrown a player under the bus. A manager should defend his players to the hilt in public, Ronny doesn’t seem to do this. Ever since he allowed Derk Bo to be branded a cheat, he’s allowed himself to be influenced by the media, none more so than their relentless campaign against Efe. Yes Ambrose has made mistakes but it doesn’t help when your manager compounds the narrative of blame & then drops the player. It’s not good management to scapegoat & single out one player for the collective mistakes v Ross County. Especially when the Aberdeen game was always going to be a physical one & even more so when you saw the state of their pitch. It wasn’t a night for a new central defensive partnership or for three lightweights in midfield. No it was a night for players who have been over the course before & knew what to expect. We may have still got beaten but at least we would have lost the right way.

I’m not saying the result hinged on not selecting Ambrose but I like to see our managers protecting players. I don’t see RD doing this often enough & this for me is this biggest issue I have with Ronny.

  11. Fixtures

To follow on from an earlier point – how many BIG pressure games has Ronny won (even over 2 legs) ? – cant think of many – yeah we’ve put a few spl teams to the sword a few times but BIG games…? Problem is if we look at the known fixtures between now and April sure they are now all big must win games but are they truly BIG (sure if Ronny loses a few off them and the dons dont but individiually……). So how much opportunity does that give Ronny to restore faith prior to the qualifiers…. and if its a repeat performance in those is it sacking time then… and given the lack (maybe 2-3) of TRUE BIG games between now and then is that a situation we even want to entertain…..

    Sackings/Timing

Could Ronny complain if he was sacked by the end of the month? Probably not but as someone else sortoff said is it not a wee bit pointless sacking a manager a week after the transfer window shuts – with the Euro’s in the summer what preparation time would any new signings of his have (ok he’d have more time to assess the current squad/ try to sort out the defending/set pieces/penalty taking/style of play/plan B’s) which is important but this is then back to the old problem that probably 2/3rds of our success barameter for the season falls too half a dozen qualifier games that have come and gone usually mostly before the season has really got underway or the players are properly fit/organised, unless our league format/league changes nothing we do will change that

    Lessons Learnt/Improvement

Heres the real problem even I think Ronnie is very slow to learn lessons against teams who frankly we shouldnt be learning lessons from – we were used to sporadically punching above our weight/having a go, now we are target – defending in general, set pieces, style of play/plan b – now thanks to efe I think ronnie is starting to learn and work on those (and yes injuries and budget have played a part) but he should have done that a year ago

    Signings

Again a real question, on the other link it said ronnie has now signed about 22/23 players, now I dont know how many of those were proper proper first choices/best choice available at the budget/wet useless sticky plasters but only what 4-5 either have worked out or may yet work out – most have been temporary rancid sticky plasters…..

Personally I’m happy banging in a lot more goals at the expense of conceding more. And if Aberdeen improve their points tally to make the competition more exciting, good on them.

BTW. Two weeks later we had won our games in hand and were on 57 points after 24 games. So, we’re 2 points down on last season. Nothing scary about that.

  20. ....PFayr supports WeeOscar on

the set up of our team last night was all wrong

we were 6 points clear ..no need to win ..a draw would have been a decent result

    a dreadful pitch

    yet

we set up our usual inflexible system

    one up front ..fair enough

three behind..GMS/Armstrong &McGregor…not a tackle between them..sand dancers ..who will not help in any fashion defensively

two midfield ..Bitton in wretched form of late and Brown ..who is nowhere near match fit

therefore leaving the midfield to be shored up by a half fit Brown affording little or no cover to an exposed CB pairing neither of whom are match fit and have played around 60 mins together

    footballing madness

Deila is an idealist …last night called for pragmatism …quite how he couldn’t see that is beyond me

the set up was appalling last night ..the substitutions poor ..the result as expected

add the gutless, heartless and passionless second half display and we have problems

we now have a further problem as Lustig went off injured ..we have no cover ..Janko is long term injured and Fisher is out on loan …step forward Efe for another calamitous return …in the transfer window we did nothing to address this potential issue…instead we continued our collection of wingers

    what a mess

we must act now or the unthinkable embarrassment may just become reality

  21. Bhoys, calm heads are required.

    Some logical thinking needed.

Ronnie is working under intolerable pressure.

We profess not to pay any heed to SMSM.

    Are we kidding ourselves?

I see Celtic supporters screaming for his head after any defeat.

    Just like SMSM.

Have we been suckered into believing that without Sevco to challenge us we should never get beat?

The goal Hayes scored was immense.

No team could have legislated for that.

Sure Ronnie has made big mistakes and appears inflexible in system and selection.

    I kinda like that.

    He believes he will succeed.

    So do I .

He needs our support not or derision.

We now have a squad that is enormous, mediocrity foisted on Ronnie by Park & Lawwell in the hope of finding a gem we can punt to the EPL.

    Here’s a novel idea Peter.

Flog the deadwood, release them if u can’t flog them and invest the wages saved on quality with a greatly reduced squad.

Or keep on bringing in projects?

    The system is flawed.

    Ronnie is the patsy.

Lawwel & co , time to change, or time to go

  22. The Battered Bunnet on

Just deleted a long and winding, some might even say prolix, post about the relative levelling of the standard of the game in Scotland. The premise is reasonable, but the post was rambling.

In essence: The standard of the top clubs has slipped (in real as well as relative terms), while that of those lower in the pecking order has increased.

The ubiquity of ‘pro-youth’ football has delivered a huge number of players into the game who, while not good enough to play at the very top level, nevertheless are well trained, well coached and technically capable footballers.

Pro youth has failed to deliver outstanding talent, but it’s delivered an enormous number of very good players, and taken together, they’re capable of being melded into a capable team by a capable coach.

Look at Ross County, ICT, St Johnstone for example. Look at Falkirk, Queen of the South, Stranraer.

Seems the “quality” approach to Scottish football over the past decade has succeeded in driving up the average standard, at the cost of elite performance.

  23. Celtic need a MURDO in the midfield.

An all action, high energy dynamo, workhorse, who’ll chip in a few Celtic-style goals and, can look after himself, win the ball……his name is…..John McGinn….a player who can, tackle without fouling something that, Broony has been trying in the Celtic 1st team for 8 years and, guess what ?….He still leans with his chin….he hisny goat it….if he has ?….Who are we fighting off to keep him ?

Fluck awe these green & white Craig Brown types of p#sh talkers….you’ve helped to empty the park with all yer delusional deflection tactics…..snobs….are killing Celtic….please stop them….please….

  25. I am not a Ronnie hater. I quite like him. He is quiet and unassuming. However he is not cut out to manage a club of the status and size of Celtic.

He is a spreadsheet coach (a limited one at that.) He does not have the tactical experience or dexterity required. He seems to be a slow learner .

Do we get rid now ?

That could be self defeating at this stage. But we must put in place plans to have another manager in by the Champions League next season. We have been abysmal in Europe under Ronnie and I cant see that improving whilst he is still manager. We have been beaten by teams with vastly inferior resources to ourselves and that was because they had coaches capable of adapting the right tactics against us and coaches who could inspire passion , a will to win and fire into the bellies of their players.

We will win the league this season. But given our fiscal superiority and size that should be as close to a given as is possible in football.

The team has downsized and regressed. This moneyball nonsense has squeezed the life out of the club and is killing the passion of the fans. Celtic fans are wonderful, truly loyal and passionate about their club.

We really do deserve better than this consistent under achievement.

Ronnie has regressed too in my opinion.

Actually, perhaps he never had the nous in the first place.

How long must our patience and loyalty be tested??

  26. CultsBhoy can not relate to Celtic Board ambitions on or off the park on

To all the Board lovers ..

If we lose the league is that still part of a big plan?

  27. As said before, the board need to honestly answer two questions.

Have we improved as a team from last year?

Will this squad and management team enhance our chances of qualifying for CL?

If they believe the answers are yes and yes, carry on as we are.

If they believe the answers are no and no, decide if it’s time to change and act now.

If they believe it’s a combination of yes and no, i don’t think that’s possible so would be interesting how they played out that scenario.

If PL is willing to back Ronny until the end of the season, then PL must resign if we fail to win the league.
