Aberdeen when they are looking ominously at Glass

227

When second placed score five against third the same day first score four at the team in fourth place, you can expect the top two to be involved in few shocks.  I expect Celtic and Newco to vacuum up points at home without trouble and do nearly as well on the road.  It is places like Aberdeen and Livingston that concern me most.

That being the case, it should be a perfect time for Celtic to visit Pittodrie, while we are scoring goals for fun and Aberdeen fans are looking ominously in the direction of Stephen Glass.  After winning four out of five, tomorrow’s hosts have collected just two points from the last four games, losing to St Mirren and Livi, although taking an important point from Newco.

It would be good to get this game won, done and out of the road, reduce the remaining away fixture count to five.

  1. Pebble in the pond time …

EP vs BJ — who is the bigger erse / walloper / trouser snake?

My view is that BJ is worse than EP.

EP was not a real racist — he was just a chancer / hypocrite / snider who saw racism with a veneer of classics as a way of bigging up his political profile when E(Ted)H was in charge of the Tories.

For some reason EH and EP were not buddies.

Not sure if this was a case of who was the biggest / most eligible confirmed bachelor in the Young Tories 1940 to 1950 meant that they would become political rivals in later life.

EH was a pantomime act of choral singing and sailing — all those fit young men in a cramped sailing yacht / oh matron — while EP could see the act for what it was.

They both were trade — at least in part — but at least he could speak Greek.

No matter — EP surfed the 1960’s popular will against Commonwealth immigration to his own benefit.

BJ surfed the 2010’s popular will against the EU / East European immigration for his own benefit.

Difference is that the Tories bought into BJ big style when the time came while in the 60’s enough had scruples relating to post colonial angst to keep EP out in the cold.

Anyway EP was not a racist — he was just a political chancer.

However I still have no time for RS — the Bantustan episode still leaves a sour taste.

The only way to be absolutely certain that no spectator can ever come to harm at CP is to play all games behind closed doors.

And, lets be honest here, anyone who disagrees is, frankly, no better than a mass murderer.

Any chance you could use joined up writing in your rants?

Very difficult to work out what you are trying to say.

Not even close to frontier gibberish.

Word salad would be an improvement.

No rant at all Big Jim. Evidence perhaps that the Law Society sees, in some cases at least, as a law unto itself. As regards Frank Mulholland hasn’t he been mentioned in recent legal shenanigans which have cost the public purse untold millions and counting? Rhetorical question!

nb On another legal question Big Jim, a point of order if you like, (as opposed to a pint on order ma Lord), it was at West Ham when Big John put the boot into wee Eyal not at Arsenal. Wouldn’t want you getting sued by the Big Man for defamation of character or some such like!

The difference between Powell and Heath is that Powell looked to history and Heath looked to the future.

And no matter what you might think of their politics, they, and other political figures of that generation, tower above the present generation.

  6. A yellow weather warning for snow has been issued for many areas of Scotland.

The Met Office warning comes into force at 4pm this afternoon and is to remain in place until 11am tomorrow morning.

Forecasters expect wintry showers to fall to low levels this evening with heavier showers in areas above 200m.

The caution stretches from northern Scotland to the central belt with Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow amongst the areas likely to see flurries of the white stuff.

The weather is set to create some difficult travel conditions with disruption likely across the areas impacted.

Up to 10cm – or four inches – of snow is expected on higher grounds with slushy falls and icy surfaces expected throughout on lower levels, according to the Met Office.

    ……………

I wonder if our game Tonight is in danger IF the Snow arrives up North ?

Politics 50 years ago was a much more serious business — no issue from me on that.

However to me EP is just the same type of political chancer that BJ is.

BJ has issues regarding how he deals with reality — overgrown toddler syndrome — while EP had a more complete understanding of the world around him and yet still ploughed the then populist race furrow to get himself a profile.

EH was another type of political chancer — his leadership was the Tory anti grouse moor response to HMcM and ADH.

It was all about a shiny new politics — radical not progressive — of think tanks / project management / away days / rampant middle class rationalism / emotionless politics.

However when needed he reverted all to quickly to type — 1970 UU agreement / Support in Westminster for local control of the army in the 6 counties.

And we know how that turned out — Short Strand et al.

EH was no different to MT regarding his original political direction of travel.

Just a case that he had memories of active service in WW2 while she was a draft dodger hiding in Oxford.

The carnage in NI plus the unemployment of 1971 brought on Sunningdale and the inflationary Barber Boom which the KJ groupies couldn’t stomach and brought about his split with MT.

Was MT the revenge of the grouse moor or revenge of the grocers?

    —–

Taking things to extremes, yes. The same then could be said about pubs/clubs and any other venue where people gather.

The law these days requires certain & unequivical adherence to appropriate and contextual safety requirements in public places. I know that some feel Health & Safety has ‘gone over the top’ – I do myself sometimes. However the law is the law, and Celtic are bound – the cost of flouting it could be very costly and far-reaching.

On the Rod Stewart thing, I assure I’m not being wilfully, or, mischievously ignorant. I have genuinely looked (Rod Stewart + Enoch Powel) and can find nothing on the topic. I did know about Eric Clapton, having read about it in Philip Norman’s excellent biography ‘Slowhand, The Life and Music of Eric Clapton(recommended), where EC expresses real remorse. If you can point the RS thing out, I will, as I said, apologise and beg your forgiveness – perhaps that forgiveness may also be extended to Rod, if he has transgressed and now apologised.

I’m sure, like the vast majority of us, he has grown up and become different person in many ways, like EC. I respect your viewpoint on this matter, as I do others, on different matters – agreement not a necessity.

    PITTODRIE ?

I remember the Boxing Day Game against Aberdeen up at Pittodrie I I cant remember the Year…was it 1996 ? …which was the night of Di Canios GOLDEN BOOTS and a game that we won 2-1, thanks to0 Paul;o and his AMAZING Winning Goal.

However, I managed to get a Ticket that afternoon in Bairds Bar, and I travelled up in a small white works Van. There were Two Tims in the fromt and about 5 or 6 other Tims squeezed in the back…with NO Seats, so you either sat on a wheel, or on the Floor of this Van.

After MANY Beers in Bairds that afternoon, and a wee stop at a some Pub halfway up to Aberdeen for another couple of quick Beers, I took my place once again in the back of this Van.

At LEAST TWO if not THREE of my fellow Tims in the back….were SMOKING the WACCY BACCY all the way up there. I did NOT indulge but I just stuck to my Fags

This Van had NO WINDOWS in the Back except those on the back doors and obviously they did NOT OPEN.

By the time we got to Pittodrie…I was feeling quite HIGH…BUT I was feeling even HIGHER When Paulo had scored THAT Winner…Bhoy did we celebrate THAT Goal…Celtic bodies lying everywhere in the away end.

    Pure Magic.

  19. Just caught up on the news about thon Zouma the Zoomer. Bully and bellend.

Him booting it, terrifying it and slapping it senseless out the hands of a wean – was out of order.

Used to think he was quite an admirable big pro who got a rough deal at Chelski. Erse.

He says their 2 cats are perfectly fine and healthy – should be taken off him and rehoused.

Just a dumb animal you could argue. Aye him, not the cat.

    He’ll be happy with that.

  22. Paulos GOLDEN BOOTS Night was on Boxing Day 1996…and Celtic wore the bumble Bee strip that night.

We were a goal down, and then CADETTE Scored with a great Header late in the 1st half…and then along came DI CANIO with that unforgettable piece of skill and winning goal.

A couple of days later ( I think ?), I was in Bairds bar and the staff had Radio Clyde on, as Paulos GOLDEN BOOTS had been put UP for Auction LIVE on Radio Clydes ” Cash for Kids” charity.

I cant remember the EXCAT Amount but I think someone bought those Golden Boots for around £5,000 ?

Well done Paulo…a Bhoy with a BIG Heart.

Things were different then, of course – hard to link an admiration for the harder edge of Powell with those artists’, including now Bowie, of whom I was also unaware, copying & love of black music & musicians – Motown & Chicago Blues were big & growing influences in the UK music business at that time. I suppose it was a generational thing – I’m glad they grew out of.

  26. Quick word on the Flares. I love seeing them…..

However, at the away game in Leipzeg a few years ago, I ended up on the ramps at the back of the stadium, eyes streaming, puking and sucking an inhaler after being caught up near the lads letting off Flares.

Not only was it an unpleasant experience, but a potentially dangerous one.

It is extremely rare for me to use an inhaler, once every few years, had I not carried it that evening the situation could have been much worse.

As I said, they look fantastic but we can’t have everything we want in life.

Sometimes the health /safety of others or indeed requests from or Club or the Law, must take precedence over our visual enjoyment.

I ain’t getting into an argument and I ain’t condemning anybody, simply offering my experience and my opinion on the subject.

Now , lets put the Dons to the sword.

Always weary of them, but, we are playing our best football in years and I reckon 3 or 4 nil to the good ghuys.
