Abject failure of leadership

1038

After they hatched their plan to blackmail Scottish Football League clubs into voting Newco into the First Division, Stewart Regan, Neil Doncaster and David Longmuir might have paused to wonder what reaction they would receive.

You better believe they didn’t anticipate the reaction today from Clyde and Raith Rovers.  Rovers chairman, Turnbull Hutton, told BBC Scotland’s Jim Spence, “If we are at the stage of bending rules and accommodating, threatening and blackmailing, we want to give it up.”

“Bending rules… threatening… blackmailing…we want to give it up”.

Hutton went on to suggest heads should roll at the SFL, SFA and SPL.  He’s the first from within the football establishment to call for sackings but he’ll not be the last.

An extensive statement by Clyde FC concluded, “The papers include a proposal to allow a Newco to enter the 1st Division. This is contrary to the rules of the SFL and nothing within the papers justifies this proposal.”

Regan, Doncaster and Longmuir will now be contemplating that their bully-boy tactics will fail. SLF clubs will vote against their recommendations and SPL clubs will not stop promotion from the lower leagues based on merit.  It looks like abject failure of leadership.

    Swanseabhoy ….

Right, let’s have a wee bit of fun……..by suggesting GB BANNER For the first game of the season

    My suggestion

HELLO, HELLO….IS THERE ANYBODY THERE ?

I really hope you’re right Paul, and the reaction to the SFA/SFL/SPL extortion letter is a tidal wave of “no confidence” in the parcel of rogues at the top of all three organizations.

  3. if Scottish football id to loose £16m

how does that equate to how much Rankers stole from the tax payer last year alone….?

never mind the EBTs ; stolen titles and cups…

how much did that cost Scottish football?

    or are they scottish football….

Posted re GB on last article just as Paul67 posted a new one.

As for your last point. I will admit to being 100% surprised that you would not be aware of BJmac’s battle with alcohol for someone as involved in CQN as you are. However, now that you have stated your position I do apologise for raising it and accept that it was a misplaced and unfortunate analogy.

close but no cigar, it really seems that no one likes them, but now they care.

refreshing to see other clubs and there supporters coming out against the team that was, not just us, i’m away to sun maself, 88degress and rising and it is just 12.

… Nice to see the Stiff Little Fingers will be getting a vote too though… or was that a typo?

I listened to BBC sportsound today and the comment made by Turnbull Hutton were simply astounding. For a chairman of any club within the SFL to say the things he said was truely remarkable. I think we can safely say that in time we will have some resignations along with an overhaul of the structure of the game in Scotland. Last weeks document that was issued to all SFL clubs has backfired spectaculary and will in course lead to those responsible for it’s content being held to account.

    Paul,

Have you heard anything about plans to ignore the Ebt stuff and ditch the dual contracts investigation if the proposals go ahead? Also heard that sevco will be allowed to keep all titles and history will be intact but they will only go down one division.

Any truth as far as you know?

When the aforementioned heads are seen floating down the river along with the flotsam and jetsam from Ibrox Park would it be premature to aver that Scottish football’s era of ‘what school school did you go to’ administration has come to a joyful end.

If so, roll on the day …

Paul 67- The people in charge of our game have played their last card. How can they possibly sit in judgement of others now? Scottish football is now a totally rudderless ship, time for UEFA to step in and put these clowns on gardening leave, pending their removal. Not fit for purpose.

Abject failure right enough Paul, but I bet even you have been gobsmacked by the reaction of other clubs. Integrity indeed.

  13. Turnbull Hutton formerly a senior executive with Diageo (one of their top 3 senior people in Scotland)

David Longmuir also formerly of Diageo, maybes a kinda mid-level manager.

In that former life,Longmuir would be looking at a P45 for the drivel he is now associated with.

Turnbull Hutton might not know the words to BOTOB but he has the reputation of being a heavy hitting, straight shooter (as his interview shows)

  16. Afternoon all

Just in from work. My nephew Vincent sent me a text of what Rovers chairman had to say. Then I read Paul’s article.

This is an utterly disgraceful state of affairs- Doncaster. Regan and Ogilvie should have gone weeks ago but Longmuir ( an ex Roller?) who you would have thought he would be looking after his League’s clubs

Truly shameful. And all for a club which in a previous life cheated as a matter of course and which in its current guise seems unlikely to be able to able to field a team in which ever league they are foisted.

    SFA…..failed

    SPL…..failed

    SFL……failed

ogilvie ,doncaster, regan and longmuir have tried to bend and break every rule to allow a failed club to break even more rules .when they should have been upholding the ones already in place.

hope they have the backbone to resign before they are sacked

    Encouraging news today.Good stuff.

The majority of fans / board members / chairmen of lower league clubs seem

to have a better grasp of the rules than the gang of 3 guided by Ogilvie.

    Shame on them. Resignations ? ? ?

  21. The first GB banner should thank the other clubs for standing up to the bullies, that would be a nice touch.

We have one chance of the Rangers liquidation and the formation of Newco. working out for the benefit of all of Scottish football and that chance is if all the clubs stick together and address the problem of the incompetent football authorities. However,if many of the smaller clubs accept the financial bribes being offerred by the football authorities it will be the end of Scottish football as we know it.H.H.

  23. Turnbull Hutton should be replacing Doncaster. For too long we’ve put up with corruption, nepotism and favouritism in this wee league we call home. Out with the old, in with the new
