Abject failure of leadership

1038

After they hatched their plan to blackmail Scottish Football League clubs into voting Newco into the First Division, Stewart Regan, Neil Doncaster and David Longmuir might have paused to wonder what reaction they would receive.

You better believe they didn’t anticipate the reaction today from Clyde and Raith Rovers.  Rovers chairman, Turnbull Hutton, told BBC Scotland’s Jim Spence, “If we are at the stage of bending rules and accommodating, threatening and blackmailing, we want to give it up.”

“Bending rules… threatening… blackmailing…we want to give it up”.

Hutton went on to suggest heads should roll at the SFL, SFA and SPL.  He’s the first from within the football establishment to call for sackings but he’ll not be the last.

An extensive statement by Clyde FC concluded, “The papers include a proposal to allow a Newco to enter the 1st Division. This is contrary to the rules of the SFL and nothing within the papers justifies this proposal.”

Regan, Doncaster and Longmuir will now be contemplating that their bully-boy tactics will fail. SLF clubs will vote against their recommendations and SPL clubs will not stop promotion from the lower leagues based on merit.  It looks like abject failure of leadership.

The add on isn’t too much for ten months, not sure exactly for four its about £20 odd . Ten months will be a bit more, but not a rip off.

This is worse than watching Celtic. Who has ever seen a ball come out a pocket ONCE before? Don’t buy Adidas. They can’t make shoes that grip or pockets that can retain balls. Buy Nike, wonderful sponsors of Celtic.

You have never clearly articulated what realistic action the board should take, or what action they shouldn’t take, which would result in you buying a ST. Your principles don’t seem to be consistent, as one milestone is reached another “principle” pops up. Will there ever be any pleasing you? I would suggest not.

You would rather pay your disposable income to tennents and rupert Murdoch, than on the team you “support”, some principles those.

I assume you will stop watching Sky now as well.

You wax on about principles which I suggest are not consistent and you change and only use when it suits.

Anyway, I wish you well. I don’t believe any Celtic board will ever match your ambiguous requirements, so unlikely we’ll ever meet at a game, however if you do happen to go I would be delighted to meet you.

  10. Interesting comments attributed earlier to Roy Hodgson on Celtic having a bloated squad size and suggesting we could/should get by with 25 or 26 senior players.

I then went to our official site which shows a list of 28 senior players (including rarely used players like Blackman, Ibrahim, the 2 Twardziks, Watt and Rasmussen) plus 6 loanees (only 1 of whom, Darryl Murphy, is a senior pro; all the rest being u-21s apart from Josh Thompson).

If you consider that Murphy, Rasmussen and Thompson are likely to be sold/ freed soon, maybe even Paddy too, then we would have reduced to 31, which includes names like Slane, Spence, P. Twardzik, Toshney and Keatings, who are not exactly first team pros. Maybe our squad is not so bloated after all.

The current West Brom squad, Roy’s old team has registered 23 in their PL squad list, the maximum number as set by the PL for all PL clubs is 25, but they also list 16 under 21 players with first team squad numbers so their overall squad size is 39, probably rising to 41 if they add 2 more signings to their senior list.

Therefore, I think Roy might have been comparing apples and giraffes again, when he talked about our squad.
