Abject failure of leadership

1038

After they hatched their plan to blackmail Scottish Football League clubs into voting Newco into the First Division, Stewart Regan, Neil Doncaster and David Longmuir might have paused to wonder what reaction they would receive.

You better believe they didn’t anticipate the reaction today from Clyde and Raith Rovers.  Rovers chairman, Turnbull Hutton, told BBC Scotland’s Jim Spence, “If we are at the stage of bending rules and accommodating, threatening and blackmailing, we want to give it up.”

“Bending rules… threatening… blackmailing…we want to give it up”.

Hutton went on to suggest heads should roll at the SFL, SFA and SPL.  He’s the first from within the football establishment to call for sackings but he’ll not be the last.

An extensive statement by Clyde FC concluded, “The papers include a proposal to allow a Newco to enter the 1st Division. This is contrary to the rules of the SFL and nothing within the papers justifies this proposal.”

Regan, Doncaster and Longmuir will now be contemplating that their bully-boy tactics will fail. SLF clubs will vote against their recommendations and SPL clubs will not stop promotion from the lower leagues based on merit.  It looks like abject failure of leadership.

Henry, my thoughts exactly. He knew he had to move the pieces one by one….but now he seems to be playing things exactly as his predecessor did.

Beyond all of the currently obvious issues, Scottish football is fundamentally, structurally flawed.

Two HUGE teams (or as of now, one) playing against small town teams. You would never design a competition this way. What needs to happen is a bosman for clubs situation.

Big teams from small countries should – and some day will – have the right to form associations and leagues with other similarly situated clubs. Celtic playing Benfica, Porto, Ajax, Feyenoord etc, would be a true competition.

By the same token (and at a very different level) a Scottish league without either Celtic or sevco, could be a really interesting and competitive competition.

Until we get to that point, we will be stuck with small town teams debating how to scrounge more of the Big team’s money.

Neither competition nor business was ever intended to be thus. I am hopeful that this current mess can help break this flawed model.

I don’t think the SFL can be accused of failure yet …?

so longmuir will not have a problem with his proposal to the sfl clubs?

more than 6 clubs in sfl are saying no….with only 8 reqiuired for veto

if in any doubt read the clyde fc chairman statment issued today.

the vote has not eben taken place and spl and sfl clubs are in revolt.

all the while RCO and the sfa avoid applying the rules and sanctions against RFC(IL)

  8. Can anyone clarify this for me please.

Regarding these revelations by Alex Thomson that his mole at SFA has admitted Rangers should not have been playing football last season due to not meeting financial criteria.

If this is proved. Then heads will surely role at SFA/SPL. Celtic would surely be able to sue SFA/SPL for loss of earnings from non participation in Champs league and also consequential loss (gate receipts and sponsorship spin offs etc).

I am I missing something or will this not be potentially be explosive?

Absolutely brilliant summary of the corruption and conflicts of interest within the governing bodies of Scottish football.

The statement from Clyde FC, Turnbull Hutton’s contribution and others in the last few days make it clear that there are people within the game who will not stand for the type of conspiracy being hatched by the failed leadership in Scotland.

TBB’s summary should be publicised to a wider audience and there should be an active campaign to remove the conspirators(and those who have colluded) from office.

    TBB………………..Congratulations and thank you.

I feel the SFL haven’t done anything wrong at this stage…..with SFA / SPL having realised that the SPL CLUBS are not going to be bullied, they are now trying it on with the SFL CLUBS, who are telling them where to go with their bullying etc……..the SPL Board were in collusion with SFA…..I don’t think the SFL board were similarly compromised…??

When the level of corruption at Rangers(In administration) is written out like that it is difficult to comprehend just how rotten that club was.

When it is laid bare, they simply should never be allowed to play anywhere at any level, ever.

It is indeed fitting that the first game of the new season pits Celtic against Aberdeen.

This is the only fixture in Scottish League history to have been played every season without exception. Beginning in 1904 when Aberdeen made it into the top league.

Although there is now another team in the SPL who have never been relegated from the top division in their history. Ross County.

  23. There’s something very noble to come out of this mess that restores ur faith in human nature. The fans are the ones whose morals are winning the day. Greed is no longer good, greed is bad very bad. Yes clubs will be effected financially by this especially those clubs whose players contracts over a number of years have to be honoured. But once these bullies have been defeated I won’t be in the least surprised if season ticket sales and gate receipts significantly increase for all clubs affected. Decency has already won the initial SPL battle and it will win the war.

Have to agree with Canamalar with regards CQN posters commenting on stuff that they haven’t actually read.

Or running away with the false allegations from a fellow CQNer whom has arrived at the ridiculously false assumption and then smears you with it.

Often these false conclusions, assumptions, smears are brought about by two things. Stupidity and an emotional insecurity. Could also be a dire need for friendship.

The more I come on this site or read the news the more I think that the Mums and Dads of the SFA, SPL and SFL are away on Spring Break and Doncaster and Regan etc are the fools trying out dad’s chair and seeing what running a business is like.
