The problem is, the second-half against Milan in the first match was supposed to be “the start” just like the first half against Lille.
Then the cup game against Aberdeen was a “start” as was Motherwell away.
The effort was there tonight and it wasn’t among the worst this season. But when we “only” lose 4-2 against a much-weakened side in the Europa League, I can’t get excited.
We were decent going forward tonight but the same old failings were there tonight and there’s no sign of that improving.

If I’m honest I really can’t remember Celtic being able to defend competently in Europe but then I’m only 53.
Our defence has no actual defenders in it.
For me, nothing has changed, sadly nothing will change I think we need to hope we outscore SPFL opposition till January and even then I wouldn’t trust our recruitment.
I didn’t think we played as bad as we have but we’re still in need of a change
Laxalt cant get a game with Milan,there must be dozens of CBs in that league in the same boat,that have been brought up to defend properly

Jeremy Frimpong does not have one assist this season.
He is a waste of a shirt .
He’s not up to the physicality of top level fitba .
Can’t pick a final ball and can’t defend .
He flatters to deceive in every match .

the main and biggest problem we have is that we have a group of midfielders and wing backs trying to play as defenders , a recipe for disaster and it shows, the players we are selecting to play in defence have no positional sense or tackling ability , don’t know how to track forwards or block runs , they are midfield players , waken up for goodness sake Lenny.

Agree, we need to sack the whole defence (Laxalt excepted)
We need Big Fraser and 2 x CH in January.
Maybe Taylor needs to stick an o at the end of his name.
Whike we acknowledge a defeat is never acceptable; This game was not a shocker, and we could have won it. No exaggeration, we could have been 4 up prior to them scoring.

The game at the weekend is far more important, yet we held back on subsitutions for far too long.
I would love to see Soro get game time, he looks the business.
Also like to see either Ajer or Bitton in midfield, but this is only papering over the cracks.
Seemingly we have the most amount of goals scored against us in the whole Europa League. Dundalk are doing better.
There are feckin village teams in Eastern Europe where the bus comes every second day, that are doing better than us.
Failure to break down teams in Scotland is costing us the Ten.
Slow build up, bad defending, no settled format three backs or four, and, I believe a lack of fitness and aggression. Bad subsitutions, too late in the games.
These problems are laid squarely at the managers door.
He has failed to solve them.

This is a club that has had no one to financially compete with us for ten years.
We lost two goalkeepers through stinginess.
The backbone of any team is the goalkeeper. We lost leagues in 90’s because we hadn’t a top class keeper. Was the savings worth it now ?

Neil Lennon can credibly say we played well for chunks of that game
Positives
– more energy
– more purpose
– more chances
Negatives
– transition to defence still slow
– very weak in contact (not good for SPFL)
– slow reaction to mid-game tactical changes. Exact same as Sparta at home – our promising first 15 minutes with joy down the right nullified easily by opposition coach simply pushing more players left
– goalkeeper has no presence and rarely seems to synch with defence. Looks lost. Big worry.
I suspect this weekend’s game will be telling.

Because Laxalt has no end product doesn’t make Taylor the messiah. He’s also not the answer but just another symptom of our dysfunctional football club.

Lots of positives tonight, We look very good going forward and created numerous chances, We scored two excellent goals and really should have equalised in the second half.
Powder puff defending with some lovely finishing takes the feel good factor away

Add to that- Laxalt was playing during the poorer part of our run
We cannot convince anyone by imagining that absent players would have done better. We can only judge them on what they have done while playing for us
This far, Laxalt is a huge improvement on Taylor (and Boli)

don’t agree, proper defenders have a different mind set from midfielders when in the penalty box than the centre circle re heading the ball , tackling etc , in midfield you can get away with a lazy tackle for a free kick but in the box is either a goal or penalty.
4-2 in Milan us far from the worst result we’ve had in Europe.
Thought we played well going forward.
Our defence is abysmal – the worst now in the Europa league.
We may win on Sunday but we’ll be in trouble the first day our forwards have an off game.
We will not win the league with this defence.
If Neil was able to fix it, he would have done already.
Imo Laxalt and Taylor have both given us 100% in every game they have played.
The two of them are not part of the problem.

AC Milan spent £4.5m on Norwegian Jens Peter Hauge, who scored against us in both matches.
Looked a very good player and within our price range.
