Act before talk of shaming the club

1133

“I said to the players at half time that we were shaming the club at the moment and they had to go out and show some pride in the shirt”, the words of Neil Lennon to the BBC after the game on Saturday.

Pride in the shirt is a requirement any manager should ask of his team, and it is notable that the subsequent goal-scorers both have strong connections to the club, but it probably had little to do with the second half performance from Anthony Stokes, Charlie Mulgrew and our the impressive James Forrest.  Calls to pride are limited in what they can achieve, genuine talent is far more effective.

At the AGM on Friday and again in his post-match comments on Saturday, Neil alluded to the fragility of his own position.  Had the game finished 3-0 to Kilmarnock I think he would have walked away.  This would have been a great pity.

Neil is learning on the job. He was not gifted the benefits of experience without actually having to work through difficult times as a manager.  Before his thoughts turn to his own position, before our season is too far gone to save, he should recruit an experienced assistant.  Someone who knows the challenges of working with a disparate group of players, who can deal with the challenges of a demanding board and supporter base.

The need for a mentor was evident 18 months ago and is screamingly so now.  For the sake of Celtic, do the necessary.

    B.B.C. say:

    Scottish Premier

    Everton re-sign striker McFadden .

What`s that got to do with the S.P.L.?

  2. Just reached page 15 or thereabouts in my nightly scan, well my grand daughter and I were enjoying YouTube. I can recommend Rolf Harris and his Jake the Peg routine as an attention grabber for a 5 year old who has too much late night energy.

I was taken aback by the savage ad hominem attacks on Barcabhoy, being called a hun, because he expressed sympathy for John Greig. I spent a large part of my youth hating huns in general, and John Greig in particular. However after I matured a wee bit I saw that it did me no good. Deedle Henderson who was also mentioned is connected to my aunt and I remember him getting involved with Jinky in supporting some local village functions in support of the church and old folks charity events.

Now let’s suppose Barcabhoy is not a Celtic fan, and personally after reading his posts over a number of years I have no reason to think he’s nothing but a genuine fan, who maybe has a hair is an orifice about our board. (in other words he’s not currently a happyclapper

  3. Oops iPad and fat fingers don’t mix well.

So even if he’s not a dyed in the wool Tim, there is really no excuse for the lack of tolerance and gracelessness shown. (is gracelessness even a word? Where’s Kojo when you need a language correction?)

Personal keyboard vendettas are oh so 70s when we would fight among ourselves at a wrong refereeing decision.

I regard this blog as a cut above the rest when it comes to the exchange of views. Standards are slipping, and if they continue to do so I promise to post more raving late night ramblings more frequently.

Oh and I don’t want a mentor for Neil. He can pick up a phone anytime and speak to Martin or Lambert. I’m sure that many others from David Hay and Big Billy to Joe Jordan and Roy Aitken would be pleased to take a call from him. He can phone me most evenings, but he’ll have to get behind the grand weans in the queue.

    Good night and God bless.

The night was still, not a whisper of air crossed the street, and then the shadow of a memory made me smile. Four of the biggest, the best, the strongest and stoutest stood in the way of the smallest, the slightest, the smiling and the supreme.

Greig, Shearer, Caldow, and McKinnon against Jinky

My father and Deedle’s father worked together in the same pit and I lived for a wee while in the ‘Cruix. His father used to take us all up the park to play football.

  10. If any scouts are reading this, check out Andreas Lambertz from Fortuna Dusseldorf, in the Bundesliga 2. Currently in fantastic form, scored an excellent hat-trick last night against St. Pauli.

Haven’t got my full records with me, but Jinky was regularly in the team from 63 onwards including the Scottish cup final (he didn’t play in the replay)

I don’t have details of the Rangers team but it was regularly as follows :

Ritchie; Shearer, Caldow; Greig, McKinnon, Baxter; Henderson, McMillan, Millar, Brand & Wilson.

Morning Celts I had a pretty crap last weekend but perked up on Monday night as my faith in Celtic was restored, due to watching the under19’s. I’m really looking forward to watching these bhoys progress, I hope also that they don’t lose their drive, enthusiasm, confidence and great skills on the way.

Blowing up a storm all last night and looks like continuing today……. I need a holiday….. don’t we all :¬)

I think the Celticquicknews roving reporter who was at the game last night should put a wee piece together as a spunishment for blagging his way into the car park last night …ha ha!

The only reason Greig and McLelland have resigned from Ibrox is because they have been officially told that the club will be going into administration and that it will not be a good place for them when that happens. They have been told to head for the hills.

Since I downloaded the io5s thing, my vodafone internet connection has been lost.

This means I can’t access email when I’m away from the computer.

It’s a real pain in the neck.

    Appreciate any help.

  17. Good morning from MK where it’s chillier than of late but we’ve got clear skies.

Trawling through the papers makes depressing reading and nothing to brighten my mood other than the growing recognition that Cameron is just a lazy sound-bit politician, a dangerous combination that will be his undoing.

C’mon Celtic! give me something to cheer about.
