At the beginning of the transfer window I predicted Adam Idah would not leave Norwich City until late August, if at all. His transformational loan period at Celtic went a long way towards ensuring we won the league and Scottish Cup, but he remained backup to Kyogo and there is no immediate prospect of that changing, even if he arrives this summer.
Norwich have watched the player’s success at Celtic and have set thier price accordingly. Forget the £6m being reported this week, City’s asking price is nearly twice that figure. That’s a lot for someone who will spend much of his time on the Celtic bench.
Celtic paid £9m for Odsonne Edouard, also as a backup striker, six years ago, but that was under Peter Lawwell, who fulfilled his commitment to spend every penny that came in over any business cycle you care to mention.
Odsonne’s profile was different. A PSG youth, Celtic correctly anticipated his value would appreciate. Adam is three years older than Odsonne, when the French striker signed his permanent Celtic deal, and Adam’s tenure on the bench at Championship grounds will likely put a ceiling on where his value goes.
Adam crossed a line on Sunday and missed his club’s flight for thier preseason tour in Austria (he travelled later on his own). This move is normally terminal for your relationship with fans. The scenario occurs at Celtic more often than is reported, Celtic’s preferred reaction is to decline the move and not report “Not in the right frame of mind to play, boss” incidents, in an attempt to keep control of their options. Not every muscle strain is actually a muscle strain.
Norwich were unable to do this and Adam is now regarded as an enemy within by the support. Adam will likely get his move this month and if he comes to Celtic you and I will cheer him on. Football is a harsh business, we are all participants.

TBB- But there comes a time, when you have to move on,and give yourself time to target another player, £12 million is laughable, even for a starting point.
THE BATTERED BUNNET on 31ST JULY 2024 4:14 PM
Baws, undoubtedly. Inconsequential, not any more imo. Maybe it won’t turn into action but the mass hysteria this window has been something different and “making our point to the board” seems pretty likely
Chaps
I am glad its agreed Idah is not worth £12m. We should shift to another targets. In fact I reckon with both Oh and Vata leaving then we need 2 more strikers to back up Kyogo. Maeda has played striker for Japan but isnt an option for Celtic.
It has been reported that Aberdeen want £8 for Mioski. That to me is also too much money
However, we do need 2 strikers and we need to get on with it.
Remember Teams dont want to sell their best players without receiving a bonanza price. We are operating the same with MOR.
Who ‘ floated ‘ a £12M fee?
We are dealing with England when it comes to Idah. Over inflated prices for bang average players. There’s no way in a million years we would pay anywhere in the region of £12m for a guy who would be second striker.
This window rapidly turning into another farce.

HRVATSKI JIM @ 1:01 PM,
Well Dembele did it a Celtic and the Board invited him back for a hero’s welcome…
Idah must be very frustrated being in the situation he’s in – give the guy a break.
Hail Hail
IAdam in his brief four month spell at Celtic has won trophies and scored some cracking goals and has a wonderful chance of advancing his career at Celtic things which I doubt very much he’ll ever achieve at Norwich City, IIn addition the chance of playing in the Champions League, it doesn’t take rocket science to see why he is eager to move. Will Norwich City want to keep an unhappy ambitious player? we’ve seen it at Celtic on numerous occasions in the past. Will Celtic get the deal done ?
Liam Delap is an example of the world going mad – £20m from citeh to Ipswich
That was to Onil

I saw it on Kerrydalestreet. It seemed fairly credible, especially given what’s happened since.
*many years ago when searching for sites to read all about Celtic I was attracted to KDS, however on the one of the other sites, it could have been CQN, I was advised that it was “hoachin” with hunterlopers, now I still lurch on it but only the sevco forum, but seriously it still is but like this site here you can spot them a mile away and they were all in just after the turn of the year when the imagined they would win a treble, but one, with the typical Tim sounding monicker, was exposed only yesterday when he was asked where he was when we had won the double.
When they appear they are all about how we should be getting rid of the board, believe me they are terrified of our board especially the big guy fae the rebel county who they report tae
Oh, aye he did commiserate with the huns when they went breest up, he was only playing the game as you don’t become a billionare by being daft, he is all in with us and calls all the shots as is indicated in an interview he did when he criticised the smsm:
” I’m direct and outspoken. I’m telling it exactly as I see it, as I believe it so nobody is under any misapprehension of what my philosophy is. Secondly the Scottish Press, I won’t speak with them, and thirdly I’ve taken on the Scottish Press over some of the things that they’ve written. Fourthly what I don’t really understand is why Celtic people buy some of the papers in Scotland, especially The Record. I don’t even know whether any of the papers are left wing, right wing, blue green or anything else but I get copies of cuttings about Celtic here and The Record is to me, they print lies, and they do everything they can to create trouble and create division between Celtic and Rangers. They like to create trouble within Celtic and they like to create trouble between Celtic and Rangers. I can’t understand why anybody buys them.”
HANKRAY @ 4:45 PM,
Well from my perspective it’s not looking very promising.
We put a bid in at the beginning of the month.
The cqn lead has all the hallmarks of many a signing failure…
The John McGinn…
We wanted to sign him but Hibs wouldn’t sell him to us – springs to mind…
Adam Idah…
We wanted to sign him but Norwich wanted 12 mn…
Still the lad did do great for us and seems very keen to play his football at Celtic Park
So we’ll see
Hail Hail
The Chicago CSC bar had a suprise visitor with DD nd MRS to watch a game. Like any other punter he said he had searched for where would have the game on while he was in the city.
That story is on Celtic exchange and pictures circulated to prove it.
But we keep getting told, and have been for 20 odd years that he is not really a celtic supporter.
People talk shite on the internet, go figure.
and we still havnt been told who is unfurling the flag, i demand to be toold, and soonest.
mars bars for the board, booo booo
GENE on 31ST JULY 2024 4:52 PM
One of many pal..
There is still a full month left in the T Window so I imagine the Hoops will bide their time to get deals done for Bernardo and Idah knowing the current squad will be capable of dealing with SPFL opponents in the coming weeks.
When the two lads come on board, hopefully, they will know the process and and slot in seamlessly. Then of course there is a left back, central defender and possibly a midfielder to be sourced. Interesting times ahead.
!!BADA BING!! on 31ST JULY 2024 4:28 PM
TBB- But there comes a time, when you have to move on,and give yourself time to target another player, £12 million is laughable, even for a starting point.
*who said we’re no, around 59 year ago we were on the crest of a wave, we had at last won a trophy, “big Billy’s bumper” as the back pages of the Sundays called it, and walloped the huns 6 days later, the 2-1 scoreline flattered them in a game where a big Yogi piledriver broke the hun goalie martin’s fingers, when it was announced that we were in for man of many clubs who had literally tore the aforesaid Billy a new one in the semis.
We were NOT alone as cup and league runners up, by 1 point to both Kille and the calvinists, Dunfermline also put in a bid, ours was 22 grand while the Pars was 25, the steelmen accepted the latter but the player refused to go tae them.
At the time a young teenage me voiced my concern at the clubs direction as did my fellow young Tims in the Wimpey trailer up in the Holy Village of Duntocher, my da though a wise oul Tim, he was only 41 at the time which was ould to me, calmed me down by saying that Jock knew what he was doing and we had probably told the player tae haud his wheesht as he would be wearing the hoops sooner rather than later, eventually motherwell accepted our lower bid of 22 grand, that player was Joe McGoals
BOURNESOUPRECIPE on 31ST JULY 2024 4:31 PM
Who ‘ floated ‘ a £12M fee?
…………..
Either Paul has completely made it up or he has been told by a source. I don’t believe it’s the former, but that’s not to say it wasn’t made up by the source.
The ghost of John McGinn
“but it’s history so why waste your breath…”
6 years, a heap of transfers, a change of executive team and still it’s getting talked about like it was yesterday
Yep, it’s a bit tedious.
TT, Best centre forward I have had the pleasure of watching in the Celtic jersey bar none. As you say, Joe McGoals.
CHAIRBHOY on 31ST JULY 2024 4:13 PM
I was referring to the original article: Forget the £6m being reported this week, City’s asking price is nearly twice that.
You’re correct and I don’t think he’s worth it but that is what the selling club want for him and since he has a good few years left on his contract, Norwich are entitled to put whatever figure they want on him.
As for a made up figure, every transfer value is a made up figure qnd this is a problem we now face: everyone knows we are a cash rich club and they will automatically add another few million to the asking price when we go in for a player.
Aberdeen say they want £6.5M for their forward but if we go for him it will go to £8M.
My initial point though is why have we pursued a player that we would not pay that money for so why haven’t we moved on to another player.
Sure it is all heresy yet the article indicates Norwich want nearly £12M and we’re rumoured to have offered £4.5M. Again all rumoured but that, in my opinion is too far a gap, to negotiate on.
It now looks as if we’ve one recognised forward to start the season with. That isn’t good. Maeda could play through there and so could Johnstone but neither are what we would really expect.
Again all about opinions but I think we should have moved on by now.
CHAIRBHOY
For clarity, who is in charge of the different things at Celtic right now?
Or are you waiting for the successes and failures to restrosoectively (historically) assign responsibility
JUSTSHATERED @ 5:39 PM,
Yes, I agree and my thoughts would be we are looking at other options, we need another striker and a back up.
Unless we are keeping Mikey or looking at Meada for the role we need two strikers in.
The point is we made a bid for Idah at the beginning of July.
If he was way out of our price range &/or valuation, like you say, we should have swiftly moved on.
Hail Hail
CHAIRBHOY on 31ST JULY 2024 5:54 PM
I agree.
I guess it is another one for our transfer window post mortem that we seem to have every six months.
Don’t blame the messenger fholks…
You were the ones who believed the John McGinn nonsense then
You are the ones believing the Adam nonsense now
12 mn for Idah
Please, pass me the deludamol
Hail Hail
everyone just given up on our two young centre halfs from last season ?

” I’m not kidding when I say Celtic rangers are 50-50 going into the season”
——————————–
I am happy to accept that you are not kidding.
But I don’t have to accept that you have a realistic understanding of the odds.
There are very few of Baldemort’s fans who rate their team as highly as you do.
Of course, as ever, they could win a league this year but you’ll get a better return than evens if you have confidence in that prediction.
Stebhoy
” I’m not kidding when I say Celtic rangers are 50-50 going into the season”
——————–
or
the rangers are coming
So to be clear.
Brendan does a tv interview as does our captain.
When asked about transfers we hear both state the bleeding obvious.
We would like players in earlier.
The transfer market is full of moving parts.
It’s frustrating and folk are working hard to get in the right targets.
The same generic replies we might hear from most clubs. Even those in the very top tier.
Yet fans rush to make it seem that this justifies their previously trumpeted beliefs that the suits are out to get us. That the club is being run by charlatans and amateurs with no experience. That Brendan is saying somethings else. Etc etc.
CHAIRBHOY on 31ST JULY 2024 6:00 PM
I’m not blaming anyone, I’m just quoting the article.
Personally, I don’t think he’s worth £6M but we should have moved on long ago.
If, as rumoured, Norwich want 100% more than we’ve offered that is too much to negotiate on. If it was a difference of a £1M or less then sure negotiate but the big question is why haven’t we moved on.
That is my main issue.
We’ should tell Norwich that’s the offer take or leave and we move on, take a punt on the Bhoy from Bristol , Conway, and let Adam sort it out with Norwich…
the team who took the park in the last league game against the rangers are all still there.
THE BLOGGER FORMERLY KNOWN AS GM on 31ST JULY 2024 5:30 PM
Seems odd that suddenly it’s £12M today.
Chairbhoy
If you think Celtic should not consider their nearest domestic rival when making football decisions and football related business decisions then I worry you have no concept of how competition works in the commercial world.
Never mind the sporting world we live in in Scotland.
A successful Celtic will almost always be judged on winning the league.
To win the league Celtic will always have to be above a rangers franchise.
To be second to rangers is failure in the eyes of the majority of Celtic supporters.
Please tell me you don’t disagree with any of the last 3 statements I have made ?
JUSTSHATERED @ 6:11 PM,
Well we will have many irons in the fire and hopefully they’ll be in place the end of August.
Brendan was saying Bernardo was a done deal, also saying he’s not going to let Matt go cheap.
So we’re definitely moving forward
Personally a I think Adam’s price is difficult.
4.5 mn is probably fair but due to circumstances he may well be worth 6 mn
Not to Celtic though.
Hail Hail
The £12m price tag for Idah was a joke by someone in Celtic cyberspace who suggested that after his indiscipline, maybe Norwich will double his fee to £12m as punishment.
And it takes up 4 pages of CQN.
There is always the possibility that we haven’t moved on to looking at other strikers because we are still confident that signing Idah is a work in progress and it will happen . There is also the possibility that £12m is made up pish.
Fact is , nobody on this or any other Celtic blog knows .
