At the beginning of the transfer window I predicted Adam Idah would not leave Norwich City until late August, if at all. His transformational loan period at Celtic went a long way towards ensuring we won the league and Scottish Cup, but he remained backup to Kyogo and there is no immediate prospect of that changing, even if he arrives this summer.
Norwich have watched the player’s success at Celtic and have set thier price accordingly. Forget the £6m being reported this week, City’s asking price is nearly twice that figure. That’s a lot for someone who will spend much of his time on the Celtic bench.
Celtic paid £9m for Odsonne Edouard, also as a backup striker, six years ago, but that was under Peter Lawwell, who fulfilled his commitment to spend every penny that came in over any business cycle you care to mention.
Odsonne’s profile was different. A PSG youth, Celtic correctly anticipated his value would appreciate. Adam is three years older than Odsonne, when the French striker signed his permanent Celtic deal, and Adam’s tenure on the bench at Championship grounds will likely put a ceiling on where his value goes.
Adam crossed a line on Sunday and missed his club’s flight for thier preseason tour in Austria (he travelled later on his own). This move is normally terminal for your relationship with fans. The scenario occurs at Celtic more often than is reported, Celtic’s preferred reaction is to decline the move and not report “Not in the right frame of mind to play, boss” incidents, in an attempt to keep control of their options. Not every muscle strain is actually a muscle strain.
Norwich were unable to do this and Adam is now regarded as an enemy within by the support. Adam will likely get his move this month and if he comes to Celtic you and I will cheer him on. Football is a harsh business, we are all participants.

BURNLEY78 @ 6:20 PM,
Winning the League is paramount
But Celtic should not see that as a benchmark
A Tier 3 UEFA Club should be our benchmark
That should be good enough to dominate domestically
Now, if any Scottish Club gets to a better level than that, sure, we should look at what it takes to best them
However, our revenues and potential is way above any other Scottish team and by using Scotland as a benchmark we are aiming way below our current potential.
Hail Hail
So we wait till last week/day of the Window, CL games to play, only to be told, ‘ not fit enough ‘ ,’not had a pre season ‘, rinse and repeat.
Chairbhoy on 31st July 2024 6:30 pm
you type nonsense.
Celtic “going far” in europe or even having credible results in the chamions league will be ignored as “progress” iif we did not win the league.
you type mince.
if we lose a league cup game people want to storm the car park.
utter tosh

rubbish as well, you seriously think players at other clubs dont have a preseason because they are linked to move ?
it is their job to stay fit while at their current employer.
SAINT STIVS @ 6:34 PM,
Do you know what is English for…
“….Winning the League is Paramount”
Hail Hail
No way will we pay the price quoted by Paul for Idah …nonsense….we won’t pay 6 million for Miovski either ( rightly)
Conway at his age and price would be a better bet…and plenty room for improvement
Let me help you out…
….more important than anything else:
Synonyms for PARAMOUNT: main, greatest, highest, foremost, primary, predominant, dominant, key;
Hail Hail
you said winning the league is paramount but celtic should not use that as a benchmark
i am starting to agree with others gft chatbot.
They still giving out MBAs with lucky bags up there..;)
Hail Hail
ok so winning the leqaague is more important than anything else.
so more important than benchmarking agaisnt european outcomes.
see how you contradict yourself.
Let me walk you through it….
Celtic winning the SP League is the most important thing
It Celtic aim for Teir 3 UEFA status they should be competitive in Europe and also win the SP League
If a Scottish team, maybe our old firm rival R2ngers get a lot better, then we’ll have to re-evaluate our benchmark
Does that make sense!?
Hail Hail
Doesn’t paramount mean the most important thing?
So more important than European performance?
Aren’t you suggesting that achieving pot 3 status is paramount because it guarantees the league?
SAINT STIVS – more crap,we have had players signed in last couple of seasons, who weren’t up to our pace, but keep playing the man.
it is their job to stay fit while at their current employer.
?? McCarthy….??
I don’t follow the logic
The Huns are now a pot 3 team but have won 1 league in the 5 years it’s taken them to accumulate the co-efficient points to become one
So is the league paramount for them?
so the recent mantra put out there
celtic should play the youths in the league cup for experience.
celtic should be better in europe because of the resources they have
celtic should be scared of rangers coming with new players and the better european co-efficient
celtic should give other teams whatever they ask for in transfer fees.
and celtic should just win the league that is paramount.
while still needing, a left back, a centre half, another defensive midfielder, two strikers, still complying with the euro squad home grown quotas, and develop more youths.
wait till they find out brendan gets on with all the executives
CELTIC40ME @ 6:47 PM,
The last time I was taught English in Scotland it was in the mid-seventies at the Xavarians in Whiflet.
English seemed to be taught to a reasonable standard then
In fact I’d say better than I was taught in England
What’s Happened!?
Hail Hail
Last season Dundee FC`s new Manager Tony Doherty played tactics against us that made us look ordinary…and we managed a 0-2 win in Dundee.
Similar tactics were deployed by Aberdeen`s then manager who also placed 2 man marker`s on O`Riley and Hatate in the SCSF and marked both of these crucial midfielders out of almost the entire game in which we scraped through after a 3-3 draw aet and onto penalties.
Then in the SCF the Huns manager played similar tactics against us and we scraped a last minute winner.
We had 97 minutes of 4 wingers being played with hardly a single cross into the box in the entire game which broke our way when at last a midfielder ran forward and shot which was palmed out to Idah…after 97 mins in a SCF.
In both of these cup games BR had no Plan-B and we looked lost.
Can you imagine an entire season full of these types of games?
Did Bernardo play against his managers wishes by breaking forward and taking a shot at goal, rather than keep to the tippy tappy borefest which was I assume his instructions by BR?
Mark Celtic`s 2 key midfielders virtually out of the game because these teams already knew how to nullify Celtic`s ineffectual wingers usually 4 wingers all played at various times in each game.
What if other opposition teams wise up and play similar styles against us because they can`t compete financially?
Look what happened to Livingston FC when their manager David Martindale stopped parking the bus – relegated.
The Brendan version of Celtic vs a skint teams parked bus dizny whet the appetite.
How many times were we booed off of our own Parkhead pitch last season because wee skint teams learnt how to nullify Brendan`s preferred tippy tappy borefest?
Michael Johnston has shown the best defences over the past few weeks how effective he can be when the ball is played in front of him allowing him to utilise his pace which bolsters his undoubted skill set.
If, as expected, MJ is asked to be part of a BR tippy tappy borefest which negates his skill set, will it be BR who is booed and jeered, or the usual cheap target, MJ?
And who`s fault is it that x 60,000 fans are dimb and dumb and just not sharp enough to be aware of all of these important little nuances?
what about mccarthy ?
I was wrong, they’re a pot 2 team now
https://kassiesa.net/uefa/seedcl2024.html
Celtic were 6-0 up at halftime the last time we played Dundee.
CHAIRBHOY on 31ST JULY 2024 6:54 PM
Oooh a little attack on my typing!
Should we look to emulate pot 2 team the Rangers in Europe safe in the knowledge that it’ll guarantee 1 league in 5
Considering it is paramount?
Xavarians in Whiflet.
they will be embarrased that you think something is paramount but the other thing should be the benchmark
CELTIC40ME @ 6:58 PM,

Go on. Don’t post some random stuff, answer the question I asked you
That’s all I got fhellahs, if you are still not getting it you’ll need to find a better sensai
HailHail
McCarthy cant keep himself fit for who is employing him,not too difficult, then again…
!!Bada Bing!! on 31st July 2024 7:13 pm
your point was celtic sign players that are unfit with no pre season used as an excuse.
was that the case with mccarthy ?
You think every player is match fit?
answer the question was mccarthy unfit, it was your example not mine.
Kyogo gets injured/targeted on Sunday, off after 10 minutes, who plays through the middle?
Maeda- not a striker
Johnston- not a striker
Who then?
Funnily enough my elder son asked me yesterday about the Huns being ranked 28th or whatever it is by UEFA.
He couldn’t believe it but I explained to him that the points were from the Europa League and that they hadn’t got a single one from the CL ever
Non stop fun in my house

Incidentally, you spelt Whifflet wrong, not Whiflet.
It reminds me of a poster on another channel who gets lots of Coatbridge references wrong.
Just an observation.

Rather than go on about MBA qualifications could you just answer the questions I posed at 6.20.
I will make it simples and take out the double negatives. Do you agree with the last 3 statements I made in that post or not ?
No obfuscation just a simple yes or no answer ?
FYI re MBA Scottish Vs English…my qualifications were Ashridge and Edinburgh Uni Business School. Neither had English on the curriculum !
CHAIRBHOY on 31ST JULY 2024 7:12 PM
We all have our views.
My view is that to sell our backup centre forward without having another ready to come in, when the manager has said he wanted another two strikers is negligence.
To be starting the season with no back up left back is negligence considering this was the same situation in January after we loaned Bernabie.
To have no back up centre half when the manager doesn’t fancy the two we bought last year is negligence.
Sure things may alter in the next four weeks but we stand on the precipice of a third shocking transfer window.
If this continues then this Board will deserve every bit of vitriol coming their way.
BELMONTBRIAN @ 7:29 PM,
Ah right, it was a long time ago…
Hadn’t been there long when my family moved down to England.
I wanted to come back but the logistics were fraught.
Hope she enjoyed it…
But what I said was right, the standards of English in Scotland were higher than in England at that time, imo of course…
Backwards ever since:))
