At the beginning of the transfer window I predicted Adam Idah would not leave Norwich City until late August, if at all. His transformational loan period at Celtic went a long way towards ensuring we won the league and Scottish Cup, but he remained backup to Kyogo and there is no immediate prospect of that changing, even if he arrives this summer.
Norwich have watched the player’s success at Celtic and have set thier price accordingly. Forget the £6m being reported this week, City’s asking price is nearly twice that figure. That’s a lot for someone who will spend much of his time on the Celtic bench.
Celtic paid £9m for Odsonne Edouard, also as a backup striker, six years ago, but that was under Peter Lawwell, who fulfilled his commitment to spend every penny that came in over any business cycle you care to mention.
Odsonne’s profile was different. A PSG youth, Celtic correctly anticipated his value would appreciate. Adam is three years older than Odsonne, when the French striker signed his permanent Celtic deal, and Adam’s tenure on the bench at Championship grounds will likely put a ceiling on where his value goes.
Adam crossed a line on Sunday and missed his club’s flight for thier preseason tour in Austria (he travelled later on his own). This move is normally terminal for your relationship with fans. The scenario occurs at Celtic more often than is reported, Celtic’s preferred reaction is to decline the move and not report “Not in the right frame of mind to play, boss” incidents, in an attempt to keep control of their options. Not every muscle strain is actually a muscle strain.
Norwich were unable to do this and Adam is now regarded as an enemy within by the support. Adam will likely get his move this month and if he comes to Celtic you and I will cheer him on. Football is a harsh business, we are all participants.

AJ was slagged off when the huns went top of the league,
Brendan says a lot of things.A lot of things Brendan says, are not exactly what’s reported by our friends in the media.Only Press Conferences, when you can see and hear the full gist, are to be believed.
You know this.
Brendan has got this.Every confidence in him.

Brendan today about half 1, best ignored, keep making excuses, all will be fine👍
Maestro – agreed.
In 1841 Charles Mackay published a book called ‘Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds”.
Amongst other things, the hysteria on here over the past few hours reminds me it’s as relevant today as i was in 1841.
Tom Mc Laughlin,
Celtic do have a back up for Greg Taylor.Mathew Anderson.
Heresy, blasphemy, upon my soul, that boy will hang.We must spend. All that talk of bringing the kids through, you never actually fell for that.Spending,is what’s required,SPENDING.
On a personal note,100% agreement.
Huns get Kiev in the next round

After Partizan Belgrade.
Pampers time for R2angers and the SMSM. :)
Anderson done very well as did Turley (sp) ,but very little experience, for various reasons, I thought Frame looked really good at start of last season, but I think he got a bad injury
BURNLEY78 @ 8:45 PM,
The Celtic support do what they do…
I can only speak for myself
As mentioned earlier I came down to the South of England in the mid-seventies, the bigotry and hate has never been part of what I’m about.
My kids were brought up as Catholics but not at all in a sectarian way.
It’s a different world down here…
I’ve been in London doing business and been effected because I’m a Celtic supporter – that is outrageous nonsensical behaviour but Rangers supporters are brainwashed
I’ve got absolutely no time for them, they do not come close to my radar, they do not affect my life in any way….
If we pump them all well and good, watching their officials get up to their nonsense all very amusing but it’s Harlem Globetrotters stuff for me.
This idiosyncratic Bullshit can stay where it is….
Not in my name!!
Hail Hail
Maestro,
“We have a far weaker squad than last year”
Really,?Have we really?.Only Idah missing now.We have now two keepers.
Missing Oh.?We have,Forrest,Kuhn,Maeda,Kyogo Palma.Every one playing better than last year.We have Hatate looking much better,Calmac and MOR,
We will see .
Shelbourne Football Club has been fined €21,250 by UEFA for their fans exercising their freedom of speech in Gibraltar during a Conference League Qualifier. Despite the chants not denigrating any group of persons or expressing hatred, Shelbourne Football Club have been hit with a fine as big as that handed out for very serious offences.
Fans are trying to raise money to pay the fine. Shelbourne’s fans were singing about Gibraltar being Spanish. The coach of the Gibraltar team held up 3 fingers and then mimicked a machine gun gesture. Obviously in reference to the Gibraltar 3.
A wee tune for Mr John Bennet from R2angers.

CELTIC40ME @ 8:38 PM,
What the structure of the recruitment is now I’ve no idea…
I’d assume much the same as last year though, Mark Cooper is head Scout and as far as I’m aware not head if recruitment
Mark Lawwell hasn’t been replaced so I would think between the Manager, Coaches, Mark Cooper, Micheal Nicholson and Chris McKay they come to decisions over recruitment
Interestingly Brendan Rodgers said today that no player was getting sold on the cheap – that seems to suggest he has a say on when players leave.
Guess bringing them in will still be the Executive having the final say.
Hail Hail
McCarthy gets away with not being fit because he knows he’ll get away with it.
Why not give JM 2 weeks to get fit and if he fails again rip up his contract and get the CBC abuse lawyers to deal with it?
If he lives long enough to see the outcome will be another question all together.
Or why not get a manager who can turn sows ears into silk purses ala Mr Stein with Jinky, [ would anybody have heard anything about any of the Lisbon Lion’s Legend’s had it not been for the great Stein? ] Mr McNeill with Davie Provan, Mr MON with Bobby Petta etc.
Why not change the winger narrative from the never to be repeated Jinky image, to the get to the point effectiveness of Ivan Sproule at Hibs under Mogga?
The example’s were – the Hibbee’s park the bus and play on the break with Ivan Sproule as the out ball, or the similar play on the break effectiveness of Stuart Slater at West Ham, then when he was brought to Celtic and asked to play the clueless [ Celtic Way ] his effective play on the break wings were clipped and as usual he was branded a “dud” like Celtic fans today all finger point at MJ as a “dud” without factoring in the clueless manager who can only see one way BR, who clips MJ’s wings by asking him to play as though he was part of the great all conquering Barcelona team, when we are just the baw heids of the one horse league.
Another example is, John Colqhoun, brought to Celtic to play the [ Celtic Way ] and having his play on the break, wings clipped, and finger pointed at as a “dud” and yet, JC went to Hearts who gave him back his play on the break wings, and he almost helped the Hearts to pip us to the 1986 SPL title, how close was that?
A fit James McCarthy playing as a sweeper next to CCV, ala Clarke and McNeill, would be an option for an intuitive manager, like the great Stein.
The great Stein ruled Europe with one Centre Half, the great Billy McNeill, and his more than able sweeper, the great John Clarke.
Now we have a manger who watches his playing budget reduced by almost £10 million including wages on 2 Centre Half’s and after a handful of games he makes out through drip fed clues that these 2 costly defenders were not approved by him BR?
Can we not have a Celtic of which everywhere you look at them you DON’T see a dubiously rich liar looking and speaking at you and if you keep your counsel and refuse to believe the words of these liars then your untainted mind somehow becomes the bad mind, which no longer resonates with what the supposed “Celtic” narrative is being projected as?
A Celtic F. C. Exorcism wouldn’t be out of line, starting in the plastic seated stands.
Bada
I reckon Propper could be an upgrade on Goldson who was merely a back up option for Shane Duffy at Brighton. Danilo has been a good forward but hasn’t had the chances to show that as he’s been crippled by injury.
As for the rest- The Milan signing is a young fella who never played for their youth team. The ex- Chelseas guy hasn’t signed yet and meanwhile they’ve lost a whole load of players from the team that “almost won it” last year when we just fluked it.
If Danilo keeps injury free and Propper remains motivated and Jefte is more of a Neymar and less of a Scheidt, they could be more formidable than last year ,even without Goldson, Barisic, Lammers, Sima, Sakala, McCrorie and possibly Tavernier, Hagi & Roofe.
But………….
The anxious will always be anxious about the threat that “They’re coming” and the complacent will remain complacent.
But, there is no hard evidence that they are better, worse or the same as last year. And, despite our good start in pre-season, no evidence that this year’s Celtic will be better, worse or the same. Everything is guesswork. Informed guesswork by the neutral bookies does not see them estimating the Ibrox lot as any more effective than last year but they could be wrong.
We can all bicker about who’s recruitment is better AND whose player retention has been better but the only proof is to be found in the opening 3 months of the season including, coping with the pressures of Europe, for both squads.
Only then will we have an inkling if it’s close (it usually is when we’ve both played less then 12 league games), or much easier than last year. But neither of us expects to see a repeat of the Covid season under NFL, with Brendan in charge, so I hope I can avoid the charge of complacency because I’m not full of anxiety….. yet.
Bada,
How do they get experience?.I would think bring the boy on,when winning easily,Cup game against lower teams, training every day with the 1st team.Boy looks a belter. to me.
CHAIRBHOY on 31ST JULY 2024 9:34 PM
What about the strategy?
From what you’ve said other than Mark Lawwell who was head of recruitment (not involved in strategy) going there doesn’t seem to be any change at all
What has changed since January that makes you so optimistic that we’ve changed? It’s the same people making the decisions isn’t it?
When you say “bringing them in” what does that mean?
TURKEYBHOY @ 8:43 PM,
My point wasn’t really regarding Rod Petrie or ant one else really.
It’s regarding the “excuses”, if we wanted John McGinn we should have paid the money and bought him if not go look for another player.
If we want Adam Idah pay the money and get him, if not go look for another player.
Why the pantomime!?
Oh Norwich City want 12 mn for Idah….
Do they now, good luck with that…
Next on the list…
Hail Hail
TB
I’m nervous in case any of our only left back our best central defender our captain and only available steiker get injured so yes I feel we are weaker and should be stronger after a few transfer windows do you agree?
Shhhhhh next people will be saying Mikey Johnston should be given a chance.
More comebacks than Lazarus.
Oh and as it stands he will be played through the middle to rest Koyogo or if the wee man picks up an injury, MJ through the middle up top.
The boy has talent but for some other club…..oh but he scored in pre season.
D. :)
TB- Exactly, last season was fraught with nerves, and BR worked out who he could trust, but we should not be in the position of going into Sunday’s game with the same squad, GKs different…
CELTIC40ME @ 9:45 PM,
Well it’s been a belief of mine that there is a schism in Celtic PLC
Paul67 has made it clear what he regards as the recruitment strategy, U23, Under 4mn follow the analytics, few first team games, under valued….
He seemed quite taken aback when we’ve gone “off piste” and brought in Adam Idah and Kasper Schmeichel
Those seem to have been the managers decision.
I think we will be seeing more “off piste” signings, although obviously there is still a great deal of pressure against it.
By “bringing them in” I mean that obviously the manager, coaches, Scouts etc will have a big say in who they want but negotiating the fees, wages and T&Cs is down to the Executive so that gives them the final say…
Hail Hail

CHAIRBHOY on 31ST JULY 2024 9:58 PM
“negotiating the fees, wages and T&Cs is down to the Executive so that gives them the final say”
That’s some gymnastics there. It doesn’t give them the final say in deciding on who we sign, they’re just negotiating the deal. Tell me you’re not suggesting that the final say on every deal we do is the responsibility of the executive. Doesn’t that suggest Brendan bears no responsibility for any signing we make?
I have no idea where Paul67’s opinion fits in with this.
What do you think? Are you suggesting that the old strategy remains, against Brendan’s wishes, but he’ll have occasional signings to keep him happy?
That doesn’t sound like the sort of change you’re suggesting, or that would stop him from leaving again if he’d really is so opposed to the old recruitment model
So the model you’re so opposed to, and that Brendan is so opposed to is still in place?
And you’re both happy with that?
CELTIC40ME @ 10:14 PM,
Well the old strategy was supposedly; the manager identifies a position he wants strengthened, the recruitment team select three options, the manager states his prefered 1,2,3 the executive try to land the player in the prefered order…
Of course if you use the process outlined by Paul67, you get the choice of three inexperienced youngsters
Also if the manager was saying what position he wants strengthened why half a dozen centre halves, half a dozen wingers, no forwards and no full backs? In last summers shopping list…
It seems now, the manager, coaches and Scouts highlight the players they want and the Executive go to America on a jolly then come back and snooze – however to be fair to them the snooze could be down to jetlag…
Hail Hail
Your argument is so full of contradictions it’s impossible to make sense of it
A strategy that allows for regular off-piste signings isnt a strategy at all. It’s not coherent at all
God night
CELTIC40ME @ 10:32 PM,
You may have a point, maybe Micheal Nicholson can’t make head nor tail of it either, and that’s why he hasn’t managed to sign anybody
Hail Hail
CHAIRBHOY on 31ST JULY 2024 10:31 PM
That’s not the strategy, it’s the process
It’s the strategy you and Brendan apparently were so opposed to
Or at least used to before the big change and the occasional off-piste signings
Finishing with a pot shot at the board doesn’t change that
CHAIRBHOY on 31ST JULY 2024 10:36 PM
So it still Michael Nicholson doing the sugnings. Good to know, but you’d better tell Brendan
So if we get Idah and Bernardo on full time contracts, what actual progress has the team made from last season?
