At the beginning of the transfer window I predicted Adam Idah would not leave Norwich City until late August, if at all. His transformational loan period at Celtic went a long way towards ensuring we won the league and Scottish Cup, but he remained backup to Kyogo and there is no immediate prospect of that changing, even if he arrives this summer.
Norwich have watched the player’s success at Celtic and have set thier price accordingly. Forget the £6m being reported this week, City’s asking price is nearly twice that figure. That’s a lot for someone who will spend much of his time on the Celtic bench.
Celtic paid £9m for Odsonne Edouard, also as a backup striker, six years ago, but that was under Peter Lawwell, who fulfilled his commitment to spend every penny that came in over any business cycle you care to mention.
Odsonne’s profile was different. A PSG youth, Celtic correctly anticipated his value would appreciate. Adam is three years older than Odsonne, when the French striker signed his permanent Celtic deal, and Adam’s tenure on the bench at Championship grounds will likely put a ceiling on where his value goes.
Adam crossed a line on Sunday and missed his club’s flight for thier preseason tour in Austria (he travelled later on his own). This move is normally terminal for your relationship with fans. The scenario occurs at Celtic more often than is reported, Celtic’s preferred reaction is to decline the move and not report “Not in the right frame of mind to play, boss” incidents, in an attempt to keep control of their options. Not every muscle strain is actually a muscle strain.
Norwich were unable to do this and Adam is now regarded as an enemy within by the support. Adam will likely get his move this month and if he comes to Celtic you and I will cheer him on. Football is a harsh business, we are all participants.

So the same unpopular recruitment model as before except for Brendan gets to decide on a few off-piste signings
Which he’s happy with and so are you.
Good to know
Bada most new signing take time to settle and get much better second season. Even with the same squad I think we are better right now and I am confident that we will be stronger when the window shuts. Idah will develop his potential at Celtic park when a realistic price is agreed. Chill everyone.

‘Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds”.
Absolutely spot on with your reference there.
This place is a madhouse.
We have chairbhoy admitting he doesn’t care if we finish behind rangers whilst spending all day making suppositions about what is happening and blaming the board or anyone else for what exactly ?
For what he thinks Brendan meant ?
Then others on here hearing our manager saying the same as almost any other club manager in the world is saying right now about their team is progressing in the window. Yet that becomes a stick to beat a board which has little to do with who we actually sign.
Only 4 or 5 folk matter in that regard. DD BR and the finance guy and CEO ….. yet it’s the board to blame.
25 years of dominance and we still have this crap every year. Imagine we were doing as chairbhoy seems to think acceptable and we are losing to rangers.
Taurangabhoy- thanks for reply, we are always reactive, as the Board are driven by what happens at Ibrox, instead of being proactive, looking to improve the team for Europe, where we are embarrassing. No ambition other than stay ahead of the huns? Build a team and a squad for competing in Europe, the SPFL will take care of itself, too many on our Board have been there for far too long.
With as it seems, maybe, you never know, there is a chance( can’t think of any more )that Idah is coming home, joining Bernardo, will we be stronger then last season?.You all did watch us in the Sttes?.Add these two and we will be invincible again.A couple more of BRs signings,CH,and we will do damage in the CL.
Optimist.Fekin right.
Adam Idah is 23 and has 22 international caps for Ireland. Paul says Norwich now value him at 12mill
Matt O’Riley is 23 and has 1 full international cap for Denmark. Most of us think he’s easily worth 20mill+
Some may say, we’re low-balling Norwich while laughing at Atalanta and Southampton for low-balling us (if any of these data and price points are accurate btw)

Bada,
I agree about the Board.Problem is,that’s Boards for you. Most pubs, the fans will feel the same.EG,Man U as an example. We don’t see or know about teams Boards. We don’t care. They dont care about ours.
I started going with my Da,around 8 years old on the Rosebud Pub bus from Tradeston. All the talk every week was about the Kellys,Whites, how bad they were.Every game. When I got started going to the games with my mates, never a mention from then till now.My son and grandson, don’t care. Most younger one dont.As long as the team wins.
Board hating is an age thing,I am convinced.I was lucky. My father and his mates bored me to immunity.
Aye
That is some read back.
Agreed. Quite the read back.
My god this site.
Trying to post is incredible.
Good morning all.
I think we will win the TREBLE but should be planning well in a advance.
Same positions needed as last August, upgrade at LB, CB, CF.
On a personal note After my holiday to Tenerife back up to 4 stone lost.
Now to loose another 4 by Christmas.
D. :)
Good morning all from Govanhill.
Good morning from an overcast North Staffs. Another sunny day forecast – hopefully a bit of sunshine on the transfer front.
BRRB – hope your good lady had a terrific birthday yesterday.

Cheers, she did. 👍
Adam Idah: why i dont like loans without the option to buy.
This negotiation should have been conducted last season , not 3 days and counting before the new season kicks off.

Good Morning Celts…
As we kick off this season a few we Brendan gems from last season from “The Fitbaw Gospel”
🏆 “To anyone doubting me, I’ll see you back here in May”
😳 “I’ve seen off five Rangers managers now and every time they’ve said that the Rangers are coming”
👧 “Good girl”
📖 “We’ll write our own story”
💚”James Forrest is the best winger we have and one of the fathers of this club’s success”
🏆 “Time to get our trophy heads on”
🍀”This is when Celtic come to life”
😎 “At this stage of the season it’s all about who has the mentality to go and win it”
🕺🏻 “We’re going to have some fun next weekend”
Brendan Rodgers had some belters last season but tbf he always put his money where his mouth is all season and backed up every word.
From getting the fans back on side, creating a siege mentality, man management to get the best out of the likes of James Forrest when it mattered – to mind games with Rangers and having Philippe Clement on strings in the run-in – his impact can’t be doubted

You do realise that both clubs need to agree to an option to buy. Maybe Celtic did ask for the option. Maybe Norwich said no.
It’s not up to the borrowing club alone.
CHAIRBHOY
Great post to start the day and good list of BR pointers. Sure gets the Celtic juices flowing.

Also, Idah was signed late in the final day of the January window, so there probably wasn’t time to negotiate a loan-to-buy option.

SCULLYBHOY…
Johnny Bonnar?
Hail Hail
Sorry, it is not Johnny Bonnar.
Looks like Connor Gallagher, who turned down a new contract at Chelsea, is off to Athletico Madrid.
Chelsea were/are looking for £50 mill (probably from another EPL club) but I hear on the radio that £33 mill will be nearer the mark. Either way that is another potential suitor for Matt out of the picture. With Brendan holding the line on our valuation, and neither Atalanta and Southampton likely to meet it maybe Matt will be with us for what looks like an interesting season ahead. Morten Weighorst taking over at Denmark, and Danish Captain, (and former Falkirk player) Kasper now at Celtic cannot hurt either. With Paulo coming in, if we keep Reo, plus young Holm, we will pretty strong across midfield. Less so at the back and up front and central but that can change.
Willie Miller
It is a sad reflection on the Celtic team of the period that despite having undoubtedly one of Celtic’s most popular and highest regarded club goalkeepers, he never actually won any major domestic honours with Celtic.
Cheers SCULLYBHOY bhoy…
Think Brendan is the right Manager at the right time….

You are factually correct however the scenario you paint suggests desperation.
Why were we conducting business re a second choice championship player that late. I dont believe teams were fighting for Adam’s signature and their manager was on a shaky peg. We had plenty of time to scout our player and negotiate
I reiterate:-
” This negotiation should have been conducted last season , not 3 days and counting before the new season kicks off.”

Just as I was posting, I now see good old Gary has got the answer (again!). Excellent.

Birthplace: Larkhall, Scotland
Signed: 20 May 1942 (from Maryhill Harp)

Liverpool have signed nobody.
Man City have signed one player.
The debate about the value of Matt is a pointless, as we all know whatever we get will not be reinvested in the team.
Manchester United signed 18 year old Leny Yoro for £52 mill.
He is now out for three months with a broken metatarsal,
I blame modern fitba bits for that injury.
GREENPINATA
Norwich have been playing hard ball with Celtic’s attempts to sign Idah at the end of his loan deal, so why would they have agreed to a loan-to-buy option?
Still you blame Celtic for this.
You seem to believe that it’s a one-way street and that if Celtic take a player on loan, they can unilaterally make it a loan-to-buy, without getting the other club’s permission.
It doesn’t work that way.
Tom Mc,
That is precisely why i dont like loans without an option to buy.
The player is not ours, if he does well we raise the profile of the player for his club to cash in.
That is the deal and Norwich understandably want to cash in .
HH.
GREENPINATA
Player loans between clubs have been popular for decades. Loans with a right to buy are a fairly recent phenomenon.
CELTIC MAC
John Hughes missed a big part of the 1968/69 season due to a metatarsal injury, so I reckon the human skeleton had them even back then.
Chairbhoy @ 8:32am.
Great stuff with Brendan quotes.
Respect.
If I may – one that could be added?
The “novice” quote.
I think it chimes with the qualities you mention but also shows BR has just the right level of cockiness and self belief.
I have no doubt that, at certain points last season, Brendan privately had a sigh or a gulp.
But he trusted his leadership ability and delivered in line with HIS expectations.
