Addition of Abada made everything click

Celtic’s record win, 11-0 over Dundee in 1895, was the era before substitutes.  Due to injuries, Dundee were down to 9 men before halftime.  The 9-0 win over Aberdeen in 2010 benefited from three penalty kicks – and, as Aberdeen manager Mark McGhee put it after the game, Celtic had the attendance of Henrik Larsson in the stands to inspire them (honestly!).

By a subjective measure, yesterday’s 0-9 win at Tannadice is the most comprehensive victory in our illustrious history.  Whether we would have added more, if Steven Fletcher received the red card that should have come his way after a 2nd minute studs-up and to the head challenge on Joe Hart, is open to speculation.

For me, the addition of Liel Abada to the starting line-up made everything click for Celtic.  Set aside his hat-trick, that defence-splitting pass to Jota, who squared for Kyogo to start the rout, typified what he brings to proceedings.  When Adaba, Jota and Kyogo synchronise like this, it is easy to get carried away.

History will not record that Dundee United competed well for over 30 minutes of this game.  Celtic had some shaky moments at the back that would be exposed by better opponents.  When Matt O’Riley won possession and the ball broke to Kyogo to score the second, the game was over as a contest.  United looked as though they knew another pasting was coming their way and could do little to resist.

Alexandro Bernabei came on for his competitive debut and, playing as a left-sided attacker, did enough to encourage.  Ange and his players will spend the coming days contemplating the form they have hit ahead of three important games in three different competitions.  We have the League Cup first and cannot get ahead of ourselves.

” Appreciate the messages of concern. I’ve lost a few more strands of hair which I can’t afford, but other than that I’m all good. Let’s keep moving “

  2. Heaven forfend that we should actually discuss an incident from a Celtic game.

Heaven forfend that there isn’t a consensus on the appropriate outcome.

Anyway I can’t believe that people are claiming that attacking players shouldn’t be allowed to contest for a ball in case someone gets injured.

  3. Greepinata.

It is not really about our opinions. It is about referees applying the rules.

The players should know the rules.

Fletcher endangered the goalkeeper by swinging for the ball.

    It was dangerous play.

    Nay Borra 👍

I think after our last performance in Europe against Bodo with a midfield three of Calmac O’Riley and Rogic he’ll be looking to a different mix. I hope he is, although Madrid will offer a very different challenge with Kroos, Modric and new boy Tchouameni to the up a downers of B/G.

I agree, he won’t play with a DM probably ever but I do think the pasty Pirlo could be a solution without too much tweaking of the system. I am slightly obsessed with him though :)

You are watching games with green tinted specs on.

RH is different class — our ticket to CL credibility.

CMcG is having a slow start to the season.

We do not have a MF pairing — we play a MF three with a bit of rotation.

    Of the others:

MO’R — takes time to warm up in games but is class.

AM — coming off the bench and is getting up to speed / looking good.

DT — seems to be a wee bit cowed at the moment with the talent around him — he has the ability but needs to find more energy / direction at times. Currently a slow motion RH lookalike.

IY — seems to be a bit unlucky with injuries but I still believe he can make it.

New Bloke — not sure if he is a MF’er or a wide forward but hope he gets game time soon.

JMcC — the bet is lost even tough SB is now a manager.

Of the reserves — was hoping to see / hear more about SR.

He has had 3 good loan spells playing a decent level of football.

Just a case he needs to be on the bench at least by now.

Still pining for a 2018 version of ON.

Plus TR in any shape or form.

Yes, noticed that even the yellow card appeared like an afterthought from McLean

  7. I also think Mooy is the best player we have at taking the ball under pressure which will be vital against the high pressing hacking Huns.

  8. VITAL TO FIFA REFEREEING

Match officials must have excellent football understanding and need to evolve with the game to stay effective and relevant. Their two main priorities are:

    Protecting the safety of players

Consistent and uniform application of the Laws of the Game

FIFA Refereeing reinforces the protection of these core values and

the betterment of the game through the development of match officials

    and referee coaches

An indirect free kick is awarded if a player:

prevents the goalkeeper from releasing the ball from the hands or kicks or attempts to kick the ball when the goalkeeper is in the process of releasing it

A goalkeeper is considered to be in control of the ball with the hand(s) when:

the ball is between the hands or between the hand and any surface (e.g. ground, own body) or by touching it with any part of the hands or arms, except if the ball rebounds from the goalkeeper or the goalkeeper has made a save

holding the ball in the outstretched open hand

bouncing it on the ground or throwing it in the air

A goalkeeper cannot be challenged by an opponent when in control of the ball with the hand(s).

    Playing in a dangerous manner

Playing in a dangerous manner is any action that, while trying to play the ball, threatens injury to someone (including the player themself) and includes preventing a nearby opponent from playing the ball for fear of injury.

  9. Watched the game again, and Paul , you are correct re United s first half, before we cut our slack play. Having said that I thought all played brilliantly, and my man of the match was Hatate, sensational player.

Chuffed to the nicker line , wee me.

Also saw highlights of hun game , hate to say but they played some quite nice stuff.

Ignore them at our peril, but we should stuff them in any case, cos its my birthday on that day.

  10. If a celtic player had committed the foul Fletcher had committed it would have been a straight red. If a Ross county player had committed the foul the sevco player committed it would have been a straight red.

These are not controversial or contentious or ludicrous decisions. This is blatant and barefaced cheating, pure and simple.

Before the season started I wrote on here that sevco are already 12 to 15 points ahead of us. They have played 5 games and in each of these games they’ve had help. We should already be well clear.

Season after season the biggest threat we face is the corruption in Scottish football.

  11. WESTCRAIGS on 29TH AUGUST 2022 5:04 PM

exactly, we have celtic supporters saying it was ok to do that, it is not, it is dangerous play, end of story.

  12. At the time I didn’t think Fletchers challenge was worthy of a booking. It was a genuine attempt to go for a loose ball. Joe made a great save and was very brave in putting his body on the line to gather the rebound.

Watching back, Fletchers did lead with his studs showing which is a no-no, especially when so close to the keepers head. So for me, not a red card but a deserved yellow. The ref handled it well.

  13. I see reports that we are back in for St. Mirren’s Dylan Reid. I wonder if he’s the ‘one more signing’ that Ange has been talking about recently before he concludes business. Has anyone heard any news f other possible signings?

  14. MNCELT on 29TH AUGUST 2022 5:14 PM

He wasn’t leading with his studs as he went for the ball. In the nano second after his foot went past the ball his studs were showing towards Hart, as both players momentum brought them into contact.

  15. he endangered an opponent by making the swing, still you dont understand it.

that is the rules, red card for endangering an opponent.

that nano second he coul have melted Hart in the face,

was he not damaged enough ?

    ffs.

4 ) If Celtic agree terms with another Scottish club that they would like to further the career of a young prospect by bringing the talent to Parkhead any initial reluctance to move will result in all round banner headlines ‘ Celtic Snubbed ‘

Watching the re-run after the 2cnd goal went in, it looks like the Dundee United players simply chucked it. This is the same team that held us to a 1-1 draw when we were looking to clinch the title last season, the same team that ended sevco’s unbeaten league run. The Livi Manager thinks we will hand out a few more of these hammerings, (hope so) but cant see any other team chucking it the way DU did yesterday.

Someone mentioned Training Mannequins would have done better, a wee bit harsh but can see what they mean, having said that we did play some fantastic football yesterday, but definitely a big thanks to the opposition for allowing us to play.

Football isn’t played in slow motion…..

    ###

    And many situations are subjective.

  21. the unfortunate Dundee Utd. ran into what can only be described as a Celtic hurricane yesterday. United’s morale may have been low after some recent results but it must be at rock bottom after the avalanche of scores conceded yesterday.

Abada and Kyogo were undoubtedly the stars of the show with a couple of hatricks with Kyogo’s second the pick of the bunch, if you blinked you would have missed it as it flashed into the back of the net.

Celtic were sharp and relentless and obviously the good preseason with all Ange’s players available has payed off big time.

The downside of yesterday’s match was the disgraceful studs up to the head challenge on Joe Hart. It’s hard to understand what exactly is the protocol regarding a serious head injury in soccer or in fact is there any at all.

Joe should not have been left lying prostrate on a muddy pitch for nearly ten minutes with a head injury as he recieved quite intensive medical treatment. Surely he should have been removed to the dressing rooms for tetanus injection etc. and a temporary substitution allowed
