Celtic’s record win, 11-0 over Dundee in 1895, was the era before substitutes. Due to injuries, Dundee were down to 9 men before halftime. The 9-0 win over Aberdeen in 2010 benefited from three penalty kicks – and, as Aberdeen manager Mark McGhee put it after the game, Celtic had the attendance of Henrik Larsson in the stands to inspire them (honestly!).
By a subjective measure, yesterday’s 0-9 win at Tannadice is the most comprehensive victory in our illustrious history. Whether we would have added more, if Steven Fletcher received the red card that should have come his way after a 2nd minute studs-up and to the head challenge on Joe Hart, is open to speculation.
For me, the addition of Liel Abada to the starting line-up made everything click for Celtic. Set aside his hat-trick, that defence-splitting pass to Jota, who squared for Kyogo to start the rout, typified what he brings to proceedings. When Adaba, Jota and Kyogo synchronise like this, it is easy to get carried away.
History will not record that Dundee United competed well for over 30 minutes of this game. Celtic had some shaky moments at the back that would be exposed by better opponents. When Matt O’Riley won possession and the ball broke to Kyogo to score the second, the game was over as a contest. United looked as though they knew another pasting was coming their way and could do little to resist.
Alexandro Bernabei came on for his competitive debut and, playing as a left-sided attacker, did enough to encourage. Ange and his players will spend the coming days contemplating the form they have hit ahead of three important games in three different competitions. We have the League Cup first and cannot get ahead of ourselves.

Hart is actually getting back up and is on his feet when Fletcher starts his challenge for the ball. Hart then dives and stretches to reach the ball. A lot of keepers wouldn’t have done that. They would have tried to make their body as big as possible to try to stop the ball. I’d suggest Fletcher was entitled to go for that ball when he did.
Stop digging. Your wrong.
Are you trying really to say hart brought it on himself ?
Re Starfelto he takes fewer touches on the ball , pushes out a quick pass to the Left Back , last week big Jenz was dallying on the ball taking too many touches and for me it led to our lethargic play
Starfelto was on Fletcher’s case limited him to the odd flick on and on occasions just held back and covered the ineffective knock on , all in all a good performance… one crazy pass aside
You can’t dive into an area out of control in the vicinity of the keeper’s heid , ridiculous challenge, if the refs pulling out a card what possible infringement constitutes a yellow

Daft old monkey on Clyde.
Celtic should stop scoring at 4 or 5 it’s just not fair to humiliate those young United boys like that.
Stupid old bassa.
His original club won a league by one goal.
Eejit.

I’m beginning to realise that you’re not comfortable with any form of nuanced debate or argument.
And, no, I’m not victim blaming, before you go off on one.
You have no nuanced arguments. You ignore what the rule is. And make convaluted slowed down video analysis to justify a kick to the head of a Celtic goalkeeper.
You continue the nonsense for a day.
You don’t understand the rules.
Entitled? Law 12 reads otherwise.
That said I’ve followed Fletcher’s career since he nearly, didny, sign for us back in the Willo Flood days. Lost track of the clubs he played for, but one thing that has been consistent throughout, he has always been a brave player, going in where lessers fail to tread, and sometimes, the injuries show, too brave for his own good. But that does not “entitle” him to “endanger the safety of an opponent”, which is what he did. That is serious foul play. Bona fide football supporters familiar with the rules would be aware of that.
I slowed it down, analysed it, and my “subjective” summary, is he kicked him on the head to the danger of the player.
“subjective”
ffs.

‘make convaluted slowed down video analysis’
AKA Facts
AKA Reality
Fantastic football and movement off the ball. Down here in Indonesisa I get all the top leagues in Europe and also MSL from the states. Boring
Big Ange has got us on the move and every other games look static. Hard to watch or maybe its because its not Celtic I don’t realy pay attention.
Celtic were the 4th team to join the “F” group and I’m delighted we play Real first. A wise old national team coach ( Jock Stein) once said
at a world cup draw ” you don’t want to play the minnows on their first game as that’s their cup final” Lets hope Real think we’re the minnows
It’s how VAR works.
They use slowed down video analysis.
To apply the rules.
I wonder why they do that.
Don’t they know what the Laws of the Game say?
maybe he has the wrong video, maybe in that one the player doesnt get kicked in the head.
maybe the referee was able to go home watch it and update his report with I got it wrong.

Ernie you know we dont have VAR here, ?
Was Joe Hart on both feet when Fletcher went to challenge for the ball?
thats me done,
I do find it disturbing that someone justifies a player kicking another player in the head.
any player, at any club, it is not allowed.
A reminder that there is a meeting of the Shipbank Shipwrecks on Friday 2nd September at 1pm. A warm up in McKinnons is recommended for those gentlemen who have doubts about their fitness before entering the fray. Very nice rolls and skwerr, bacon etc. Kindest regards-BRRB.

Was Joe Hart on both feet when Fletcher went to challenge for the ball?
Joe’s feet are not the issue , it’s Fletcher’s , I’m sure he had no intention of booting Joe in the napper but if that’s what happened which it did , you appear to be relying on the time honoured excuse I didn’t mean it ref ….. if the ball is bobbling about the 6 yard box then chances are the keeper is going to dive to save it … so when the forward lunges in then in my book if he batters the keeper then he’s got to go
BBC Scotland had an item on our 9-0 win on their evening news programme. Admittedly, it was mainly asking United supporters how they viewed it. STV, which usually has a big item especially on a Monday evening, didn’t even mention football at all. One wonders why???
Add me to the list, red all day long, not even a debate.
Remember John Thompson, yer man English didny mean it.

I did not want to mention the Prince Of Goalkeepers, but his loss is remembered every year on the anniversary and of many individuals visiting his grave,
It is a weird weird celtic supporter that justifys an opponents actions that endanger a goalkeeper,
I heard the rocket on the pjone in saying Celtic should have taken pity on Dundee United’s young boys and stopped at 5.
He also stated that AZ Alkmmar should have done likewise.
Do people like that really exist. ?
In the real world we were just mega disappointed it wasn’t 10.
Suppose I deserve it for listening to super scoreboard
HH, the journey gathers pace.
GP, its 24 houes later, but i am now annoyed we didnt score more in the last 11 minutes.
a record was there to be broken,
wasted opportunities.

Opinion, fact or mair pish?
SS,
Definitely. I know it sounds ridiculous to be any way critical when we won 9 nil away from home, but we were ” wasteful ” of some gilt edged chances.
The record was definitely up for grabs.
HH.
On this day we wore the hoops.

I can understand your reluctance to mention him, but and always the but, our Joe was blessed IMO, it could have ended very badly intent or not, only staples in his head is proof he was a lucky bhoy.

Caller or panelist ?
Joe puts on a brave face. But I bet you today that gash is bloody sore. And although he played on yesterday I thought that was a wrong thing for the staff to allow. He could have been further injured.
He should sit out midweek. And could miss out weekend.
As to the kick. He could have got it smack in the face. A broken kneck. A broken jaw. Or worse.
He was lucky

Haven’t seen any posts from Tom McLaughlin, is he OK?

Flounced last week 🙈
BOURNESOUPRECIPE, thanks. A bit surprised at that.
Tom is missed.
Opinionated for sure but with great match insights from real attendance home and away.
I would like him back.
I wonder why this happened – weird numbers again involving you know who:
Season 21-22 Celtic champions
Wangers received 9 penalties, Celtic received 5
Season 20-21 Newco champions
Wangers received 7 penalties, Celtic received 6
Evidence of a difference in judgements in games involving Newco – very possibly.
The weird thing though – in the 20-21 season, 6 of their 7 penalties were awarded in Sept, Oct, November. They only got one, in May after that ! Very odd.
The rest seem to be evenly distributed (by which time had they won the league in 20-21?)
20-21 No. of penalties awarded to
R : Sept 2, Oct 1, Nov 3, May 1.
C : Sept 1, Oct 1, Nov 1, Dec 1, Feb 2
21-22
R : Sept 1, Oct 2, Dec 2, Feb 1, Apr 1, May 2
C : Aug 1, Oct 1, Jan 1, Mar 1, Apr 1.
In the 21-22 season they received 6 penalties between Dec and May.
In the 20-21 season they received 1 penalty between Dec and May.
That is a big difference , wonder why it happened.

In fairness it wasn’t a particularly spectacular flounce , so hopefully the cantankerous ole curmudgeon will return soon , and pick up his baton.
