Nice skills by AEK defender. Deserves a wee mention

are they really a savvy counter-attacking team, or is our lack of ability to make a telling forward pass making a bang average team look like Italy circa 1982?
right now, I”m leaning towards the latter….
you just know we are not going to score from corners – great delivery , just no quality , height in the box

How many side and back passes does it take to get into the opposition half? Too many …. particularly when it’s finished off with a longer ball straight to touch.
Good effort by Griffiths, unlucky to see ball slide past the post.
Can’t help feeling that we play so many side and back passes because we have few options up front, with relatively little movement.
HT and we are still in this.
So annoying that we are in this position against a team which is best described as solid.
I have yet to meet a Celtic fan who didn’t identify the team’s weakness before this season started. I am assuming that the Celtic board and the manager similarly were in a position to identify that weakness.
Despite that we let a weak central defence become even weaker.
We can still win this game but the PLC board should resign if we don’t.
We played with the fear for 10 minutes at the start and could have been 2:0 down.
However, AEK went into their shell and have coughed up even more ball than we have.
Griff’s chance was a great effort and the Hendry header was a half chance
But…..
We are stilll behind to a team that have not dominated us.
Scott Brown’s ball-winning has been immense.
If we can get through the first 10-15 minutes without conceding, we could do this.
This team fancy themselves as defenders and will try to hold 1:0

We need more urgency. Just watched us with possession in the AEK half and a few sideways / backward passes later we are putting ourselves under pressure. Not the 1st time we have done this. Watch when we attack usually our forward momentum stops with a sideways pass or three and it usually ends up with the ball back in our own half. Possession is great but do something with it.
Far too static. Need to get some movement between the lines.
That’s two schoolboys goal we have lost to this mob. Sickening.

Nearly 70% of possession gets you nothing against top defensive sides, who went up the park to find our net again.
Need our luck to change but don’t think it will start tonight
Out set pieces have been poor since Martin.
Its as if we never practice them at all, knowing we are going to get them. A bit like the CBs not defending when they know they will have to.
How many years have we been giving a way soft goals all over Europe.
Its there for the taking if we can get one early.

The sieve facilitated yet another early goal in Europe but has settled down as the game progressed bar Jozo miss hitting a pass straight out of play and young Jack dribbling into trouble.
I don’t believe Athens are any better than us but they do what they do fairly well and we have given them a real helping hand.
We’ve beaten better teams than this under Brendan.
Stating the obvious. One goal squares the tie.

If we can get an early goal, then we will see what AEK are about.
Are they conceding the midfield and sitting back or are we forcing them back?
Lustig culpable again in not stopping the cross, but focus on defence coaching is a priority.
It doesn’t seem to feature high on Brendan’s priorities.
We are still in this tie. We are having better possession and have had our chances. Their defence looks made for Dembele. Every chance we get their confidence will get eroded.
If we can nick a goal we will go on to win this Celtic playing a controlled game away from home & with a bit of luck itcould at least still be a draw

They are no great shakes but are organised.
The goal again came from an untracked player attacking the box.
Although Lustig was poor at goal i wonder what instructions our full backs are under.
Both he and KT are getting caught narrow when they come forward.
He and KT look hesitant and unsure.
What has happened to the squashbuckling Kieran?
McG has been excellent and Broony also.
Ntcham is also good and keeping ball moving.
Hendry our best defender so far.
Still don’t understand why JF continually faces backwards to receive a pass as it often kills our momentum.
Injuries have played a part but the difference between these sides is they are more compact and organised .
I think we have the better players but are vulnerable to this kind of opponent.
We’ve been the better team since 10 minutes in. Believe we can score at least 1 in 2nd half but our defence is the weakest it’s been for years so will need a lot of luck not to concede again.
Same old mistakes keep happening , that’s the frustrating thing. Crosses not blocked ,defenders not aware of opponents in the box….basic stuff.
Not just Lustig culpable at the goal, Every Celtic player in the box was caught flat footed not one of them anticipated the cross getting through. Poor poor defending
