After PSG, conceding 5, 6 and 7 needs to stop

299

After the two drubbings  at the hand of Paris St Germain, I read how they were among the best teams ever to visit Celtic Park.  In the next round of the Champions League they lost home and away to Real Madrid (currently 15 points off the pace in La Liga).  The truth is, we flattered the French champions-elect.

PSG are not on the level of any of the Barcelona teams we have faced in recent years, or the Milan or Juventus teams who eliminated us from the Champions League knock out stages.  They have abundant talent, but this is not a team who should be beating us 0-5 and 7-1.

The Milan team we faced in 2007, who were on their way to winning the Champions League, contained Maldini, Gattuso, Seedorf, Pirlo, Inzaghi, Ambrosini and Kaka.  Celtic held them to two 0-0s over 90 minutes, with Telfer, McManus, O’Dea, Naylor and Sno in the side, none of whom would get into the current side.

Truth is, we have better players than at any point under Gordon Strachan and Neil Lennon.  The current crop have and will continue to achieve more domestically than their predecessors, but we cannot go toe-to-toe with Europe’s moneyed elite any more than Morton can at Celtic Park.

This season’s Champions League group was a five defeat and one win success.  We eliminated a higher seed – progress in anyone’s book.  But conceding five, six and seven goals needs to stop.  Defending against overwhelming talent is an art.  Let’s learn it.

  1. By the bye, I begin to believe it a waste of time complaining to the BBC about BBC Scotland employing so many tax dodgers/ It seems BBC Headquarters were actively encouraging their staff down south to employ tax dodging methods.

    Juve score. 1-1.

Congratulations to the young Celts. Always good to beat the deid team.

I think you make your points well but I don’t think the solution to cheating is to punish the Victims. You are depriving yourself of the pleasure of being at Celtic Park with like minded Celtic fans. Its a real Highlight to be at a Celtic game at Celtic park.

Sure the catering is poor and sometimes the fare on the park is far from delicious, but, it is better than any alternative. I remember speaking with a chap who stayed in Milan and went to the San Siro Hospitality every week with his business, this was the time when Italian football was at it’s zenith, I said it must be great to see all these fantastic players each week. He replied that it is great but it’s not as good as watching Celtic, he said he didn’t feel emotionally involved

It’s the biggest and best stadium in the country, we are the Treble winners and our fellow supporters including the Green Brigade create a great atmosphere. The informed opinion in Europe that it’s at least one of the best stadium experience on European lights

To miss out on this because of the Huns cheating is depriving yourself

We had thought we were being cheated and now we know, but, we don’t accept whatever the SFA and media feed us. We know they cheated and will never forget it.

To chuck it all in because Rangers cheated is exactly what they would want

I will, with my fellow Celtic Fans continue to go and support my Team.

I wish you could bring yourself to come back. I am sure you would love it. It doesn’t mean you support the cheating but, by your very actions we can confront those that try and keep us down

Not a fan of Juve, but I have a very good friend who is a big Fan. Lovely guy, from Ancona

I have no love for the English clubs and wouldn’t be unhappy to see Spurs go out.

Bigbhoy I just read your latest post and I gotta cook dinner or would respond to it straight away but I will just pull you about this line

The Celtic Board have not and will not accept the back of the Bus. John Reid(Boo) famously said as much.

We , right now , are the biggest victims of the greatest swindle ever in British football.

How the hell are we not accepting the back of the bus?

We are not only accepting the back of the bus but are making the biggest payments for the bus while being forced at the back by the driver!

Since JR said that we have been royally shafted.

You can’t honestly believe what you wrote?

  5. Mahe You are urging us dyed in the wool Celtic Supporters not to pass the flame on to the next generation.

You make an excellent point about Celtic’s powerlessness in effecting change because of the rules of SFA and SPFL membership.

I’m not sure folk accept that their mighty Celtic are as powerless to act outside of the rules that Celtic have agreed to abide by as members of the Scottish Football Association of clubs.

This means they have to work within those rules and that is what they have been doing, although in terms of Res12 they should have trusted us more when making the case for not passing Res12 in 2013.

That was a misjudgement on their part but it would have explained their reluctance to take Res12 to UEFA and justified the route we went along with in any case, which was to investigate domestically within the constraints of SFA Membership.

What the experience since then should be telling Celtic is that there are folk at the SFA actively prepared to hurt Celtic to protect themselves and help “Rangers” at the expense of Celtic and the integrity of our game and fire at some point has to be fought with fire.

But back to Celtic efforts on the power balance front. The request for an investigation into SFA handling of RFC use of ebts was voted down by the SFA Board where the balance of voting power lay on what I’ll call the blue side.

Regan’s departure has changed that, which means when a decision has to be made on the CO investigation it is not going to be so easy for the blues to have their way, and if Res12 provided a bit of fire to remove Regan then we didn’t get dressed up fur nuthin.

I see the petition that allows Celtic freedom within the rules they have to abide by to approach the SFA, has gone to Celtic and so keeps the pressure on the process currently in train, a process in which I might add, no unicorns were hurt. :)

Corkie, you would knowingly introduce your kin to a scam?

What about gambling, cigarettes? You wouldn’t introduce them to something rotten at the core would you and if so why?

And in 20 years when they say I’m not following that anymore because it’s a farce what say ye then to them?

Sorry but at the time I knew it was rigged, we all did,, but I thought you like me would just go along with it because we always have?

  12. PCS

Maybe so, but our silence is condoning the corruption, that’s what riles me, we have been cheated out of 100s of millions and we are the bad bhoys.

Cheating is cheating, end of, to know it and say nothing is condoning it, but it’s all about the money, the dirty stinking money.

  15. IVEHADTOCHANGEMYNAME –

Pretty sure that Mahe’s infamous rant at Dallas was AFTER he’d been shown the red card, which was what incensed him. As the days and weeks passed we were fed the line that “he deserved to be sent off after that behaviour…” forgetting that the behaviour was triggered by being sent off. I think.

  16. “Once you eliminate the impossible, what remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth.”

Hoddle is an awful summariser. How he can say there’s an amazing atmosphere at Wembley is baffling to say the least.

If I were on the Celtic Board or indeed the board of other clubs I would be asking the SFA how they can ask supporters to buy ST’s to watch a game whose honesty is on trial.

Or I’d have to give assurances to supporters that clubs are satisfied that no wrongdoing took place or it did but each club can guarantee it cannot happen again.

  19. Ok Thanks for the prompt CRC

Had intended holding off until “mymhatemick” was sorted

    Here goes

Many thanks of you will be aware of my daughter Laura, and her very special Heart of Gold for those in desperate need of help.

CQN in the past has been very kind to Laura in supporting her charitable drives

Be that HCPT, and paying to take 2 very special kids to Lourdes, or through feeding and clothing for several months an orphanage in Kenya.

This year (Laura claims will be her last as she gets married next year) Laura is doing something totally different, but awesome and will make a Huge, no Gigantic difference to many hundreds of less fortunate girls.

This year Laura will be heading to a special Girls school in Ghana, which is supported by a charity called “Let us Shine” https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=gU9sx_kjRX8

This girls school is run in my view very similar to Mary’s Meals, and the charity/ school was set up by a local Stirling Doctor, Mary Higgins in memory of her Doctor husband.

St Mary’s primary school in Bannockburn have this school as it’s chosen charity, and the school is also sponsored by St Margaret’s Cowie and St Mary’s Raploch, plus the local Stirling churches.

Mary and her husband were very well known in the Stirling school/church community.

    Anyway

This July Laura is heading to Ghana to teach at this girls school for a month

Laura will be only the 2nd fully qualified teacher to teach at the school in its 5 year existence.

We are paying for Laura’s visit, but she is looking to raise £3000 for the school, to feed and cloth the girls.

St Mary’s Bannockburn, where Laura is a teacher are fully supporting and fundraising for this event, with the kids at school all doing wonderful things in supporting The fundraising.

One of the events Laura is looking for support.

On Friday March 23rd the school has arranged a Race Night ( adults only) to be held in the school hall, it’s a BYOB event.

Laura would be extremely grateful if any of the CQN brigade could join us at the race night £5 per ticket- join CRC at his table :-))

Also, very kindly donated by the Walk with Shay team, we have a few very special prizes on offer if CQN’rs were to be kind enough to sponsor the jockeys of the races on the night – again £5 per jockey (CRC will inform on the prizes)

We are also looking for some prizes for the raffle on the night

Thanks for you time and no doubt great support

    Hail Hail

I agree with you. A club with a history of match fixing. Calciopoly. They cheated us pure and simple. When we met them in the European Cup when Liam Brady played for them, their fans attacked our fans after the game. Some used bicycle chains and swords. Some of our fans were slashed. A cancer of a club.

Really? Forget other Clubs, ain’t ever happening. In that scenario then only huns would be buying season tickets and attending every game….
