After PSG, conceding 5, 6 and 7 needs to stop

299

After the two drubbings  at the hand of Paris St Germain, I read how they were among the best teams ever to visit Celtic Park.  In the next round of the Champions League they lost home and away to Real Madrid (currently 15 points off the pace in La Liga).  The truth is, we flattered the French champions-elect.

PSG are not on the level of any of the Barcelona teams we have faced in recent years, or the Milan or Juventus teams who eliminated us from the Champions League knock out stages.  They have abundant talent, but this is not a team who should be beating us 0-5 and 7-1.

The Milan team we faced in 2007, who were on their way to winning the Champions League, contained Maldini, Gattuso, Seedorf, Pirlo, Inzaghi, Ambrosini and Kaka.  Celtic held them to two 0-0s over 90 minutes, with Telfer, McManus, O’Dea, Naylor and Sno in the side, none of whom would get into the current side.

Truth is, we have better players than at any point under Gordon Strachan and Neil Lennon.  The current crop have and will continue to achieve more domestically than their predecessors, but we cannot go toe-to-toe with Europe’s moneyed elite any more than Morton can at Celtic Park.

This season’s Champions League group was a five defeat and one win success.  We eliminated a higher seed – progress in anyone’s book.  But conceding five, six and seven goals needs to stop.  Defending against overwhelming talent is an art.  Let’s learn it.

Good post and I am in complete agreement.

Do less lurking and posting than previously for the reasons you state.

I was looking at a couple of CQN Christmas Issues the other night and the majority of posters from 4/5 years ago don’t post now.

    And that’s a shame.

I suspect there may be a few posters on here who are not Tims, whose sole purpose is to promote internecine warfare.

Hoping for any victory on Sunday, but if we lose it won’t be the end of the world.

    C’MON THE CELTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fair point. The silence from the PLC is certainly a DD business trait (apart from his unfortunate gaff about ‘Rangers’ History).

Mr Lawwell is the man who attended SFA Meetings and chose to play Boardroom musical chairs at the time of the Supreme Court Decision, for example.

How did Celtic vote on the question of whether Glibby was ‘a Fit and Proper Person?’ Did Mr Lawwell vote? (A question not a statement.)

Why didn’t the SFA hand over the paperwork re Glibby’s application to Mike Ashley?

Given Celtic’s failure to deal with the Minty years and the fraudulent ‘9 in a Row’. Why should anyone have any trust in the same businessmen to represent the Celtic Family, at this time?

Why would anyone want to hand over money to a PLC, who at best are grossly incompetent? IMO

Nope, until the PLC earn my trust by answering questions they will not receive a penny from me.

Sadly, it’s the hardworking supporters who blindly trust that are the ones who are unwittingly doing damage to Celtic Football Club.

The silence of the support is seen as the approval of the PLC’s behaviours.

That’s fine while Sevco are a laughingstock, not when the joke’s on us… IMO.

Should we lose on Sunday this place will be rammed with people for whom being right about their own pet theory is more important than Celtic.

“To me Celtic represent a ‘People & a Cause’ & nobody be it Dermot Desmond or the SFA or bent referees will ever dilute or take that away from me.”

    Quote of The Day!

  4. The Celtic Board colluded with the efforts to save and rehabilitate Der Hun.

Why wouldn’t they? It makes good business sense.

What’s left of this season shows that.

It’s up to individuals to decide what they want to do about it.

One thing is clear though (to me at least). Nothing’s going to be done about any of what’s taken place.

And in a few years time it will all be forgotten about.

That will be The Great Desmondo’s (and Peter Lawell’s) legacy to Celtic and Scottish football.

  5. one of the reasons i mainly lurk on this site is because of people like you corky, dont leave because of the killjoys stay and enjoy the good posts (you know who to avoid)……. my son text me yesterday reminding me that we fly to marmaris on the evening of the semi, regardless of the result i’m still delighted to be a tim going to turkey, than a sev swirling the sewer :¬)

  6. Would anybody be surprised if Brendan Rodgers having read the posts on here stated. :- What’s the point!!!

  7. 50 shades of green on

Well I’m going to ipox on Sunday with my son and 7,000 fellow Celtic fans to support the team my wee da brought me up to support.

So spare me your mock outrage about this that and the next thing , whatever you think of calling me will be nothing compared to what I will get called on Sunday, I was brought into this world a Celtic fan and supporter and I will be leaving this world a Celtic fan and supporter.

Huns cheat, sfa cheat, refs cheat, this is not new news, I suffered plenty from hun and ref cheating and more than likely will again, I endured our bad times, so please dont ask me to bhoycott the good times ( I wont listen anyway).

    So to summarise………

    Borrocks to Boycotts.

Support yer team, faithful through n through.

  8. PHILBHOY,

I agree with much of your post. Some of those who very occasionally post only ever come on to complain, mainly about the Board. They seldom appear when we are doing well; even then, their praise is minimal and usually with not so subtle digs at whoever takes their fancy.

Now that we are about to face the deid team, and with the smsm is overdrive, suddenly they reappear, trying to sow discord and mistrust. How they must hurt when we prevail in the cesspool that is Scottish football.

  9. Today’s ETims diary reports that David Murray is on the way back to Rangers. This is really the Final straw for me.

How he can be allowed back given his history at Oldco? I see that he is supposed to making an investment

As Sevco is a private company anyone can but shares, however, his ego would force him to become a Director.

Celtic need to bring this up with SFA and SPFL and ensure it is blocked.

This charlatan dumped £1 Billion of Debt and was able to Cherrypick the liquidated assets for his family trust. The Government bailed out the BoS via Lloyds and his £1billion debt was covered by the Taxpayer.

The same taxpayers who he bumped with The EBT scheme.

This should be escalated to both UK and Scottish Governments and this creep should be barred from football.

    Great post

    Starry Plough

I was there too throughout the 80s/90s/00s. However, everything up until 2012 is fair game, no one knew the scale of the unlevel playing field in which we operated. For Celtic to have gained so much success say’s so much for our club and our support throughout those first 124 years.

However, since then, there can be no excuses of not knowing what we are now buying in to. I refuse to set foot in Ibrox, or contribute to the SFA coffers in any way shape or form. Neither New olub Rangers or the SFA have made a single penny from me since 2012.

I still have my ST and unfortunately, I have had to suffer them twice a season as they pollute our home , but I’ll probably review that this close season as I’ve frankly had enough of our PLC doing nothing.

  11. We all know they cheated, Sevco that’s it,and I suspect they will still trade, regardless of good honest person’s,and Celtic Supporters,to get them put out the game altogether, but that doesn’t make it for Celtic Supporters from chucking it,after all our aim is to support our Club,so there’s is no excuse for not having a Season Ticket, unless finances, are not that good,me and I can afford it , Season Ticket is a must for me,till the day I die.

  12. SAN LUIS

I’m guessing then you’re around the same age as me, over 50’s mob but try explaining that to the younger team, my nephew for instance, 22, and nothing no amount of talk or info on corruption is going to stop him being there on Sunday.

my point is do we have the right to ask him not to go’

To deny him and his generation their “hun” experiences as we had ours??

I think it’s easy to become complacent in the middle age about what being a Celtic supporter means to a lot of people.

And to put it bluntly he doesn’t give a flying peking duck about the SFA him and his mates just want to be there on Sunday when we kelp the huns.

Calling them Green Huns or any of our support Green Huns for their decision on how they support Celtic is in my opinion a step too far.

What have we become on here?

    CorkCelt……an awfy braw post…..The Celtic Family .

on a lighter note there was a braw post in The Irish Times from a Dublin man from Blackford.

he wrote in a letter to the editor.

    Dear Sir

Brexit: the undefined negotiated by the unprepared to get the unspecified for the uninformed.

smiley bet he is a Celtic bhoy thing…

  14. BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS on

I agree with those who will continue to support our club regardless. Why should the victims be punished, whether that be the club or the fans?

I also have serious sympathy with those who have had enough, and are suspicious of a real or perceived part in the club’s part in the continuation myth, and retention of history, etc.

I also have sympathy with the club, who IMO,put their faith in due process and the law, where the sanctions necessary were as clear as the nose on your face.

Maybe the club should have been more open with the fans from Day One. Had they done so,I think much of the angst could have been avoided, and a united front achievable. Perhaps they had good reason not to. This is a mess, and we are turning on each other and ignoring the real guilty parties in all of this.

By all means,we should continue to apply the sniff test to the board, but it’s time to get on with it and bury these bastards for good. Take out the guilty, not the victims.

    BIGBHOY

Allegedly he has denied it, according to the “Sun”

Anyway, no chance, the Huns hate him, as deep down, they know Craigy Bhoy isn’t the chief villian that killed them.

  16. Starry Plough ( Statler)

    Yes 51 at last count!

The ‘green huns’ was more about our recent attitude to winning trophies whilst ignoring fair play and integrity . That ‘win at any cost’ mentality is alien to me and is something I never thought Cerltic FC ( or fans) would buy into. Yet, by ignoring Res 12 as we pursue trophies, this is exactly what our PLC is doing. As fans we can either accept it or fight it. My choice is to boycott SFA/Huns for ever.

However, I accept that the young team- and the old bhoys – want their GIRFUY moments against that mob and are willing to pay £50 to see it. It’s just that I’m not.

    Yours

  17. I just wish the faithful through and through brigade would stop moaning about all the corruption and cheating, historic and contemporary, in the Scottish game.

Its their approach that has allowed the Celtic Board to remain silent throughout and to observe the rehabilitation of Der Hun ( exactly as predicted and desired by The Great Desmondo).

You’ve made your bed, now lie in it.

  18. I am glad that Murray has denied he is trying a come back. I doubt that Sevco Fans would turn down him coming back as the are in desperate need for investment.

It would be a real slap in the face that the arch cheat would get back.

  19. SAN LUIS

I think that’s important that everyone follows there own conscience on it, I get a bit worried when I see sections of the support coming under fire for how they support the club.

I live away so my choices have been extremely limited over the last few years but like you I wouldn’t be attending Ibrox and the SFA games too.

Not sure I agree the club are ignoring Res 12, maybe a bit slow to realise it’s potential game change power but from what Auldheid posts it’s still in the game. So let’s see the final outcome.

The CO at the SFA has to report at sometime and that may well be Celtic’s last chance to get the support onside, let’s feckin’ hope they do!

  20. I seem to have misremembered the last 6 six years. Only one club spoke out about the hun’s tax evasion, only one club contacted the SPL to question the award of a licence to play in European completion to the huns. Only one club called publicly for the LNS sham to be revisited. In my stupidity I thought that club was Celtic.

My membership of the “Faithful through and through” Brigade has obviously blinded me to the truth. Obviously I have mistaken Celtic saying they believed that the Supreme Court decision meant that the LNS decision had to be looked at again when what the actually said was they have “no appetite for a review”. Funny how the mind plays tricks on you. Thankfully we have all these hyper intelligent guys keeping us “Simple, Back of the bus, Old Firmist, Board apologising Sheep” on the right track.

Give my head peace, only one club has done anything and yet they are the ones being lambasted. However as soon as anyone calls for action against those clubs that have actually colluded in the huns reappearance we are swamped by howls of protest that those who do not attend away games have no right to demand that of supporters who travel all over the country to back the team. Funnily enough some of these guys don’t attend home games but still believe they have the right to talk down to those who do.

I am a Celtic supporter, neither a better or worse supporter than anyone else but the intellectual arrogance of some on this site is breath taking in how they perceive those who do not share their outlook or agenda.

Back to lurking and to be honest I do a lot less of that now than previously.
