Age of the Bampots, McPake and cover for Victor

1008

James McPake’s absence tomorrow will be a blow to Hibs and a significant boost to Celtic.  Hibs are short on cover in all areas and McPake, their captain, is an instrumental component in their defence.  Celtic are without the suspended Victor Wanyama but they are far better provisioned all over the field, especially in central midfield.

Do you remember the good old days when a football club would be able to spin a load of old tosh to the media, who would report to an incredulous public?  This is far more difficult in the multi-channel internet age.

The BBC yesterday reported the headline “Former chief executive Charles Green is cleared of having close links with former Rangers owner Craig Whyte”, although the article itself proclaims a less ambitious “will be cleared”.

All fine and good, but I scoured several articles on this subject for mention as to whether or not the Rangers International internal investigation considered evidence from both sides – the key fact in this story, but one which was missing from reports.  Fortunately an Internet Bampot stepped in to help all those in the media.  I’m away to check all the updated reports reflecting the new information……

Willie Wallace will be signing copies of his autobiography from 2pm until 4pm at Waterstones on Sauchiehall St.  Get your Cup Final weekend off to a Lisbon Anniversary start!

Heading home by bus from St Michael’s Academy in Kilwinning and passing a group of local bampots who attended the school, and who used to fight their way home most afternoons.

Big group of them – waving flags, all wearing Celtic scarves and in fine voice.

    Nobody challenged them that day!

………….I have now found it on both Sky and BBC tomorrow afternoon.

Alas, I am due to undertake a 16 mile walk tomorrow, that has been scheduled for a couple of months. As I am the walk leader I am unable to get out of it, so I will be unable to watch the match after all!!!

If your walk ends up at Inverarnan, you might find that at least one member of your group will be making a very early start & has arranged to watch the final in the Drovers Inn.

  24. 25th May 1967 my oldest brother sadly no longer with us, watched the European Cup Final in the company of his 2 cousins and their father, in their house in Kilnarnock where we lived at the time, all was going to plan for them as Inter went one up, change of mood as we equalise, when the second goes in and Celtic continue to dominate the uncle steps in and switches off the tv before the end. The Wee man ran all the way home to hear the end of the game in a neighbours house where my da and others were partying, in tears and out of breath he relayed the story, he was 12

My Da was and is a quiet wee man, but you crossed him at your peril. The uncle was sorted that evening, he became an ex uncle overnight, not a word passed between them both for nigh on 25 years. To add insult to injury for him the youngest of the cousins converted to the Celtic immediately following that game, his sons follow to this day. We always thought his change of sides was due to the victory in the Bug Cup, not so he explained later it was the fans, it was seeing them on the day on black and white tv in Lisbon celebrating before during and after. Celtic fans are different from others, and were different for all the right reasons, Lisbon and Seville showed that.

Enjoy today’s anniversary, enjoy tomorrow’s Cup Final.

You deserve it for all you give and bring to the game.

    Hail Hail
