James McPake’s absence tomorrow will be a blow to Hibs and a significant boost to Celtic. Hibs are short on cover in all areas and McPake, their captain, is an instrumental component in their defence. Celtic are without the suspended Victor Wanyama but they are far better provisioned all over the field, especially in central midfield.
Do you remember the good old days when a football club would be able to spin a load of old tosh to the media, who would report to an incredulous public? This is far more difficult in the multi-channel internet age.
The BBC yesterday reported the headline “Former chief executive Charles Green is cleared of having close links with former Rangers owner Craig Whyte”, although the article itself proclaims a less ambitious “will be cleared”.
All fine and good, but I scoured several articles on this subject for mention as to whether or not the Rangers International internal investigation considered evidence from both sides – the key fact in this story, but one which was missing from reports. Fortunately an Internet Bampot stepped in to help all those in the media. I’m away to check all the updated reports reflecting the new information……
Willie Wallace will be signing copies of his autobiography from 2pm until 4pm at Waterstones on Sauchiehall St. Get your Cup Final weekend off to a Lisbon Anniversary start!

“I firmly believe that the Rangers FC took their first step towards extinction 46 years ago tonight.”
Definitely a defining moment.
But the first step towards liquidation for our former rivals came the moment David Murray was allowed to borrow money from the bank to take control at Ibrox.
And for that we must always be thankful.
I was born 5 years after Lisbon, so I grew up hearing the stories and of cours in a day without Youtube, file sharing, instant pictues of nearly anything you want. So although I have no Lisbon story I remember vividly the day a crowd of us gathered around a television and new fangled Video player to watch the Celtic story when I was, I think about 10 years old. I was by then a ‘Celtic supporter’ and I knew who Jock Stein was but not the full story.
It was watching the ‘Celtic Story’ that really got me hooked. When I saw the players with a trophy I’d seen Nottingham Forrest lift, Liverpool win on numerous occasions, I remember thinking – ‘us? Celtic? We won that?’
It’s funny how one afternoon spent watching one video can have such an effect on a whole life and way of thinking.
That was my moment of awakening for my ‘Celtic Consciousness’.
Hail Hail and Happy Big Cup Day

I watched the 1967 European Cup final with my da (still miss you), my mum and Fr Brosnan; it made a major impact on me. I can’t remember a thing about the game but my mum says I nearly jumped out of my pram three times when they celebrated the goals and the final whistle.
I was two months old. Seeds sown.

Griffiths is a good player and will be a danger especially at free-kicks but dearie me, Shortbread are having a love in with their great hope.
I still don’t think he’d make that Barcelona team we beat mind you :)

Not sure what we should be thankful about he helped break the Bank of Scotland courtesy of his chums Masterton and Cummings and now we are picking up the tab.
Thankful no.

When my dad asked my grandad for my mums hand in marriage. .. there was some debate about which church we would be brought up in .
After much discussion and no agreement… stalemate.
They decided to toss a coin.
I like to think I would still be a jungle jim even if my dad had not won
The Boy Jinky
for a discerning chap like yourself there is only one team!

It’s difficult to predict what’s going to happen tomorrow. Celtic went into the infamous Ross County game on the back of some good league form after TM’s departure and it was much the same prior to St Mirren this season.
Wee but astute Gordon Strachan said – after a CL defeat – to win these games we need at least eight of our players at the top of their form. I very much hope that this arithmetic applies to Celtic and not to Hibs tomorrow.

I think the defining moment was when murray caved-in to the bhuns protesting outside ipox, spending £18m on the likes of davis etc ……. That was the point of no return….
Infrequent posted but avid lurker based in Phnom Penh.
46 years ago today I was 6 year old kid living in Blackhill.
I don’t really remember too much about the game but what has stuck with me to this day is the after game celebrations on the street of Blackhill.
Thousands of people marching, celebrating, singing Celtic songs for hours on end. It seemed to go on all late afternoon and into the night which im sure it did.
I can still remember it like it was yesterday, oh the joy, it brings a tear to my eyes when I think of it.
Oh how blessed we are to be part of this great football club, don’t know where I’d be without it.
Hail Hail to Paul67 and all the contributors to this wonderful insightful and educational website.
