CELTIC have been named as one of three clubs interested in £4million-rated Egyptian Mohamed Magdy.
Media reports have stated Ange Postecoglou has been eyeing the midfielder – better known as Afsha – with his club side Al Ahly reluctant to sell, but will find it difficult to reject a solid offer for their playmaker.
There is also Turkish interest with the player’s agent, Abdelrahman Ismail, telling a radio station in Egypt: “Besiktas, Galatasaray and Celtic are competing to sign Mohamed Magdy Afsha.”
WELCOME TO PARADISE…Canada right-back Alistair Johnston is on his way.
WELCOME TO PARADISE…Japanese Bhoy Yuki Kobayashi has signed a five-year deal.
Postecoglou, who brought in five players in his last January transfer window, has already been busy in sealing five-year contracts for right-back Alistair Johnston, a £3.5million recruit from MLS side CF Montreal, and centre-half Yuki Kobayashi, a free agent from J-League outfit Vissel Kobe.
He has also been linked with South Korea’s towering striker Cho Gue-sung as he looks to strengthen his attacking options.
Twenty-six-year-old Afsha has claimed 29 goals in 146 appearances for his club side and helped them to two Asian Champions League titles.
In January this year, Postecoglou unveiled three Japanese new Bhoys in Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate, Yusuke Ideguchi and added MK Dons midfielder Matt O’Riley, at a bargain £1.5million from the English third-tier club, and also £600,000 teenage striker Johnny Kenny from Sligo Rovers.
It looks as though he won’t be hanging around in next month’s window, either.
