Agents talk to the media when they are not talking to Celtic

1126

One of the problems of doing your business discretely is that if and when agents or selling clubs publicise your interest in their player, media attention has a tendency to attribute too much focus on the most recent name revealed.  Teemu Pukki is a player Celtic have been trailing for some months but the fact that his agent yesterday revealed their interest is no indication that he enjoys any pre-eminence over others strikers being considered.  If anything, briefings from the agent are an indication of the opposite.

Reports yesterday that Pukki is backup in case a bid for Finnbogason fails are also wide of the mark; this is not the active path Celtic are working on.  There are (at least) two other strikers under consideration, neither of whom have directly or indirectly leaked the discussions.

Nothing sells media adverts like transfer ‘news’, which is fair enough, but news is easier to find than the actual story. This is a ‘no news’ article, the easiest of all. No panicking in the back…

Lenny was a midfielder, scored 23 goals in a 21 year career

Garry Parker was a midfielder, scored 51 goals in an 18 year career

Johan Mjallby was a defender, scored 25 goals in a 17 year career

Danny McGrain was a defender, one of the world’s best, scored 4 goals in a 21 year career

Looking at the coaching set up below the first team, Chris McCart, Stephen Frail, Mio Krivokapic, all defenders as players. Stevie Woods of course is the goalkeeper coach.

Who teaches our young forwards how to create and score goals? Is there anyone at the club who knows, and is capable of teaching young pros, how to score?

Is this the riddle behind the mystery of the non-scoring enigmatic forward?

  8. I am not a religious person, but I would want to add that my thoughts and positive hope are sent to Oscar and his family.

Football is so bloody unimportant in the great scheme of things.

Aye you were a bit of a flouncer when I first came around here!! Quite what the Automobile Association has to do with it I don’t know ;-)

Many have gone from here and there are different reasons for that I guess, Mags departure came amid a flurry of sweary words and a few ideas which I didn’t agree with and thought they could have been delivered in a more subtle or blog way.

    Good point.

You watch videos of all these players we’re linked to and think – our players don’t score goals like that. There’s no defence splitting passes – I don’t know if that’s because our midfielders aren’t creative (which I don’t think any bar Commons are) or if that’s because the strikers don’t have the movement or make the runs to play passes into space.

    Probably a bit of both.

I like Brown and Ledley but neither seem to be capable of finding that through ball or defence splitting pass. Forrest is direct, which is good, but again he’s not the most creative.

  15. Dont B,

Where did Derk Diggler come from..

Only curious as I work with a guy with that name – Sud Afrikan.

Jock Stein was a no nonsense centre half [ my dad said he could clear the ball a fair distance with his knees].

Jimmy Mcgrory is the greatest goal scorer the club has ever had [and likely to have]

    Who was the greater coach?

    Re Jackson Irvine.

  19. TBB-Lenny’s 23 goals must have included the ones in the playground:}.I would like to see Chris Sutton back as a striker coach,we are also poor in the air and the big man could help us there too IMO.

  20. Awe naw-I don’t disagree,he could have went after the CL games, can’t imagine he’s on a big wage HH

  22. Firstly, hoping that wee Oscar and his family manage to overcome what will no doubt be most of our biggest battle in life.

Do not underestimate the value that some football teams can have however. Whilst there are more important things in life, look at it this way…

For many of us, Celtic was, is and will be a great form of escapism from some very tough individual lives and circumstance.

Attending a game, CQN, twitter etc can often lead to finding many a kindred spirit who you mostly class as a friend despite knowing only their moniker, twitter name or seat number.

If you can only make games at the pub then you can often find a new friend for the day/life.

And through a club that was established with such charitable roots, we can raise money to support kids and families such as wee Oscar, and try and help where we can.

And by using all of the above, we can raise money and spread awareness of many illnesses, and a good friend of mine St Martins Bhoy is often at the forefront of this.

Apologies for the rambling, and remember that there are some things in life that are important, but without my football club, and doing a lot of the above, mine would be diminished…

PS. Have we signed a striker yet?!

    Right, back to the tax…

  23. Next Wednesday I will give Ms Tally a big hug shortly after she lands at Pisa Airport, not having seen her since she turned 18 in January.

She was born with dislocated hips and spent three months – between the ages of 3-6 months – in a plaster from her waist to her ankles, minus a small opening at her front and rear bottom!

She has made an almost full recovery but still gets the occassional twinge and has to wear orthotics (inserts) in her shoes.

As parents we all hope that our children are born healthy, and go through life to reach adulthood.

It is at times like this that we should, indeed MUST, remember children like Oscar and his parents, siblings and all other family members and offer them all the support we possibly can.

    Puts everything else into perspective.

  24. Lovely wee dig from our Sammi talking about the resurgence of Aberdeen…
