Agents talk to the media when they are not talking to Celtic

1126

One of the problems of doing your business discretely is that if and when agents or selling clubs publicise your interest in their player, media attention has a tendency to attribute too much focus on the most recent name revealed.  Teemu Pukki is a player Celtic have been trailing for some months but the fact that his agent yesterday revealed their interest is no indication that he enjoys any pre-eminence over others strikers being considered.  If anything, briefings from the agent are an indication of the opposite.

Reports yesterday that Pukki is backup in case a bid for Finnbogason fails are also wide of the mark; this is not the active path Celtic are working on.  There are (at least) two other strikers under consideration, neither of whom have directly or indirectly leaked the discussions.

Nothing sells media adverts like transfer ‘news’, which is fair enough, but news is easier to find than the actual story. This is a ‘no news’ article, the easiest of all. No panicking in the back…

    TBB- we’re talking about seasoned, experienced professionals.

    So either their ability is innate, or it needs to be uncovered through a bit of the ole mindgames.

    Chris Sutton scored goals at every club he was at, apart from Chelsea. Goals at Stamford Bridge will be the same size.

    Sport at the top level [and even the SPL ] is played in the ole brainbox.

  2. Good afternoon folks.

    Just learned of the sad news that wee Oscar’s cancer has returned. I can’t even imagine what the wee fella’s Mum and Dad and rest of the family and friends are feeling at the moment.

    I don’t mind saying I had a wee tear in my eye there when I read the news.

    The wee man is a fighter and I send Oscar and his family all my love and positive thoughts and prayers in his battle against this terrible disease.

    God bless.

    Worked with the guy a few years ago, guess it was a nickname or AKA.

    A lot of the Sud Afrikan guys that came over keep a low profile, the stuff in Angola and Nanibia often ain’t on the aul resume.

    Very much looking forward to Aberdeen V celtic tomorrow. I will be going with a friend and his brother, along with my own brother, mum. mother in law, uncle and 2 sons…my own seat is a freebie but it’s costing me a small fortune to take my entourage.

    I’ve been banging on about Niall McGinn and have been castigated. Will be interesting to see how he performs tomorrow – and watch out for the much maligned Willo…

    I think it will be close, obviously want the Bhoys to win out but ifwe concede points – I’d prefer it to be to my 2nd team Aberdeen..

    Can’t disagree, but will point out that we habitually sign young players at the early stage of their career, when learning is the most important element of their development.

    Self-taught is no substitute for the absence of a good teacher.

    Humbly :¬)

    Liam Miller could be right, but loanees who come back and make adifference are few and far between.

    I hope Irvine makes it with us.

  11. Dontbrattbakkinanger on

    TBB- agreed, so we need to start the Vulkan mind meld at an early stage.

    Jock Stein used to insist on the nets being used at Barrowfield, because at every level of the game players love to see the ole onion bag bulgin’.

    So part of training skills is putting in place the attitude to allow you to execute your skills like in the ole claptrap days of Halcyon.

  12. DontB @ 14:15,

    Yeah! It’s amazing what goes on under the radar, it’s as if News organisations were selective on their reporting.

    Hail Hail

  13. seems to be plenty of tickets about for the game tomorow. usually they’re as rare as hens teeth for pittodrie?

    is that a sign that theres thousands of fans setting off in their cars and buses tomorow morning so they reach kazakhstan by tuesday :-)

    remember not to miss that sharp left turn just by turkmenistan or you will end up in kyrgyzstan. made that mistake many times, always ends in tears

  14. We all want a striker. Hopefully Paul67’s faith in the board is just.

    Outside of that I would want Ledley’s contract dealt with. Quality act.

    We need mineshafters on here-for instance,I was delighted to see my fellow Kilwinning Tim MICHAEL COLLINS on here earlier.

    SYDNEYTIM has opinions which make us think-today’s were badly expressed,and frankly wrong.

    MAGS,with the “wait n see whit the huns dae” is another example.

    We canny go through life thinking all the world is perfect,nor that everything is for the best in this best of all possible worlds.

    And you shouldnae shrink from being in place to remind us of that.

  16. Vinibhoy - Supporting Wee Oscar + Mackenzie on

    Re-post from earlier.

    Morning all,

    Feel empty after hearing the news about wee_oscar, completely agree with BRT this has got to stop. Too many innocent kids are suffering.

    The NHS either have to offer this treatment here or alternative methods that have worked for people need to be looked at. I’m always banging on about Vitamin B17 deficiency and a guy called Dr Burzynski. But after extensive research I’m convinced that the F D A + cancer mafia have started smear campaigns against both due to the fact that they can’t patent one and the latter will lose them billions.

    Jason Vale cured himself of cancer by eating apple pips and apricot kernals (B17). He tried to help others and the F D A had him arrested and he did 5 years. He was released on the condition that he didn’t promote this treatment.

    If anyone has time please watch the below films. They will be an eye opener.

    Big pharmaceutical companies have dictated what we can and cant use for too long, not for our sakes, it’s all about their profits. Billions of dolars can make people pretty heart-less.

  17. BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS on

    Firstly, hoping that wee Oscar and his family manage to overcome what will no doubt be most of our biggest battle in life.

    Do not underestimate the value that some football teams can have however. Whilst there are more important things in life, look at it this way…

    For many of us, Celtic was, is and will be a great form of escapism from some very tough individual lives and circumstance.

    Attending a game, CQN, twitter etc can often lead to finding many a kindred spirit who you mostly class as a friend despite knowing only their moniker, twitter name or seat number.

    If you can only make games at the pub then you can often find a new friend for the day/life.

    And through a club that was established with such charitable roots, we can raise money to support kids and families such as wee Oscar, and try and help where we can.

    And by using all of the above, we can raise money and spread awareness of many illnesses, and a good friend of mine St Martins Bhoy is often at the forefront of this.

    Apologies for the rambling, and remember that there are some things in life that are important, but without my football club, and doing a lot of the above, mine would be diminished…

    PS. Have we signed a striker yet?!

    Right, back to the tax…

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Correct,mate.
    Met more Celtic fans via here in the last year than elsewhere in the previous twenty.
    Every time,good Craic,loadsa discussion,and some nice opportunities taken for a dip into the pocket for a deserving cause.
    Truly a force for good. I think PAUL67 deserves a lot of credit for that alone.
    As do the drivers behind the efforts.
    just a thought, I never saw the original champions league squad, has Jackson Irvine freed up a place in said squad?…new player today?
  19. West Wales Celt on
    Yep Paul, we know that Finboggason ‘is not an ‘sctive path’. That, however, does not seem to be because he’s not the right player or because he can’t be afforded but apparently reflects our dithering and unwillingness to spend more than circa £2 million.
    The overall strategy might be sound but inflexible application is a huge concern…
  21. Great article again Paul. Maybe one of these days people will listen to you rather than the trashloids! We are one of the best, if not the best ran clubs in Europe.
    Sort out the problems with the fans, especially the Green Brigade and my love for ALL things Celtic will return to 100%
    Devastating news for the Knox family. My thoughts, prayers and positivity are being sent out for them.
    Does ‘under consideration’ mean ‘still pussyfooting about dithering over money’ ?
    Just get the deal done Celtic – whoever it is. Running out of time to get anyone in before the deadline for the Karagandy game. Neil Lennon said last weekend he hoped to have a couple in by Monday. I’d love to know who’s fault it is that this never happened.
    Being remote from Celtic/Scotland/family leaves you with a rather large gap to bridge. I think that over time. The exile stays the same while subtle changes take place.
    I truly believe that is what has happened with CQN and Celtic AND me if you catch my drift.
    I am not religious or follow any political dogma. I used Celtic as an ersatz. My mistake granted. I am left to wonder when it all really changed exactly.
    I am 20 year behind the scene now.
    Its a shame. I honestly believe that what makes us special has been thrown away under DDs stewardship.
    When I read on here regularly how many Celtic fans think and what they believe I have to say not for me. Not how I was brought up.
    I blame my Ma and Jock Stein
    I think its best to talk about Celtic with other exiles. It allows us to remain in our idyllic beliefs of the past.
    At least we all know the truth now. Well those brave enough to countenance it. Thats easier for an exile to do and to see the stark differences .
