Agents talk to the media when they are not talking to Celtic

1126

One of the problems of doing your business discretely is that if and when agents or selling clubs publicise your interest in their player, media attention has a tendency to attribute too much focus on the most recent name revealed.  Teemu Pukki is a player Celtic have been trailing for some months but the fact that his agent yesterday revealed their interest is no indication that he enjoys any pre-eminence over others strikers being considered.  If anything, briefings from the agent are an indication of the opposite.

Reports yesterday that Pukki is backup in case a bid for Finnbogason fails are also wide of the mark; this is not the active path Celtic are working on.  There are (at least) two other strikers under consideration, neither of whom have directly or indirectly leaked the discussions.

Nothing sells media adverts like transfer ‘news’, which is fair enough, but news is easier to find than the actual story. This is a ‘no news’ article, the easiest of all. No panicking in the back…

Disagree. Bang for buck. Historically we,are atrocious comparing with other companies with a comparative turnover. In terms of European trophies comparitively the worst in Europe apart from Rangers I.

It’s not just the exile angle. It’s an age one too. You need to also remember that there’s now adults debating the game that have only even known football as a relentlessly commercial enterprise.

    Hi hoopy-do,

My wife comes from Kyrgyzstan! :-) I think it’s a great place, but then there’s a huge difference when being welcomed to these places and being chaperoned and shown around its best bits as a member of family, rather than visiting as a tourist or someone who has got lost! :-) (Well, except maybe the sheep’s head on a plate thing! :-) )

    Yours in Celtic,

You can get it on the Sky platform for extra dosh (payable directly to BT) so if the establishment has signed up no worries.

    From BT website:

You’ll need “BT Sport for business”, our offering for commercial premises. This commercial sports subscription lets you legally televise BT Sport to your customers or staff.

I have been blessed in my life as a Celtic fan-not only in witnessing most of the glory years of Jock Stein and the scintillating stuff we played under Davie Hay and Tommy Burns.

I was there when Billy gave us back our self respect in 79,and in 88 too

I was also lucky to be living in England from 90-96. So I missed most of the years of utter humiliation.

I don’t think that staying outside Scotland makes you an uber-Tim

It just makes you someone who is dead keen to see The Hoops.

By all means ask questions-that is why we are here,ffs-but constant naysaying is turning you into the boy who cried wolf.

Cheer us on the morra, cheer us on in midweek. We all know the problems, and blogs like this highlight it to those who think everything in the garden is rosy

But life ain’t like that,AWE NAW.

Much as we would like it to be.

Mitre and Adidas have commissioned a piece of work to determine why their size 5 professional footballs seem more attracted to certain individuals in the crowd.

Early indicators suggest its due to a chemical reaction between the silicone protective coating on the ball and the extreme alcohol vapour.

Sky have suggested its down to the players targeting the ugliest gits in the crowd.

    Either seems reasonable to me.

    Afternoon Bhoys and Ghirls

A wee update on my request earlier this morning for us to change our monikers for this weekend only in support of Wee Oscar and his family.

Due to a couple of very kind hearted CQNers we are now up to £4.40 per unique moniker (capped at £1,100) that is registered before 6pm this Sunday and has Wee Oscar in their name.

The money will go direct to the family, who are both not working at this difficult time as they need to spend their full day with Wee Oscar and Izzie.

Up to you Bhoys & Ghirls to make this happen!

Also the CQN predictor for MacKenzie Furniss has burst through the magic number of 67! A big thank you and still not too late to join!

God Bless Wee Oscar, MacKenzie and their families

  18. I am (yet again) struggling to understand those posters who are towing the “get the deal done Celtic!” line re: a new striker.

    1. Clearly NL wants another striker. And clearly there is some work going on to achieve this goal.

    2. If you think that Celtic should be “paying whatever”, or are somehow justifying spending more money on a player becuase we sold a few players, that strategy is going to hurt is in the long term.

Why do you think transfer fees are so inflated in England (or at Monaco or PSG) – becuase the selling clubs know the buyer has cash to burn. If Celtic suddenly start buying in the £4-£6m range are we actually going to be buying £4m-£6m value players? No. The seller is just raising the price becuase they know thats what we can afford.

In order to MAINTAIN our competitiveness within our current football environment we MUST maintain spending at a relatively (to the major European leagues) low level on a player by player basis.

Its my honest belief that continuous cheer leading is for huns.

It is difficult for me to let go of the once in a lifetime chance we had to get a level playing field.

I tend not to comment on the financial aspect recently because I dont contribute.

CQN was initially about Celtic quick news not lazy journalism which I feel you are inhibiting with your cheerleading stance.

I will never watch Celtic in another domestic game ever again.

Yes it is nothing but morbid curiosity that is keeping mě posting.

A slow čar crash. Not from a tín cup or another million pound profit point of view but from an Old Firm point of view.

I dont want to be party

Celtic dont seem to be any different from any othet corrupt UNTRANSPARENT club around Europe expect about how good we are ať boasting about our charitable exploits.

Aw Naw – working in Germany and Holland at the start of the 90’s, sitting in Mulligans in the Dam and got talking to a wee Tim who was married to a Dutch girl and lived there. This was pre-Fergus and the guy wouldn’t hear a bad word said against the “custodians”!

The club was almost on its knees and getting worse by the day, under the stewardship of these great Celtic men.

Even though I told this guy that most fans back home wanted them out, he just wasn’t having it. He was completely out of touch with the majority of the support.

The difference today, is the Internet and sites like this great blog which keeps overseas fans up to speed with what is happening at the club. You might not like the mostly pro-board stance, but there’s a broad spectrum of Hoops sites to choose from.

Bottom line is, things move on and the club needs to evolve whilst trying to retain the original ethos. I doubt if that’s entirely possible, so the fans home & abroad need to ask themselves what kind of club they want. The vast majority want out of Scotland and a return to the top table in Europe. Realistically, what do people think that will take and are they prepared to compromise their principles in the process?

Whether we like it or not, money talks!
