AGM ahead

974

Are you looking forward to the AGM tomorrow? As always on these occasions, the questions after the votes will be far more interesting than the formal business of the day. The Living Wage appears on the agenda for the third year, courtesy of the Trust. Celtic now pay at or above Living Wage rates, although they have not signed up to the Foundation and the pay increase for lower-waged members of staff was accompanied with the withdrawal of a discretionary bonus.

Not sure what the cost of this was, or the impact on staff, but we’ll no doubt hear about it tomorrow. I should also say that I’m not signed up to the Living Wage Foundation either, as it has no relevance for my business.

The performance of the team (imperious domestically, impervious to improvement in Europe) will be the central concern from the hall. Celtic are a Champions League club, this is our focus. We need to be competing on that platform regularly.

I expect, and hope, shareholders get an update on Resolution 12, which looks increasingly relevant. You can bet questions will also be asked on whether or not there was a conspiracy to break tax, SPL and SFA rules, and to subvert an SPL Commission.

There’s not a great deal Celtic can say on this matter for now, beyond their statement last week.

Many thanks to Jim Craig and Brendan Sweeney for joining us on the blog last night. These events see the blog at its best and last night’s was no exception. You can buy Brendan’s book, Celtic: The Early Years, or Alex Gordon’s latest, The Winds of Change, Managing Celtic from 1991-2005, at the CQN Bookstore.

Hamiltontim …. dont be saying that, or I’ll never get that beer from TD67 when I’m over! :)

  2. Canamalar I know and understand why you are angry around the despair the rest of us feel at the board and the cheating etc etc. I of course hope and Pray res 12 succeeds.

But if Celtic were going to act they should have done so by now. I think they are cowards who are hiding behind you.

In fact cowards is being do far to kind. They are traitors. They are betraying us.

I have just read bankiers clarification. I am sorry to swear but he is a dick. Right up there with King.

Why on earth should we put up with these arseholes.

Withdraw our support and force their resignation.

Bankiers if you are reading this you couldn’t tie the laces of the Celtic support. You are nothing short of pathetic. You have never had anything to say and offer us nothing.

Your desperation to criticise the Celtic support defines you.

You are nothing to us and by hook or by crook we will be rid of you.

What you did today was criminal racism and a blatant pathetic attempt to discredit the questioning of supporters. That you will go out of your way to betray the ethos of Celtic whilst saying nothing of the actual racism prevelant I. Scottish football says it all.

You are less than nothing but you are a stain on what Celtic stands for.

    He could have abstained!

Why would he? he is a Tory peer, he believes in what he voted for

  4. Another PR disaster from our board, according to some on here we have a bunch of professional businessmen at the helm of our club/company.

Doesn’t look that way to me, perhaps Bankier was a bit rattled? Has he started defending his statement yet? Sorry mate, you just got toasted and I hope you enjoyed your last Celtic AGM.

  5. bankier was a disgrace to day and not for

if any of my family acted the way he did

    i would be ashamed.

the last decent chairman we had was

what can we expect when they are

Mr.Bankier and Livingstone do not share the same views of most of the Celtic support and the support continue to support charity in the same fashion our club was founded. The Chairman obviously has an agenda wither it is only his or is shared by the rest of the board is anyones guess. H.H.

  7. He is completely out of touch from not just Celtic fans but normal working people. He looked down on everyone on the floor today literally and figuratively

  8. Bankier says we are the best in football as supporters with the best of values, despite his earlier comments on us being criminally racist.

Are you all willing to put up with this idiot?

  9. The ruling classes do what they have always done, spread lies Mr Bankier and look after your own. You are so far removed from the Celtic support I grew up with and developed with it’s unreal. Don’t lie about us you charlatan. Perhaps you’ll regale us with tales of your summit with Mr Cameron days before the Indy Ref…or maybe not.

What do you think is more likely they are highly rated professional businessman worth millions/billions or you are wrong??

  11. And Celtic love to talk about charity. But only if it’s the supporters money and not their money. They are taking the credit for your charitable acts and donations.

As the burnistoun lads would say. My blood is up!

  12. Whitedoghunch,

    Michelin make tyres,

But you might have a point, maybe in two years they might manage to make something that actually tastes good, it’s no impossible, I suppose.

Got to ask, how do you get a job like that ?

I mean I’ve tried the food in a couple of place you recommended and to be perfectly honest, nothing you recommended actually made me sit up and go WOW but everything made me go, how much, are you having a laugh ?

I suppose food snobbery is a bastion of the talentless, being told by other people what tastes good is stupidity personified. Paying over the odds for it or even paying for it, well you’ve made it quite clear it’s not something you subscribe to so I suppose its easy to make recommendations for bland food when it costs nothing eh, wonder where the pigeons are eating tonight, I hear they’ve got a favorite maze run on Byres road, by all accounts a Dunlop 3 star coming in five years.

Oh and had spagetti n cheese from a Michelin 3star geezer and he told me it was his best dish but the snobs would cruicify him if he served it in one of his resteraunts, it’s amazin who you meet in boozers innit.

  16. My friends in Celtic,

Like others I want the best for Celtic. Both on and off the park . I want the best people that endeavour to enable that to become reality ; regardless of background or position.

I do not want to see the class war being fought via our club.

Our club : Open to all, regardless.

    HH.

PS : Some may say that we already have the class war at Parkhead with the champagne socialists enjoying the privileges that corporate hospitality and Investor lounges can entail. Me, I’d rather eat cake.

  17. Reading some of the comments I am somewhat surprised that some who still hold romantic notions about the founding Celtic Football Club 1887 don’t breakaway and resurrect a football club that would hold dear the original ethos values and social conscience of the original founders. The original Celtic Football club perished sometime in 1897. Just think you could have the team run out in white tops black shorts with the original club crest emblazoned with 1887 thereon. You could have as many fans as you want on the board and make sure that the players run out to roll of honour blasting from the sound system, while making sure that they have attended mass the previous Sunday and been at devotions during the week. You can also make sure that any player joining the club accepts that they will only receive the living wage for the privilege of playing for the club. You can ensure that any fan group that crosses the threshold is indoctrinated with socialist and political values that reflect your own before they are permitted entry ad nausea my.And as a final sweetener you could have written into the constitution of the club ,due to your high moral stance on tax avoidance, never to play against the Huns again

    OR

You can support a modern day football club and move forward and get on with it

Ps word reaches me of two fan groups having a little tete a tete in Dingwall recently can’t be true can it

  18. The huddle. So you like to doff your cap to the wealthy do you?

You happy with a board member who ants to rob from the poor? You happy with Celtic supporters being branded criminally racist then?

Maybe you agree with bankier? Please explain.

  19. Greenpinta it seems to me that you believe we are not even a football club just a business. Should Celtic change their strapline to “just a business” rather than the more than a club claptrap?

I share your anger at Bankier and Livingstone and want them removed from the board but lets not use a scatter gun approach.H.H.

What part do some of you not get, we are owned and controlled by a proper billionaire, we pay our players more in a week than many earn in a year, the only people who still believe in the Celtic ethos are the supporters, the Club is now a business, get over it

    —————-

    Bingo

  26. Now,I have no time for Bankier.Only time seen is at AGMs.Does nothing for the club,as far as any fans can see.Totally invisible.

That said, what I will say now,is that the hunting pack after his blood, should take a step back, and stop barking up the wrong tree.By all means, criticize, argue with, and argue against his running of the club.Thats what fans/shareholders are for.Do not go out on a limb for things you know nothing about. When Bankier says, that Livingstone recieved sectarian abuse, many fans howled him down. This is what he said

“The messages posted, in quite a few cases are criminally racist and in all cases the vocabulary chosen is base and highly abusive.”

To come up with the pathetic riposte, that most fans had no idea he was Jewish,is a ridiculous arguement in this day and age of the internet. We know there are some among us who are moronic.Fact of life,I am afraid. There were quite a few against Nir Biton, because of his beliefs.I have no doubts the man was sent racist messages by whatever means, which is totally disgraceful.

There are many things wrong with the present board.Go after these.Do not go after things that we should be ashamed of.I dont like Bankier, never met him.I dont like Livingstone, never met him either, but my dislike for him is his politics.I could say the same for about another 800 MPs,and Lords in Britain, but Bankier is right in one thing he says,

“We are supposed to be a club open to all”Funny how some Celtic fans use this as a badge of honour, only when it suits them.

Anyway, the shits over for me,what I love about Celtic will take the field tomorrow at 3’O’Clock.

The independent Living Wage Foundation is a non-statutory body which aims to make wages match the cost of living has been adopted by around 380 firms across Scotland.

However, Mr Bankier said on Friday that it is not in the interest of Celtic shareholders to have its wage policy “directed by a non-statutory body”.

He said: “It’s not in the interests of Celtic to sign up to the living wage because the Living Wage Foundation is a non-statutory body. It’s a complex area for government to balance out all the factors.

“It’s important to us we can run the business and the club for the benefit of all the shareholders and it’s just not in the interest of the shareholders to have wage policy, an important part of our cost base, directed by a non-statutory body.

    =======================================================================

What reasonable person could disagree with that policy?

  28. I had to laugh at the latest new compare (meerkat) advert… Coronation street desolate an upturned police car and zombie meerkats.

Manchester reminiscing of a plague of zombies from a few years ago!

  29. Bhoys, no point on turning on your own. For me the disconnect is sore, I fully understand the business arguments, signing and transfer policies, the social aspect of our club but there is a huge disconnect.

it needs healed and today the Chairman drove another wedge between the board and the support.

    HH

  30. mike in toronto on

macjay …. I should have said ‘me…. and a more reasonable person you will never meet’…. :)

  31. The huddle. Successful businessmen. What do you man like David Murray? Or maybe Fred Goodwin? That what you mean? You mean like the guys who want to rob the poor of their tax credits to line the pockets of the rich? Or maybe those that won’t pay the living wage dos it’s not in the interests of their shareholder (or should we just say dermot Desmond and be done with it).

That what you mean by successful businessmen?

Or maybe you mean presiding over a football club that is going in ever decreasing circles, that wants the return of bigotry cos that’s good for business isn’t it?

Or maybe it’s corruption that makes them successful, just like corruption made the Huns successful and that this board of successful business,en are propping up? That what you mean?

Or maybe they are successful cos they love to talk about charity when it’s the supporters who give the money to charity?

So you tell me what successful means huddle? Is it just making money at any cost?

  32. I know nothing about Bankier but if I was at the AGM,when his parting shot to shareholders was now go and mind and behave yourselves,I would had let him know what I thought of him.Adults walked out of that meeting being treated like lemmings.

Today was the second time I have heard him comment on any thing related to Celtic,I hope I don’t hear a third

    Comment ,unless it is goodbye.

  33. Macjay….I got The Answer…Lets Pay ABOVE the Living Wage….We Set The Wage..Pay More Than the Gov Recomend..Then We Would Be More Than A Club…LEADERS…
