AGM ahead

974

Are you looking forward to the AGM tomorrow? As always on these occasions, the questions after the votes will be far more interesting than the formal business of the day. The Living Wage appears on the agenda for the third year, courtesy of the Trust. Celtic now pay at or above Living Wage rates, although they have not signed up to the Foundation and the pay increase for lower-waged members of staff was accompanied with the withdrawal of a discretionary bonus.

Not sure what the cost of this was, or the impact on staff, but we’ll no doubt hear about it tomorrow. I should also say that I’m not signed up to the Living Wage Foundation either, as it has no relevance for my business.

The performance of the team (imperious domestically, impervious to improvement in Europe) will be the central concern from the hall. Celtic are a Champions League club, this is our focus. We need to be competing on that platform regularly.

I expect, and hope, shareholders get an update on Resolution 12, which looks increasingly relevant. You can bet questions will also be asked on whether or not there was a conspiracy to break tax, SPL and SFA rules, and to subvert an SPL Commission.

There’s not a great deal Celtic can say on this matter for now, beyond their statement last week.

Many thanks to Jim Craig and Brendan Sweeney for joining us on the blog last night. These events see the blog at its best and last night’s was no exception. You can buy Brendan’s book, Celtic: The Early Years, or Alex Gordon’s latest, The Winds of Change, Managing Celtic from 1991-2005, at the CQN Bookstore.

The huddle. Successful businessmen. What do you man like David Murray? Or maybe Fred Goodwin? That what you mean? You mean like the guys who want to rob the poor of their tax credits to line the pockets of the rich? Or maybe those that won’t pay the living wage dos it’s not in the interests of their shareholder (or should we just say dermot Desmond and be done with it).

That what you mean by successful businessmen?

Or maybe you mean presiding over a football club that is going in ever decreasing circles, that wants the return of bigotry cos that’s good for business isn’t it?

Or maybe it’s corruption that makes them successful, just like corruption made the Huns successful and that this board of successful business,en are propping up? That what you mean?

Or maybe they are successful cos they love to talk about charity when it’s the supporters who give the money to charity?

So you tell me what successful means huddle? Is it just making money at any cost?

Jesus man you need to find another hobby, I can see the veins from here.

Successful businessman is someone who makes money often (and legally).

Less is more my man, I couldn’t be bothered reading all of that.

  3. Joe fillipi I dunno about Ronnie but that one grand donation from PL equated with a tenth of the extra super duper bonus that Celtic awarded him last year.

Celtic love to tell us how great they are. I mean Paul told us we were the most ethical club in the world. What absolute total bullshit. No living wage. Told we are criminally racist, taking credit for charity by the fans, wanting bigotry, taking part in corruption.

Oh wow they are so ethical it hurts.

    Thanks for that info…

I think you guys are doing a great deal of work & you are correct re your safety !.

Tha is my point in all these things..,if it was dealing with eh ‘normal’ clubs res 12 would not have been required.

I will be supporting you guys & Hail Hail

This is nearly 2016. Football clubs are a business. Maybe unfortunate, but true nevertheless.

While we remember our past we must look to the future. We need the best on and off the park regardless of background to ensure that this happens.

To reitterate : Let the team do the talking on the park, and the Foundation off it.

    HH.

PS : Do you think there is any hypocrisy of those who frequent the best parts of the stadium that money can buy, drinking champagne at half time criticizing the Tory board members ?

NEGANON2. Surely its not about how much our CEO or manager earn to donate a thousand pounds shows me they are decent blokes they didnt have to give anything but they did. A lot of what you write makes sense but you in my opinion always end up over egging it. H.H.

I doffed my cap to the four of you bhoys when you first mentiond challenging them with resolution twelve.

I find it quite sad that they asked for names as it will be used as their get out if they are not disclosed.

I’m sure I’m one and would have no problem with my name being given, as I have battled and tormented them since their bigotry slapped me in the face as a sixteen year old apprentice in Barr & Strouds.

I do realise others are in a different ballpark from me and don’t need the hassle of Hun morons.

Hail Hail to you and the fabulous four.

Can Celtic be all inclusive AND have a support which demands the dismissal of someone because he supports Tory policy?

No.As much as I hate Tories.

Just caught up with the agm.

    Mmmmmm.

So our chairman has accused the Celtic support of being criminally racist. Does he have the evidence of such criminal racism?

    ===============================================================

What evidence do you have for your scurrilous accusation?

    I assumed he was joking??

  16. Looks like someone had a word with that bankier. From the Club website:

CELTIC Chairman Ian Bankier has thanked shareholders for their attendance and contribution at today’s Annual General Meeting, and following media coverage of the event, he has also clarified remarks which he made during the AGM.

“I would like to thank all our shareholders and supporters who attended today’s AGM. As ever, we enjoyed a healthy exchange of views and yet again it was fantastic to see the passion for all that is going on around our great Club.

“Already there has been some media coverage of my comments relating to Ian Livingston and his proposed re-appointment and much of it has been wildly exaggerated and taken totally out of context.

“I have not branded our supporters racist and it is outrageous to suggest that I would ever do that. I was only referring to a small number of specific comments which have been made on social media, which I believe are unacceptable, and I know Celtic supporters would agree with me.

“Celtic supporters are the lifeblood of the Club and I am delighted to say the best in football, with the best of values.

“I thank everyone again for attending today’s AGM to express their views.”

Or, in other words, there are thousands already staying away, why chase away even more?

    Clown.

    Before this snowballs….

Bankier said Livingston has had some abuse of a racist nature. Some of it ‘criminally racist’.

For anyone looking in and only reading snapshots he DID NOT say the CELTIC SUPPORT are racist.

    No,pal.

You see that just conflicts with the agenda of those who are desperate to vilify members of our Board based on distorting what was actually said.

They probably learned that trick from the M.S.M.

Incidentally,it has snowballed, with the assistance of some you would expect would know better.

  18. MACJAY…..You Still Havnt Answered my Suggestion That We Pay MORE than The Living Wage To Show Me Are More Than A Club…We Are Leaders….Why Cant we Do That….Just Asking…
