AGM ahead

974

Are you looking forward to the AGM tomorrow? As always on these occasions, the questions after the votes will be far more interesting than the formal business of the day. The Living Wage appears on the agenda for the third year, courtesy of the Trust. Celtic now pay at or above Living Wage rates, although they have not signed up to the Foundation and the pay increase for lower-waged members of staff was accompanied with the withdrawal of a discretionary bonus.

Not sure what the cost of this was, or the impact on staff, but we’ll no doubt hear about it tomorrow. I should also say that I’m not signed up to the Living Wage Foundation either, as it has no relevance for my business.

The performance of the team (imperious domestically, impervious to improvement in Europe) will be the central concern from the hall. Celtic are a Champions League club, this is our focus. We need to be competing on that platform regularly.

I expect, and hope, shareholders get an update on Resolution 12, which looks increasingly relevant. You can bet questions will also be asked on whether or not there was a conspiracy to break tax, SPL and SFA rules, and to subvert an SPL Commission.

There’s not a great deal Celtic can say on this matter for now, beyond their statement last week.

Many thanks to Jim Craig and Brendan Sweeney for joining us on the blog last night. These events see the blog at its best and last night’s was no exception. You can buy Brendan’s book, Celtic: The Early Years, or Alex Gordon’s latest, The Winds of Change, Managing Celtic from 1991-2005, at the CQN Bookstore.

So Celtic should sell ST’s at half price. If you buy 10 say. Good deal.

    For every tenner a fiver.

Or invite Campbells into Celtic Park instead of ladbrokes.

    I’m just saying. :)

In my humble opinion the distance between ordinary supporters and the Board has never been greater.. More depressingly I fear this is a trend that will only get worse… God knows what link between club and fans will be in 5 years time.

I think the majority of fans only care about whats happening on the pitch and wouldn’t even have cared that there was an AGM today.

Do good on pitch fans happy do bad fans unhappy.

    Simple really

My belief is that it’s the board who foist politics on us on many occasions. I’ve got involved in things over the years that I would much rather I didn’t need to but it’s the action/inaction of the Plc have made me feel that something needs to be done.

True but that depends on the yardstick you use to measure success on the pitch…?

  5. WITS,

Blew them out, don’t work for minimum wage or bare my arse for a suit, leave them kind of sacrifices for you guys in the stalls.

  6. The only thing that will derail the MSM anti Celtic agenda will be if the Orcs crash at Livingston tomorrow, you know what? I think they will.

I see that Warbo is snubbing job offers from all over England , well that is the implication in our rags, this is good news.

I like Warburton, he seems like a decent sort, I am sure if he had a sudden attack of idiocy he may even hang about Glasgow long enough to become a fully paid up member of the WATP gang. I hop for his sake he gets out soon, I think he may even be hanging about long enough for Big Mike to take over and hand him this mythical war chest.

  7. I think the fact many have voiced their opinion in wishing for Livingstons removal in respect of politics, shows an unhealthy intolerance. While Bankier’s comments were ill judged & unquestionably inflamatory the outrage they have caused in my view has been disproportionate & well OTT. No doubt in my mind he wasn’t taking aim at the Celtic support as a whole but a tiny minority. However no matter how small the number may be, I think it’s right to expose such intolerance. Our club is not an exclusive one its diversity makes us who we are. Some fans would do well to remember that.

MACJAY…..You Still Havnt Answered my Suggestion That We Pay MORE than The Living Wage To Show Me Are More Than A Club…We Are Leaders….Why Cant we Do That….Just Asking…

    Sorry,pal.

Early morn. and just posting as I came across stuff of interest.

No problem whatsoever with your suggestion.

    Just one issue.

The Celtic Board must decide the wage rates of their employees, not ANY external body, with the exception of the govt. and minimum wage.

The issue for the Celtic Trust is,as far as I am concerned one of self interest and finding an “Issue” with which they can run.

Some time back,it was “a supporter on the Board.”……………………presumably one of their own. However ,if the C.T. get their way then I would like to volunteer to be that supporter.

That would be fine with you,Hamilton ??????

    :-)

I haven’t told mini that I’m not renewing her ticket but I’m sure the Plc will tell her she isn’t wanted if the dead return

  12. Macjay

We (The Celtic Trust) have no desire to be on the board. We do want supporter representation.

    After today who could disagree?

Mini will be at st Michaels tomorrow at 12.30

I won’t because there would be no love

  14. Yet….none of the PLC managed to say a word about the biggest bigots and cheats in world football.

    What a surprise eh.

I genuinely find your comment on the LW issue being something we can run with deeply insulting mate.

We’ve put an incredible amount of work into getting it on the AGM agenda. The simple reason is because every single person on that committee feels passionately that not paying it is the antithesis of our ethos.

  16. Jist realised…..Bankier let loose a squirrel & we fell for it…..livi of Parkhead is still there…..for now…..was there a shareholder poll lol ;-))

I’ll wait for the evidence. Surely you can see the almost conciliatory tone in the statement compared to his initial comments.

  19. This is not a happy place…we do have a game tomorrow.

Ignore the MSM tomorrow, in fact ignore every day you will feel better. They have no interest in Celtic doing well, acting correctly or progressing. Their agenda is pre ordained, written into their contract.

At times, our club and the Plc deliver them a free page, we allow ourselves to be the piñata at the birthday party, self inflicted wounds are the worst to explain and the longest to heal.

Stay together, keep in formation and we will prevail, remember who we are and what we have achieved, there is a very good reason why we are feared. When we get it right, we get it seriously right.

    Hail! Hail!

  20. The Green Man

I think you will find that Celtic did comment on the COS decision by saying they noted it and the fact that it was still open to appeal. What do you want them to do? Also Peter Lawwell said today, and I paraphrase, just because we are not shouting our mouths off like TGASL it doesn’t mean we aren’t making our position known.
