AGM ahead

974

Are you looking forward to the AGM tomorrow? As always on these occasions, the questions after the votes will be far more interesting than the formal business of the day. The Living Wage appears on the agenda for the third year, courtesy of the Trust. Celtic now pay at or above Living Wage rates, although they have not signed up to the Foundation and the pay increase for lower-waged members of staff was accompanied with the withdrawal of a discretionary bonus.

Not sure what the cost of this was, or the impact on staff, but we’ll no doubt hear about it tomorrow. I should also say that I’m not signed up to the Living Wage Foundation either, as it has no relevance for my business.

The performance of the team (imperious domestically, impervious to improvement in Europe) will be the central concern from the hall. Celtic are a Champions League club, this is our focus. We need to be competing on that platform regularly.

I expect, and hope, shareholders get an update on Resolution 12, which looks increasingly relevant. You can bet questions will also be asked on whether or not there was a conspiracy to break tax, SPL and SFA rules, and to subvert an SPL Commission.

There’s not a great deal Celtic can say on this matter for now, beyond their statement last week.

Many thanks to Jim Craig and Brendan Sweeney for joining us on the blog last night. These events see the blog at its best and last night’s was no exception. You can buy Brendan’s book, Celtic: The Early Years, or Alex Gordon’s latest, The Winds of Change, Managing Celtic from 1991-2005, at the CQN Bookstore.

It is the colour green. Smells of lemon and has my mind in a beautiful haze tonight.

    Peace and love.

  2. I agree someways on the Ian Livingstone political views being anti Celtic

I don’t remember (but I could be very wrong here ) if I ever heard such a big demonstration against a Celtic chairman who supported the killing of hundreds of thousands in an illegal war

  3. I think there has been a total distortion by some on here of what Bankier actually said. He did not say Celtic supporters were racist. He claimed that some comments on social media were “criminally racist”. As I said earlier, while I haven’t read anything of that nature, judging by CQN, plenty seem to indulge in over the top comment in cyberspace. Paul67 was talking recently of the old ad hominem argument. Plenty of that on here.

Delaney’s, sorry I never got back to you last night about Pat Stanton.

He did a very good job for us that season and I was pleased Pat completed his collection of winners medals with us.

Like Griff, he will always be a Hibee, but Pat did a great job for us. Settled big Rod the Nod when he played beside him.

On iPad, how come now when I view Roy Croppies attachments, and come out, it takes me back to top of page, and not where I was ?

Also, if hitting any time stamp to refresh, not taking me to the last post at time stamp ?

Has settings been changed ? I logged in on the log in box on the page, and not the log in button, which takes you to a separate log in page, is this the difference ?

    Thanks Bhud

  8. Ah now it’s just getting silly.

The White/Kelly board being held up as a model for real fan and club engagement. I must have missed all the great things that board did, and it’s antecedents, before the carpetbagger Fergus McCann showed up and imposed his dictatorial Plc on the unwilling fans.

Roy, marvellous music ( thick as thieves especially )and photos tonight , thank you.

My favourites were the Hearts 4 3 game and Mark Reid’s last minute penalty in the league cup final

    Mate.

Just so I make myself clear.

The ONLY reason I take issue with these matters is because I think your campaign harms Celtic.

    You,of course,disagree.

I would hope you don`t take my comments personally.

    Just read back.

Some of the vilification directed towards our Board is,for me,nauseating.

Do you think this does not harm Celtic?

I can`t imagine why people continue to support an organisation run by people they abhor.

    Hypocricy?

Do they seriously think they`re going to change things?

    I would doubt it.

  13. A massive OG by Bankier today. If you are going to make allegations of racist criminality by our supporters you better be able to back it up with evidence. If not its time to go. Adios Mr Bankier.

  14. Dallas

Big Roddie’s mum in law lived in the houses opposite Scotstounhill station. Gerry O’Neil and I used to hang about her house till one day we met him and got his autograph. Lovely giant soft spoken man.

    I was being sarcastic.

The tripe about Sir Robert Kelly turning in his grave and the tricolour being taken down was just too much hyperbole to stomach.

Fergus McCann was a hero in my eyes. An unashamedly capitalist bassa but the saviour of Celtic. I wish I had had £20m to put up in 1994 all I had was my £600 and have never regretted my decision.

  16. One of the great delights of You Tube is when you come across a song you have not heard since your teenage years. I loved and still love the intro on this one

    Carol Grimes

I didn’t know we had a Head of PR- far less that he had written the Bio of Cheap Trick (unfortunate co-incidence rather than truly ironic). I kind of liked this song though they were not a cool band to like

Livi’s alright, Bankiers alright- they just seem a little weird

  17. Could I change the last bit to two!

I went three years without a season book for myself and my kids until a couple of years ago…reason being I lost tax credits due to my income, as a single parent with two kids working full time and any overtime going, I managed that escape time and it was our special day every second week.

Now we have a man on our board that voted to make it even harder for people that is still in that situation not to be able to attend games.

Another board member gives the smsm ammunition to slaughter us. Wtf.

Is the Celtic Trust a Political pressure group or Celtic supporters ?…..I have my doubts about them being Celtic supporters, since they seem to major in non-football orientated controversy, at every AGM ….as far as I’m concerned they are a bunch of political activists who should head for speaker’s corner if they want to share their political views …….or they could always join their local PTA if they have so much time on their hands ……and they seem to think they represent all Celtic supporters …. Pathetic really, I’m afraid…….

Delaney’s. big Rod was Sean Fallon’s next door neighbour in Kings Park and Frank McGarvey stayed about six houses up also.
