AGM ahead

974

Are you looking forward to the AGM tomorrow? As always on these occasions, the questions after the votes will be far more interesting than the formal business of the day. The Living Wage appears on the agenda for the third year, courtesy of the Trust. Celtic now pay at or above Living Wage rates, although they have not signed up to the Foundation and the pay increase for lower-waged members of staff was accompanied with the withdrawal of a discretionary bonus.

Not sure what the cost of this was, or the impact on staff, but we’ll no doubt hear about it tomorrow. I should also say that I’m not signed up to the Living Wage Foundation either, as it has no relevance for my business.

The performance of the team (imperious domestically, impervious to improvement in Europe) will be the central concern from the hall. Celtic are a Champions League club, this is our focus. We need to be competing on that platform regularly.

I expect, and hope, shareholders get an update on Resolution 12, which looks increasingly relevant. You can bet questions will also be asked on whether or not there was a conspiracy to break tax, SPL and SFA rules, and to subvert an SPL Commission.

There’s not a great deal Celtic can say on this matter for now, beyond their statement last week.

Many thanks to Jim Craig and Brendan Sweeney for joining us on the blog last night. These events see the blog at its best and last night’s was no exception. You can buy Brendan’s book, Celtic: The Early Years, or Alex Gordon’s latest, The Winds of Change, Managing Celtic from 1991-2005, at the CQN Bookstore.

Just in from hospital after knee op , had a wee reaction after coming around but ok now .

Thanks for all the messages earlier and COME ON YOU BHOYS IN GREEN

  2. The judgment has been made, they cheated. It is all up for discussion. The Board will stonewall the issue tomorrow, saying there might be an appeal, there might not be an appeal.

Incidentally, I had a knee operation several years ago and was mobile very soon afterwards. I mention this as I think you mentioned something about going to the game on Saturday. Of course, we are all different and I do not know your circumstances but I would not rule a visit to Celtic Park out just yet.

    !! Bada!!

I don`t think The Board can do anything else just yet. I realise some might argue for a wee bit of reassurance but ANYTHING Celtic say will be responded to negatively in the MSSM and might weaken anything that happens after the 2nd of December.

Does anyone know if anybody captured Sportsound tonight and uploaded it?

If not I will listen tomorrow On Demand.

I got to hear the end of it and Paul was fantastic. Would like to hear the whole thing asap.

  6. FGF

Hope the op went well. You will be glad you were indoors in Dalmuir today. I was out delivering. Soaked and frozen every drop.

Actually won by loading the dice/stacking the deck in a very dark room in Minty Manor, Morningside.

Didn’t even know Paul was on the wireless but the fact that he appears to have been “attacked” for suggesting that any sports trophies won by breaking the sport’s own rules undermines any concept of sporting integrity – is itself a testament to the absence of integrity.

Thought Paul conducted himself very well. Handled and answered all leading questions well.

Murdo McLeod sounded hostile towards Paul, I thought.

Hope you are getting some cycling training done. Perfect weather for it. :)

    Glad your op went ok.

Paul was very balanced on RS tonight.

He obviously didn’t come out all guns blazing and castigating newco and demanding title stripping, rather focussing on process and application of rules post the appeal deadline.

That he had the irritating Mcleod cutting across him constantly must have been distracting and well…..irritating.

Perhaps we should have put on neganon2 in Pauls place.

Interestingly, Tom English and Dick seem very confident that BDO will appeal the COS verdict.

  16. As we approach the Celtic AGM….I’m wondering

Does our resident Uncle Tom ( Peter Lawell) still receive his ‘discretionary ‘ bonus from the loss making club / company that he lords it over?

I’m sure Arsenal must think they allegedly escaped a bullet when he allegedly turned them down,ey?

Imposter…..Rory Bremner would do a better job!!

Aye true, it was like a Dalmuir summers day. 12 minutes of sunshine, surrounded by 12 hours of wind and rain. Braw :)

  18. Hello again all you young rebels.

Great q&a with Jim and Brendan , didn’t have the guts to ask Jim

any questions as we left him out of our best Celtic squad but he’s

Cheers for the your wee competition, an enjoyable insight, even though I missed a lot of teams from posters but was great fun and especially reading about the players I never witnessed

  23. Tried to listen to P67 on Shortiebreed but programme not available on iplayer. Wanted to find out if he played a blinder as some have made out, or if he toed the party line, as at least one other has suggested. Does anyone have a link before Guinness time, I.e. V soon?

Auld engineer 79 was in helping us with a machinery breakdown at work yesterday. He was climbing over it like an 18 year old. I asked him his secret. “I gave up on the sex at your age son, and replaced it with a hauf bottle of malt every night.” :)

  25. BLANTYREKEV @ 6:58 PM,

“On the subject of a likely appeal in the BTC the situation is really very complex now…”

Thanks for the thoughts, very enlightening if not illuminating.

Many moons ago I did some work for one of the big accountancy firms.

Wasn’t surprised to see the eye watering charges a Partner would command by the hour.

T’was surprised though when working in their insolvency division the uplift their Partners had, from memory about half as much again. Now I’ve no idea if this is current practise but I’m sure the hourly rate will be substantial.

In fact, as you know, if you can throw your chums in the legal profession a bone an awe, it can lead mutual beneficial arrangements.

Now I wouldn’t suggest for one minute that this will be the deciding factor in any decision making, a full and proper risk analysis will of course be done and the advise of Counsel taken on board, but it is a factor none the less.

From a lay mans point of view I can’t see how the risks/benefits can come down on the side of an appeal.

But as usual, I’ll leave it to wiser folk than I to work out.

    Thanks for your musings…

    Hail Hail
