AIK, Thistle, James Forrest again

281

While we hoped for a backlash, the performance on Saturday against Dunfermline was in the post.  Scoring 12 in two league games this month is more of a measure of where we are right now, but Tuesday’s defeat cast a long shadow.  Whatever hangover exists, it needs to lift by Thursday.

Two pieces of positive news arrived yesterday: a home tie in the quarterfinals, against Partick Thistle, and AIK lost at home to Kalmar.  Thistle will be no easier than Dunfermline, but they are the only lower league team left in the competition and the tie is at Celtic Park.

AIK rested five who eliminated Sheriff on Thursday, but as we know, a defeat at home to a team with significantly fewer resources damages morale.  AIK will slip four points off the pace if Djurgarden win at home tonight.

For a while on Saturday, it looked like our monopoly of domestic trophies could end.  Winning 28 consecutive cups games is unfathomably consistent, even the greatest teams have off days.  It is a measure of James Forrest that he again delivered.

Just to be clear, that’s your ‘belief’ that Brown lied about the mistake of liking the tweet, isn’t it?

  2. Phil’s source is no longer at the huns, his source was Paul Murray, he is just guessing these days, fair play to him he is keeping their shenanigans alive, nobody else will, as for his source at Celtic, he doesn’t have one, hence his belief.

As always, a rational and considered post. But ` unless things get much worse, in terms of the league,` made me pause for thought.

In that very league, we have: Played 2; Won two, For 12, Against 2.

Getting `much` worse suggests things are already bad :-))

  5. EMBRAMIKE @ 3:59 PM,

That’s old news re-hashed, I posted over the weekend that Peter Lawwell has been a members of UEFA’s PFSC since 2017 and has done nothing to improve Celtic’s standing.

It may do wonders for PL’s ego to get these gigs, nicd expenses I’d imagine but does nothing for Celtic.

Also if he hss to flog our star players for half their value to keep in with Jean-Michel Aulas et al, we’d be better off outwith the lot of them.

    Hail Hail

  6. A very sound Tim, a CQN’er albeit infrequently in recent times. Asked a question last night on a different social media platform, as to whether any Tim had heard a rumour that Lenny threw a plate of sandwiches at Brooney. Now the ghuy was at pains to say, he had been told the story but could not verify it and that it could be a crock of shit. His question did not elicit any public response.

There was no talk of either the date or the occasion where this incident happened, if indeed it happened at all.

I only mention it because there was a reference earlier in thread of a fall out between them & Phil also seems to be asking a question along the same lines.

  8. Per BBC website :

” Scottish Football Association article 29.2

‘A club or recognised football body which publishes, distributes, issues, sells or authorises a third party to publish, distribute, issue or sell a match programme or any other publication or audio/visual material of any description in any media now existing or hereinafter invented, including but not limited to the Internet, social networking or micro-blogging sites, shall ensure that any such publications or audio/visual material does not contain any criticism of any match official calculated to indicate bias or incompetence on the part of such match official or to impinge upon his character.'”

If a charge along the lines of ‘bringing the game into disrepute’ is forthcoming, it appears that Celtic will be in the dock.

Yes, I had already read that clause .What does not seem right, though, is that Celtic are saying they have not hear anything from the SFA and would be ` astonished` if they did.

How, therefore, did the MSSM get hold of the `story`???

Did they (SFA) tell them before informing Celtic or is the whole thing just a means of ensuring Beaton continues to get Celtic and Sevco gigs?

  12. No idea Fav Uncle, no date or venue mentioned, I was trying to imagine when & where myself but couldn’t figure it out. Ghuy who mentioned it freely admits & hopes that it could be a pile of shit but the initial story apparently emanated from a source that would have dressing room connections.

If nobody else here has heard the story it probably is a crock of shit.

In 2011, a lawyer at Carter Ruck in correspondence to Craig Whyte labelled me a troublemaker over an article I wrote about him outing him as a charlatan. The lawyer wanted to keep a wee eye on me.

Later on that year, Ian McKerron of Hay McKerron Associates labelled me a Celtic fanatic running a particularly aggressive and hostile website. They advised Whyte that they’d be willing to send a ‘courteous but robust message’ threatening legal action if I continued.

Whyte replied labelling me an idiot and added that I needed another warning over my ‘defamatory articles’ about him. All of which turned out to be true btw. This leads me to Jack Irvine and Craig Whyte….

Whyte linked an article I wrote about the Rangers fans and their bigotry to Jack Irvine. Irvine replied ‘We could do with a Celtic scandal. Heard anything that might fit the bill?’ Whyte replied, ‘Im sure we can dig up something.’

Jump forward to present day and I’m still a troublemaker, a Celtic fanatic, still need to be taught a lesson. Oh aye and the new Rangers guru is leading where Irvine left – by making sure Celtic ‘scandals’ or ‘talking points’ are front and centre rather than Rangers.

  16. Timaloy29………..loan signings can make huge contribution to winning the domestic trophies and then in a lot of cases they depart at the end of the season and leave the club in the lurch scrambling for replacements. how we could have done with Berkovic for the Champions League qualifiers. He’s on the first train outta town when he’s needed for the biggest games of the season. It’s a problem for any manager.

  17. Ray Winstone's Big Disembodied Heid on

If Celtic is ” in the dock ” over Cheatin Beaton, surely they will be able to refer to the legitimate questions asked regarding the impartiality or otherwise of The Bellshill Brither after his unfathomable decision making at Ibrox all favouring one team, with still no answer forthcoming from Hampden.

    Why no reply?

Have they no explanation for these decisions and similar ones thereafter?

I suspect that they have opened a can of worms here that they may later regret.

“Lawwell has served as an Executive Board Member of ECA since March 2014, has been a member of the UEFA Club Competitions Committee since 2015 and was elected as one of ECA’s four representatives on UEFA’s Professional Football Strategy Council (PFSC) in August 2017.

On 16th August 2019 he was elected one of the four ECA representatives who will sit on the UEFA Professional Football Strategy Council (UEFA PFSC) for the upcoming cycle 2019-23.”

My point is that his role on ECA for the last 5 years puts Celtic at the core of trying to reshape European competitions such that Celtic is no longer disadvantaged as we complain about now.

Losing him from Celtic and so his ‘clout’ with the elite clubs would do us no favours and I’m sure DD wants him there for that reason.

  19. I wonder when we are going to see the Ukrainian lad Shved in action. I ‘m open to correction but I would think the standard in the Ukraine would be higher than the SPL. There have been glowing reports about this lad and I find it strange that he cannot get his place in the even in the Ce;ltic squad.

But yes, that is my opinion based on the facts

  21. The CL is rigged, we all know that, it’s also rigged in our favour, fair play to Lawwell for this, he has convinced them at uefa that the champions route should be an easy ish passage for us, our problem is he hasn’t invested to make sure we have a decent fighting chance to get there, he is trying to do things on the cheap, it’s failing big time.

The Scottish League Cup was completely sold down the river to a third rate satellite station called ‘Premier Sports’ who mainly deal in friendly pre season matches and alternative sports.

No one with any sense will subscribe to them both for their pathetic content and for fear they will go out of business at a moments notice.

Even by Scottish footballing bodies standards selling exclusive rights to these muppets who do not even offer 1 day subscriptions or pay per view was as disgusting a decision as I can remember.

I have seen zero highlights packages available either on normal TV

The Scottish League Cup will be a non competition within 5 years with zero interest completely.
