Ajax, Fenerbahce, Molde for Celtic

980

It’s a return to to seed Ajax, which is a good football draw, although the Ajax fans and Amsterdam police make it an unwelcome tie for other reasons.

Fenerbahce lost their Champions League qualifier to Shakhtar Donetsk before beating Greek club Atromitos in the Europa League play-off round. There were no easy teams in pot three, Fenerbahce are about par for the group.

Molde beat Dinamo Zagreb and Standard Liege, so deserve some respect, they will fear no one in this competition.

Happy with the draw, it could have been a whole lot more difficult but as always, we have to arrive prepared as there are no hiding places in Europe.

GOLFERS!

There’s a chance to win a round of golf for four of you at the magnificent Aberdour course, scene of the annual CQN Open, for £1. Taggsybhoy has provided this opportunity, to raise funds to support the Celtic Foundation’s work. If you want to cheer yourself up after a hard week, read about the Foundation’s work here.

But after you’ve read that, get onto ebay here and enter the raffle. You’re even allowed to win it for a friend, so pile in.

A box full of backpacks, pencils and cups for Malawi just arrived at my office (thank you) ahead of tomorrow’s collection at the Celtic Way before the game. Remember to bring along your old backpacks, pencils and handtowels if you have any.

Sorry to say….that’s exactly what the plc will do…”compound failure with further failure”…that’s what they do.

    That is exactly their strategy.

They want the old firm scenario.

Good old Scottish Bigotry at its worst.

Every draws a tough draw, when you cant score goals, leak like a sieve at the back and dont have a holding midfielder.

Ajax are one of the worst football teams in Europe.

    Dire isn’t the word.

    Molde aren’t much better.

The Captain Kirks may well be a difficult adversary at their own midden, however we will beat them easily enough at Celtic Park.

I expect Celtic to top the group.

    No more excuses.

We’ll see where we are come Tuesday, but I’m not sure I agree about a possible sxxtstorm. The happy clappers & accountants will no doubt stll be out in force.

Hopefully we dont get to find out, as this bit I entirely agree with…..

“We must put every ounce of effort (and every available penny) into strengthening.

It would be criminal to compound failure with further failure”

  7. Another three European teams at Celtic Park brilliant I’m looking forward to it, looks like a good draw no easy teams, well there isn’t really at this stage of the season, I looked into the Southampton web sight there they are gutted at not qualifying for the Europa Cup, but! No board sacking, no chief executive being fired, coach not in trouble, half the team not being sold, how can that be?

Cause they don’t have lurking Hun posters

  10. Vintage, You cannot be unaware that the Muslim population is approx 1.6 Billion people. I don’t know the amount of fanatics but even allow the figure at a high 160,000 it would still be only 1% of the total. You cannot condemn 99% for the actions of 1%.

I am friendly with quite a few Muslims they are ashamed and appalled by the atrocities done in their name. By all means condemn wrongdoing but keep a sense of perspective.

P.S. Was at a wedding in London last Saturday of a Muslim girl to the son of an Irishman. Going out for an Indian meal tonight to a restaurant run by a Muslim family, nicer people you could not meet. Have an extensive business interest with another Muslim family as honest, friendly, welcoming and helpful as anyone I have ever met.

I haven’t mentioned any particular Muslim.

Just a basic truth that there are inherent fatal flaws in Islam: it is fundamentally violent in its outlook. It is a religion that promotes in its verses, graphic violence, which are not constrained by any context of time and place like the Old Testament, but are every much open ended and real.

    Wake up, the West.

  13. Loving that SOS many hurting sevco clowns plus the bitter Sydney fellow getting chance to rid some toxic bitterness this week.

So looking forward to a cracking 6 European games which many clubs supporters from Everton to fete booed to red star to spartak Moscow to Gothenburg to inter would love.

Still Alloa in the Petrofac would be a cracking tie I am sure.

  15. Not true Vintage, The Devil can quote Scripture etc. There are Christian fundamentalists who are total nutters as well.

  16. Celtic linked with Ryan Christie for £500k

He would be immediately loaned back to ICT for the season.

  17. I can’t believe the enthusiasm for the EL by some here. My son took time off work, spend money he probably coulsdn’t afford to travel to malmo to watch a shower of spineless misfits get gubbed by a team not much better than Aberdeen. At least in the past, our main gripes were with the board but at least we knew the players (with the odd exception) with bust a gut on the park no matter the opposition. Tuesday changed all that for me and I won’t be back or even take time to watch this lot on the TV. They can stick the EL up their collective erses.

  18. Brilliant news Coorslad, hope the lowlifes who did him over get their just desserts. Mental healing is as important as physical healing. Delighted he is in good spirits.

well that will give you time to teach your son some financial prudence, and how spending money you can’t affoard is a road to ruin

  20. TGBS

Fair point about Fenerbace having tougher teams to face.

    Should they have spent more?

My point is the amount spent is a poor indicator of the result such spend is supposed to mean. So why use it as a stick to beat Celtic with?

What Celtic’s spend means we are likely to outlast if not outplay our nearest challengers (and we pumped Aberdeen in the run in.)

How much should Celtic spend to outlast our CL qualifying opponents in 3 cup ties?

That is the dilemma we face. There are 2 consequences of spending to qualify.

If we lose one of the cup ties the cost is considerable.

If we win our way through the gap such spend creates domestically means the season will be over domestically before it starts.

A bit of a rock and a hard place. A bit like adding so much fertiliser to a pot that the flower blossoms quickly and brightly but the roots and soil in which it grows are killed.

  21. Here is the bottom line.

Fergus created a sustainable Celtic business.

The PLC have milked the club of big fat salaries at our expense.

They do enough to keep us hoping

But its a commercial cash cow for the 1%

    We pay

  22. just realised that Fenerbahce have Nani and van Persie. Won’t be easy; hopefully they are in semi retirement!
