Ajer, alleged serious organised crime for SFA to consider

426

There’s always some excitement when a player arrives at Lennoxtown with the intent of giving the club a look at his wares. 17-year-old Norwegian midfielder, Kristoffer Ajer, did exactly that yesterday, ahead of what we hope is a busy transfer window.

I’m pleased Ronny is scouting a market he knows well, and that we are looking to recruit below-radar players with potential. It’s also good to have prospects play training games with the squad ahead of any decision. It’s too easy to make multi-year mistakes but Kristoffer will be measured against the first team squad, and the Development Squad.

One of Celtic’s perennial failures is our inability to promote the country’s best youth talent into top professionals. Before Rangers liquidation we were involved in an all-or-nothing arms race. Every game was precious so the prospect of allowing youth players time to develop in the professional game was seen as a luxury too far.

With the greatest respect to our current rivals (including Newco, should our paths meet in the Scottish Cup), those competitive pressures have now eased. Ronny can afford to take a different view of team development. Until August, anyway.

I know what you’re thinking. You read the charges laid out at some of the characters involved with Rangers, old and new, and thought: haven’t Craig Whyte and Charles Green suffered enough? Surely calls for due process to be fulfilled are nothing short of bigoted rants? These men made their mistakes and have come through the mill, they should be allowed to get on with their lives!

Aye, I know, it’s a ridiculous suggestion.

The charge list includes “fraud, conspiracy and serious organised crime”, which is a Sword of Damocles hanging over Ibrox. No current Newco directors were involved in the criminality which is alleged to have facilitated the club’s setup, but that won’t change what happens in the event charges are upheld.

I’m sure the SFA are pondering the scope of punishment appropriate for this scenario.  Irrespective of team loyalties, such is the seriousness of the alleged offenses they will be praying for not guilty verdicts.

Please note that all men charged are innocent until and unless proven otherwise and are entitled to a fair trial unprejudiced by public comment and desist from inappropriate comment.

If you have two minutes, take a look at Steven Donnell’s page here. He’s currently cycling round the Premiership’s 12 grounds to raise money for Accord Hospice in Paisley. In minging weather. With his dad, who is blind.

    HT,

I understand it won’t be easy, but, as TET said, there is the common ground that effects all clubs.

While the FAC initiative is also important, it is really a political issue and, right or wrong, is possibly perceived to be our problem. Political inasmuch as one Party, who happen to be in a majority Government, own it. That has to be dealt with at the ballot box or City Hall.

The other issue is a football one and there is one example of common ground.

I think before any statements or declarations of intent are issued, it would be vital to talk with the other affected parties and try and reach a consensus.

I would perhaps start with Aberdeen, the next biggest club in the country, who have already voiced their concerns and have in the past asked for support for their “Fans For Change”campaign.

I honestly feel that so much time as been lost already.

As far as our own club is concerned. Evidence that Club groups were actively pursuing an anti SFA/SPFL campaign would not be lost in them.

Personally, and I admit that it wouldn’t affect me as much, as I don’t attend many games now; But I don’t know how I would feel standing or sitting at Parkhead(CP), knowing that the football authorities were laughing at us and watching us eat up the gruel that they doled out.

Last chance saloon, lads and remember, the customer is always right. you have the power.

    “Nonsense.

They recognised that ISLAMIC Jihad was perpetrated, surprisingly enough,by MUSLIMS and their Holy War was directed against non Muslims, frequently Christians.”

Jihad is directed by “some Muslims” and it is directed against other Muslim sects, non Muslims and sometimes, Christians. Where are the vast number of innocent Muslims left in this equation? And, do we, as Christians and other non-Islamic religions never invade, oppress and suppress their freedoms? Did we not have holy wars? Was the siege of Constantinople in 1204 (The 4th Crusade) any less bloodthirsty, sectarian and cruel than the siege of 1453?

    “Nevertheless………….

    Specify.

Who are you accusing thus ? “They were vilified for saying that ALL adherents of a particular religion- Islam- were uniquely evil, warlike or depraved.

    And when?”

Those absent posters you lament, Kojo chief among them- who else were you meaning to intend? You deny that when I asked these posters, both missing or absent, whether these atrocities were conducted only by Islamicists or that their victims were solely, or even, primarily, Christian?- they declined to say no- they said that the Koran was uniquely warlike in outlook and 16 roads continues to state that.

“You ,however, shamefully refused to recognise that the sexual grooming and attacks perpetrated by persons of Pakistani and/or South Asian descent on young females of essentially different race in Yorkshire were racist in nature.

Tell us,SFTB ………….How many Muslim women were groomed and sexually abused?

    Give us the list.”

Did I now? How did I refuse to recognise this? Was there a statement I refuse to sign? Did I omit to do something that would have put me in the clear on that charge? If so, I can rectify that quickly- there were many racist elements to the sexual grooming events in Yorkshire and it was perpetrated by people with sub-continental ancestry, some English born though. No Muslim women were groomed in Yorkshire that I am aware of though I doubt it is an event without precedence in many cities of the world.

Now apart from what I am not guilty of, except in your mind, from those events, is the small matter of what I did actually say about these events, which was, that these Yorkshire rapes and sexual assaults were committed by people from Islamic backgrounds but were no more typical of people of the Islamic faith than Fred West was typical of Christians, or, more appositely, than British troops were when they raped German women in 1945 or Masai women in Kenya?

I argued against the conflation that was being sought between “these crimes were committed by Muslims” to read as “Muslims are likely to commit such crimes because of their religion”. Kipling once wrote- “”There was no crime, no cruelty, no abomination that the mind of men can conceive of which the German has not perpetrated, is not perpetrating, and will not perpetrate if he is allowed to go on…Today, there are only two divisions in the world…human beings and Germans.” That was a racist stereotype then and attempts to brand Islam as uniquely evil is a sectarian stereotype with racist undertones. Where does this view have most traction? – nowhere but in the far right and racist parties.

“And,please……….Quality, not quantity. No need for a Ph.D. response.”

Happy to take it off blog and spare the rest of CQN this simplistic dialogue. There is no relationship between length and quality (The Gettysburg Address and War and Peace are both quality works).

However, apart from inviting you to take this off blog where it is better suited, I will place no restrictions on your reply nor seek to grade it at an acaedmic level.

  12. The fact that we are buying weans, the likes of Ryan Christie et all bodes well for the future, and the future is in the future, it’s not now, change is very often painful and very time consuming, are we prepared to give RD the time that he was afforded at Stromsgodset, I am, and I reckon the board are as well.

Football has changed big time, we have little spare cash due to playing is scotland so we have gone down the route we have embarked on, it’s the right one imo, but we need to bring in a couple of leaders, without our capitano Skoosh we are lost at sea, a CB, a DM and a playmaker who are worldly wise is what we need to compliment the weans, if we do this I can only see good times ahead, if we don’t, the downward spiral will carry on unabated.

  13. THE EXILED TIM on 6th January 2016 7:58 pm

I would suggest we have little spare cash because in recent years we have pursued a policy of spreading it thin on quantity rather than quality.

    Just my opinion.

  14. Q

I agree, we have tried to find the diamond and come up in the main with fools gold.

This needs to stop imo, we need to concentrate on weans, but without help it’s folly, they need old heads round about them, even at training they will be invaluable, but it needs a policy change.

I agree that Celtic have not hit the heights this season, I’m not sure if they will next season but I live in hope and believe that for the first time in many years we have addressed the problems regarding the way we set up and play in European competition

I believe Ronny can deliver that, maybe another manager could do it quicker but finding someone with the right attitude and personal belief who will commit to Celtic LONG TERM is very difficult, that’s why I think Ronny and the Board need to be given time

Finishing last in the Europa League group was not acceptable and i think Ronny knows in retrospect that he got it wrong

    Why?

He believed that Celtic were better than the opposition because he had seen it in training every day but the players didn’t deliver- lack of confidence – he will have learned from that mistake

  23. TET.

The current signing policy seems to be very one dimensional , where apart from Craig Gordon ( experienced with injury concerns but free) everyone is signed with a view to a potential sale and profit.

An effective squad of football players require experience within the ranks.

    Affordable experience costs money.

Not having it can cost more.

Lennoxtown is often criticised on this blog by various posters for not producing enough quality.

    How do we know ?

How often are they given a proper chance ?

Which if any player , who came through the youth’s have been hopelessly out their depth when pulling on a first team shirt ?

If we speculated more with our young players than buying expensive “projects” we might just have some dosh left to expand the strategy to involve experience. HH

Aleksandar Tonev was not Ronny Deila signing. He was scouted before. Celtic was one of three clubs that were interested in him before he signed for Aston Villa. My knowledge about football is very limited but I said -Thanks God after he signed for Villa, not for Celtic.

Mubarak Wakaso was not Ronny Deila signing too.

When he played for Rubin Kazan he was troublemaker on and off the pitch. Due to these troubles and poor form he lost place in the team. His form never recovered (if he ever was in form). He was not scouted by Celtic. It was his agents who were looking for the new job for him. At that time, another club with who they talked about loan contract was Serie B team. After he returned to Rubin, he spent half of the season at Rubin Kazan B. Now he is loaned to UD Las Palmas (Spanish Liga 1) . I His performace data, or better to say, no performance, suggests he is still poor footballer.

I said none of the above were Deila signings and I meant full, giving demand, usuall control of scouting process and green light for the contract.

Yip, but the support need to play their part, the meltdown needs to stop when we don’t win, we need to get behind the team instead of the booing etc, the game against Thistle was a good example, at the end of the game, the support supported, we won, no saying it will happen all the time, but we really need to be a part of the team, their 12 th man, the other teams have their 12 man on the pitch with a whistle, and they have a couple of subs with flegs.

And yip again, experience costs money, but it shouldn’t break the bank, less than a handful of quality players won’t break our bank, far from it, it may even fill the coffers to the brim.

For all our suits are quality money men, they seem to be very shortsighted when it comes to putting a footy team on the park, a team that excites the support.

We can only bump our gums on the net, they have the where with all to do something about it.
