AJER LOOKING FOR HOME SWEET HOME

KRISTOFFER AJER will return to his homeland next week determined to get one over his fellow-Norwegians.

The versatile 19-year-old defender/midfielder made his first start for the Hoops in the goalless draw against Rosenborg last night.

Ajer was drafted in to central defence to cover the injuries to Dedryck Boyata and Erik Sviatchenko.

Ajer said: “It was a huge honour for me to play in a big game like this for Celtic.

“I have been working really hard since I came here and the gaffer gave me the opportunity.

“I was a bit nervous when I found out in the morning, but I kept it simple and I think I came out okay.

“You can prepare are much as you want, but if you come out and hear ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ you know it is a big thing.

“It was good for me to come out with a clean sheet.

“It was probably the biggest game I have ever played in my career, but the gaffer told me to keep it simple, defend first and foremost.

“They had some good chances, but we had some good shots from outside the box which on another day could go in.

“It will be a tough game in Trondheim, but we will go there with ambition.

“It is a good atmosphere and nice pitch.”
