AJER MISSES CLASH OF THE CELTS

KRISTOFFER AJER will almost certainly miss a Celtic reunion when Norway take on Israel tomorrow night.

The Hoops defender was looking forward to facing team-mates Nir Bitton and Hatem Abd Elhamed in the friendly encounter in Oslo.

However, Ajer is likely to be sidelined after a recurrence of the groin strain that saw him limp off in the 4-1 Premiership win over Motherwell at Fir Park on Sunday. The skyscraper centre-back was forced to come off 12 minutes from the end against Stephen Robinson’s outfit with Shane Duffy taking his place.

It was the same injury that saw the player miss the 2-0 Scottish Cup semi-final triumph over Aberdeen the previous weekend.

Norwegian international boss Lars Lagerback hopes to have Ajer available for at least one of the three forthcoming games which also include a double UEFA Nations League test against Romania in Bucharest on Sunday and Austria in Vienna on Wednesday.

Asked if the Celt will be fit enough to play, the experienced gaffer, speaking to local newspaper VG, said: “We do not know for sure. We have only had audio contact so far.

“We do not know how serious it is. He is not completely negative himself, but could not play a game today.”

Hoops chief Neil Lennon has already stated he hopes all his players come through unscathed on this occasion as he prepares for the Premiership restarting against Hibs at Easter Road a week on Saturday.
