AJETI ON BRINK OF DEAL

SWISS international striker Albian Ajeti is in the brink of agreeing a season-long deal with Celtic

The West Ham striker has asked for more time to mull over the proposed move, but Neil Lennon has made a personal intervention to step up the temporary shift to Parkhead.

Jeti cost West Ham £8million when they signed him for Basel last summer, but has failed to spark at the London club.

Boss Davie Moyes is prepared to let him go the nine-in-a-row champions with the view to a permanent contract at the end of the campaign with a fee of £5million being mentioned.

Lennon held further talks with the 23-year-old player’s agent last night to speed up things while Ajeti is on holiday in Sardinia, according to a report in Sky Sports News.

If negotiations continue to progress, the deal could be completed by early next week.

Ajeti would be the Parkhead chief’s second permanent signing of the summer following goalkeeper Vasilis Barkas who arrived in a £4.5million switch from AEK Athens on a four-year deal.

The frontman made just 12 appearances for the Hammers in all competitions last time around.

The UK summer transfer window will run until 11pm on October 5.
