Alarming rise in tensions ahead of Sunday’s game

277

One day this week Strathclyde Police officers will have visited Lennoxtown and Murray Park and reminded players and officials the consequences their actions can have before during and after Sundays Celtic-Rangers game.

Our streets are dangerous on these weekends, best avoided, always avoided by me.  You know it, I know it, people who have worked in the game for the last 40-odd years know it.

At a media conference at Ibrox today, Sandy Jardine said:

“Having gone round and met a lot of the supporters and people within the club, I think people are absolutely sick and tired of everybody having a kick at us when we’re down.

“Out of that, the supporters will take sanctions against clubs which we deem have been unfair to ourselves.

“I’m not going to go into the actual details but we will probably announce that after the meeting with the supporters clubs.

“Everybody is sick and tired of just accepting everything that everybody is throwing at us and it’s about starting to fight back.

“The size of our club and the size of our supporter base, it can be a powerful weapon.

“Everybody having a kick at us”.   “Supporters will take sanctions”.  “It’s about starting to fight back”.

Watch yourself at the weekend.  After the game, go home and stay there.  Talk about kicking and fighting three days before the game does not bode well.

On earlier comments to James Forrest’s original post…

A large chunk of Republican support in the USA is from poorer whites motivated by racism. This is mainly due to their perception that blacks benefit too much from social welfare programs. Of course it is never expressed in this way but in a myriad of euphemistic ways. When you can never fathom what an American is arguing politically think racism and you’ll generally be correct. However, this is changing somewhat as the corporate front of the Republicans (just like British Tories) is being found out as totally corrupt. Especially under the Bushes. Of course there is corruption on the other side too but its not total. Same argument w/Tories in my opinion. I think its safe to say Obama will get re-elected. The Fox fascist TV and their ilk are gearing up for a real ugly myriad of euphemisms for the run up to November to win over the “popular” vote.

The South Park analogy is more appropriate in the UK.

Liquidation and more Obama..whats not to like?

I went over to Gozo last year, we spent lots of time at the Qala festival, wonderful community spirit, colour, atmosphere, they know how to party.

    We’ll go back next year.

  4. So the latest Jackanory story (not quotes obviously) from jangle in the daily ranger is that the barron knights and kennedy are to team up with a joint bid for the taxdodgers and ticketus are not part of bid.

  5. Mark Hateley said “What I want to know is, what qualifications do Drysdale, Allan and Murning have to sit on a judicial panel and dish out sanctions? Do they have any sort of background at the top level of football?”

Perhaps a wee insight into his logic process there. I wonder if he thinks only murderers would be suitable to sit on the jury at a murder trial, or if only war criminals could pass sentence on their peers.

Keith Jackson wrote this… Brian Kennedy was last night on the verge of joining up with Paul Murray to force through a joint bid to buy Rangers.

Record Sport can exclusively reveal the pair spent yesterday locked in all-day talks, attempting to thrash out the terms of a coalition they believe can rescue the club from the brink of oblivion.

And their salvage mission looks set to be done WITHOUT any financial backing from London finance firm – Ticketus – who have been cut out of the proposed partnership.

And in the very next sentence he wrote this…

In fact, this possible 11th-hour alliance has been privately discussed since late last week when Murray, right, travelled south to meet Kennedy, above right, at his home for key negotiations, which also – included – top executives from Ticketus.

It is our understanding that during those talks Ticketus – who bankrolled Craig Whyte’s regime – chose not to sign off on the terms of an initial agreement with Murray which would have seen them claw back only £10m of a £27m debt if the Blue Knights won control of Rangers.

Again from the Record and Walter Smith said…

“It’s very difficult to try to sum up how I feel about him, actually. I would say there’s nothing wrong with someone coming into a football club thinking they could make some money out of it. If he thought that, fine, I can see that.

“But what I can’t stomach with him is right from the start this has been an intentional aspect of his ownership.

“It’s really difficult to accept for those of us who have been involved at the club for a long time.

“I just hope the club is sold, he is away and we can recover again and basically forget all about him.”

And Smith again from the Scotsman…

Smith, who handed the reins over to McCoist at the end of last season, said he understood the frustration expressed by his successor, who has been widely criticised this week for going too far in his condemnation of the governing body.

“He’s passionate about Rangers Football Club,” Smith said yesterday of McCoist. “Never mind the fact he has the job of manager to do, he has also been a supporter since he was a boy. He doesn’t like to see what is happening to his club at the present moment.

“If you add the frustrations he will feel in his first year as a manager – and finding himself dealing with circumstances that very few of us, regardless of how experienced we are, have had to handle – there will be a lot of frustration there. And that came out the other day, and came out quite rightly in my opinion.

“I think he’s handled himself extremely well, and no-one has been able to help him, because how can anyone help him when you have never been in those circumstances? The frustration came to the fore the other day, but there was a point to what he was saying.”

Now I wonder who has been subjected to the most stress and strain… Ally McCoist or Neil Lennon? I don’t remember Neil Lennon encouraging the fans with innuendo to get acquainted with those who sent him bombs or those who had the charges against them diluted to farce, or the judge who may have nod and winked the motion and that guy that ran onto the park at Tynecastle and assaulted Neil Manager and who further pleaded guilt to the charge only to have a jury find him not guilty. That jury was a civil equivalent of the SFA Judicial Panel,. Neil never whined that he wanted all their names, addresses, past schools and allegiances made public, did he Walter?

Ps… I thought Ally was a St. Johnstone supporter.

Pps… so why did you walk away Walter and leave all the crap for Ally?

Ppps… Pot – Kettle – Black – I wonder if Walter has paid back any of his EBT loans yet?

Not to be left in the shadows the bold Sandy in the Sun…

Jardine said: “I won’t speculate on what we might do, but everything is on the table to be talked about and discussed. Out of that we will get an agreement and a consensus as a united body to go forward.

“One part of the meeting will be about the Fans’ Fighting Fund. The other part will be about finding out what the sanctions will be against the club from the SFA or SPL — and what action we want to take in response.

“I’ve never seen the fans so angry about all the things that are happening to our club.

“It’s also the first time we have had a real unity. What we hope to gain is a mandate to take action against teams or organisations we deem to be against our interests.

    “It’s time we fought back.”

Now in my humble opinion I think he could have chosen his words just a wee bit differently.

Lenny faces three more charges… how many will Ally face for saying this…

“Plain and simply, I think it is an absolutely shocking decision,” McCoist said of the action against Rangers. “I was shocked and absolutely appalled by the way this supposedly independent judicial panel was coming down on us in this form.”

“Who are these people?” McCoist continued. “I want to know who these people are. I’m a Rangers supporter, and the Rangers supporters and the Scottish public deserve to know who these people are, people who are working for the SFA.”

James Forrest, you’re a bore, son.

I stopped reading your posts long time ago. I see your name at the top and I know what’s coming: miles and miles of utter tedium …………..like a never-ending stretch of soulless tarmac.

    Yawn, yawn, yawn.

  7. 'crushed nuts?' 'Naw, Layringitis!' on

Ally and Sandy have shown their true colours, if no action is taken against them the establishment will show theirs.

The sooner they are gone the better. Walty asks for a ‘suspended’ sentence, why?

  8. scotlands shame on

    Quick question.

Walter Smith believes that playing 18 year olds could relegate rangers next season.

That’s despite fact that sanctions could be imposed this season that relegate them to div 3.

If either scenario happens above, Rangers “loyal” support will dwindle markedly.

I’m intrigued what sanctions jardine et al think they can impose. I believe they are already bhoycotting Raith rovers (how many times they are expecting to play them in next 5 years is unclear considering I dont think they have played them this century) so saying, for example you are going to bhoycott dundee Utd would be a moot point considering the following:

If rangers team full of 18 year olds then dundee uts could easily become the no 2 team in Scotland therefore their attendences would soar and rangers would bring very little support to a game they expect beaten in OR

Rangers in div 3 so not playing dundee uts anyway.

Well thought out Sandy. Dont want to advise you as good to see the mess you are making but wee thought – perhaps instead of trying to punish the blameless, maybe try and sort out the mess your club is in, organise fund raising etc – call for the guilty to bepunished perhaps. Crazy notion i know

  9. Sandy Jardine has really destroyed his own reputation, such as it was, by giving approval to the mob’s plan to “take sanctions” against other clubs who have been “unfair” to Rangers.

Excuse me, Mr Jardine, shouldn’t you be apologising to other clubs? You owe them money, after all. They are the ones who have been wronged, not you.

The “logic” of the Tax Dodgers is something that not even Kafka or Orwell could have dreamed up.

  10. Was there not some kind of final deadline for preferred bidder earlier this week? What happened to that? It feels like we are all just waiting for the FTT results.

James Forrest puts a lot of thought and effort into his posts. You might not agree with what he has to say but he does have a way with words and the ability to articulate them. If you have given up reading what he has to say then that is your prerogative but do you really think such puerile insults are becoming of a Celtic Supporter?
