Alarming rise in tensions ahead of Sunday’s game

277

One day this week Strathclyde Police officers will have visited Lennoxtown and Murray Park and reminded players and officials the consequences their actions can have before during and after Sundays Celtic-Rangers game.

Our streets are dangerous on these weekends, best avoided, always avoided by me.  You know it, I know it, people who have worked in the game for the last 40-odd years know it.

At a media conference at Ibrox today, Sandy Jardine said:

“Having gone round and met a lot of the supporters and people within the club, I think people are absolutely sick and tired of everybody having a kick at us when we’re down.

“Out of that, the supporters will take sanctions against clubs which we deem have been unfair to ourselves.

“I’m not going to go into the actual details but we will probably announce that after the meeting with the supporters clubs.

“Everybody is sick and tired of just accepting everything that everybody is throwing at us and it’s about starting to fight back.

“The size of our club and the size of our supporter base, it can be a powerful weapon.

“Everybody having a kick at us”.   “Supporters will take sanctions”.  “It’s about starting to fight back”.

Watch yourself at the weekend.  After the game, go home and stay there.  Talk about kicking and fighting three days before the game does not bode well.

  1. Good morning from a very damp MK.

So glad CQN is back but it’s left me little time to trawl the posts, although I have had time to read BRTH’s and James Forrest’s excellent posts.

The onslaught of comments coming from within the Rangers camp at the moment are reckless and incendiary.

A reserved communique from Peter Lawwell today about the need for people in responsible positions to be more considered in their public utterance would be timely and it’d also put down a marker for the likely fallout from Sunday’s game.

  3. Why is it that this headline from today’s online Daily Mail makes me think of Sunday’s game?

  19. Division 3 and a brand new NewCo with no history is the only way to remove all toxicity from Rangers. Otherwise they will still be liable for sanctions and lawsuits from the 2 contracts, the big scandal that is still to hit. Rangers and D&P all know this. CVA is just not on the agenda anymore, it never really was.

The major problem being getting their fans to follow a brand new NewCo in enough numbers in the 3rd Division.

Are any of you curious as to why the Rangers legneds are suddenly issuing fiery rhetoric? How about this for a scenario?

You have a gullible, herd like fanbase, greedily gobbling up anything you tell them unquestioningly. They have a superiority complex and their ego’s have all been stung. You have them drunk on injustice, persecution and bias. You lash out at all and sundry publicly for daring to kick you whilst you are down. Slowly whipping things up to the point where as a club you need to take a moral stand against the whole of Scottish football due to their hatred of you and The Rangers. How do you do this?

Resign from the SPL and go to Division 3.

Your stupid fans see this as a protest and waddle along after you baa’ing on cue.

it is what I would do….

  20. Ticketus not funding any takeover? From all we’ve heard no one else will!

That leaves three options for Ticketus – remember they have shelled out over £20M and will want at least some of it back.

They could stick to the original plan and take cash out every year from season ticket sales – this assumes there is a club and that it is selling a sufficient number of season tickets or can pay the difference.

They could go after Criag Whyte and/ or his company in court for the cash.

They could take Whyte’s shares in lieu of payment – but would they really want to end up owning the huns??

  21. jock steins celtic on

Ticketus claim they are not Creditors (but owners of the tickets) so any CVA is nothing to do with them ?

  22. Maybe its time we all clubbed together and made D&P an offer.

With a wee bit of work ibrokes could be renovated and turned into the finest GAA Stadium outside Ireland.

  23. jock steins celtic – As it stands at the moment you are correct. However the court said the administrators could rip up the contract which would then make Ticketus creditors, if they so chose to do so.

  24. Sounds like the penny may finally have dropped with Ticketus and the have simply decided/accepted that there’s no prospect of salvaging any meanigful investment from being involved with any successor to RFC(IA).

Maybe they’ve simply decided to focus on pursuing Whyte through the courts.

I would imagine that there are fewer unknowns along that path …
