  1. On behalf of our Faith community in the Calton we would like to ask the following questions:

    1. In light of these events, will Glasgow City Council review the routes of the Orange Order parades on:

    a. 21st July 2018 passing St Alphonsus Church

    b. 4th August 2018 passing St Mary’s Church

    c. 11th August 2018 passing St Mary’s Church

    d. any other future parades scheduled to pass our places of worship?

    ———————-

    that beggars belief.

i take it the calton is not 100% a catholic community, but why dont those fit enough block the street. like they did on the gallowgate.

England/Harry Kane is a great double, however, hope it fails.

Yip , Celtic had a big influence in that game , Gordon was’nt to clever either

  5. After a good night here in Muswell Hill. It’s beem a good night for our Celtic family.

However let’s remember the joy that cannot be quantified amongst the families of the children and rescue teams in Thailand tonight.

I loved the positive attitude of the Thai police on Sunday and prayed that it was not bravado.

Thankfully, they had the skills to complete the rescue. God bless everyone involved in this rescue.

  6. The lesson here is that the authorities and the fourth estate will do everything in their power to suppress these type of incidents unless, you take the matter out of their hands and force the issue.

  8. 3-0 away is a good result but it wasn’t a great performance. Too early in the season to be critical, though.

Correct, been posting last few days re Level 5 squirrels, Show Racism mob been exposed again as a government funded shield for any relevant opinion, i.e ‘one as bad as each other, the Logan BS was out last week and was dying, no evidence, no statements. The spat on jersey story looks like another Levell 5 set up.

  10. Brilliant statement just can not believe these walks are still going to happen in the coming weeks

Then again it is Scotland we are in,god bless Canon Tom HH

  11. Letter received in reply to my e-mail.

Thank you for your email raising the matter if the Orange Walk in Glasgow and the alleged incident against Canon Thomas White.

First if all, I deplore any form of violence, including that which is either sectarian or racist in nature.

I am led to believe the walk took a different route this year due to the TRNSMT music festival which was taking place.

Police Scotland are investigating the alleged incident and it would be ill considered of me to prejudge their investigations. However, once the investigations are concluded and if the perpetrator/s are apprehended, I would hope the full weight of the law is utilised against them and that they obtain a commensurate sentence.

Regarding the issue of Orange Walks taking place I offer the following. There are many aspects of life that I may like or dislike but if we live in a country that is meant to be tolerant then banning events like this could be considered to be intolerant. Nonetheless, if they are to continue, strict rules should be applied, as they have been before such as a) no marching past Roman Catholic Churches b) if marching past a religious building of any denomination is to happen then no playing of instruments and c) increased stewarding and paying for the costs of Police time to police the March.

You mentioned the number of marches in Scotland. Can I ask you where you take your figures from please, as I am having to write to each individual council in Scotland to request the number of processions in their area, as the information is not held centrally?

Finally, you mention the abuse you have received all of your life due to your Irish origins and religion. As I’m sure you will agree, dealing with racism and sectarianism is not easy and if it were we would not suffer it today. I abhor racism and sectarianism and when either come up in discussion I confront the person.

I believe that progress has been made in attempting to tackle both issues but there is still clearly much work to be done. I don’t think the language surrounding Brexit and the recent events affecting people from the Windrush Generation have helped at all. In fact the situation has become worse because some people seem to have become emboldened in their ill thought out beliefs.

I have undertaken some activities with Nil By Mouth and know they have worked with people from Inverclyde. This type of activity is helpful, in my opinion, but equally I recognise it won’t change the situation immediately. It is difficult to change the attitudes of some people for whom bigotry is their way of life.

I hope this reply is helpful.

    Yours Sincerely,

    Stuart McMillan MSP

Sot At work snatching in and out.

Tim Hardin remember him wrote ‘If I had a hammer’

*hate tae be pedantic but Pete Seeger wrote that and first performed it at a testimonial dinner for the leaders of the Communist Party of the United States.

His half sister Peggy married Jimmie Miller aka Ewan MacColl who wrote “The First Time Ever I Saw Your face” for her. Ewan’s daughter was of the “I could have been someone and so could anyone” fame.

BTW Trini Lopez had a huge hit with it while I was just leaving school.

Excellent, measured statement that gets to the heart of the matter.

It’s great the SMSM are picking up on this, Scots for all their idiosyncrasies do not like their vile underbelly being exposed…

You and your fellow Parishioners and of course the Clergy have handled this situation with great dexterity and decorum…

VFR….Statement says it all. My support for all parishoners of St Alphonsus and St Mary’s…

  16. On behalf of St Mary’s, St Alphonsus and Canon Tom (who was on reading the comments on CQN last night) I would like to express our sincere gratitude for the prayers, thoughts and good wishes expressed. It is very humbling.

One of the Celtic blogs recently advocated that on the 130th year of Celtic’s existence it would be appropriate that the Parish Priest of St Mary’s unfurl the league flag. I’m beginning to think that in light of recent events it might be absolutely appropriate – the Celtic family gather round and support him in a very public way.

It’s an idea I may very well float to them tomorrow!

  17. VFR,

Very professional statement from the parishioners. Says exactly what is required, asks very pertinent questions and avoids making demands.

Great result tonight with some squeaky bum moments but we were playing on what appeared to be a poor pitch in extreme heat. At least the next leg should be closer to home.

  19. English “journalist”: Mr. Dalić. Do you think you will be able to handle Harry Kane?

Zlatko Dalić: We handled Messi. Next?

  20. After dominating the close season with 95% of back page possession, the team managed by Mr G was left in the rear view mirror as the team known since 1888 as Glasgow Celtic started their season in earnest.

  21. Was all set to support engl@nd tonight, when the phone went, turns out I have a long lost cousin fay Croatia, ……………………………… imagine that…………………. would never have thought it, anyway, so now I will be supporting my uncle’s side…………………… Croatia…. COYBIboxes

I just saw the inside of the plane the squad flew home in. I don’t care what anyone says about our financial resilience. If we don’t fill Parkhead for the return leg, we’re oot the gehm. Maybe we shouldn’t have pushed on for the third goal, left a little dramatic tension.

  23. Despite his Efe moment last night I thought Jack Hendry looked better at the back than at any time last season.

That mistake was a real bad one though!!

3-5-2 is a funny one. Offensively it’s great and allows us to play both Dembele and Edouard. Defensively though I’m really worried about Hendry and Simunovic getting isolated in wide areas against trickier players. Jozo made a bad mistake in the first half in one of these situations when he dived in and missed the ball.

  24. Good morning CQN from a damp but humid Garngad

VFR and colleagues brilliant statement and good luck.

Just seen the Scotty Sinclair video getting shared on bookface, wow!

Our club is run so well that it cannot be anything but impressive.

We still need an experienced quality centre back and a right back IMO
