ALBION ROVERS v CELTIC CUP-TIE SELL-OUT

CELTIC’S Scottish Cup fourth round meeting with Albion Rovers is a 10,000 plus sell-out at Airdrie’s Excelsior Stadium.
The Hoops fans bought all of their tickets earlier this week – with over 8,000 going in one day.
Now the part-time League One club’s glamour clash against the the champions on Sunday, January 22, will be played in front of a full house after the final few tickets for the home end were snapped up.The Coatbridge men sold the remainder of their 1,500-seat allocation yesterday and the club’s chairman Ronnie Boyd insisted it was a proud day for Rovers.
He said: “It’s great for the club. The supporters have really backed us and we have to thank them for that. We are small team, so it’s great that the town has got behind the guys.

“We still have fans coming through the door asking about tickets. They have been in high demand.”

The game will be beamed across Britain on Sky Sports and Boyd can’t wait for the spotlight to be on the club.

Boyd added: “I’ve been to the stadium and stood in the centre circle. I just took it in and imagined what it would be like to be surrounded by a great Rovers support and the Celtic fans.

“The whole of the country will be watching us – so it gives us a great chance for the players and fans to showcase the club.

“We have a game against Livingston this weekend, which will be a good test against a full-time club to get us ready for Celtic.”

Rovers were denied a famous victory when they played Sevco Rangers in the Scottish Cup in 2014 when a fairly blatant honest mistake gave the comedy club an underserved draw. Have a look…
