Amazonians, the Window of Opportunity

643

“It’s just a dream come true”, the words of 20-year-old Holmbert Fridjonsson, who today signed a pre-contract agreement with Celtic and will join the club on 1 January.  5’ 9” manager, Neil Lennon, told Celticfc.net that the 6’3” striker is “a good size”, perhaps giving a glimpse into the innermost thoughts guiding Celtic’s recruitment policy, for those who have not noted the collection of Amazonians now in hoops.

Holmbert will push for a place with Anthony Stokes, Teemu Pukki and Amido Balde; Georgios Samaras is seldom used as a conventional striker.  He has made 45 career appearances, five fewer than Victor Wanyama when he signed for Celtic, also as a 20-year-old.

A year ago, when Victor was busy declining a new contract offer, we talked about the window of opportunity, when you have enough appearances to judge a player, but not so many that the world and their grannie knows about him.  We concluded that less than 30 appearances would be enough.  Victor made a total of 61 Celtic appearances but was his stock rose stratospherically after 30-odd games. The stats suggest we should catch them between 30 and 60 appearances.

Stunning result for Gordon Strachan’s Scotland last night.  Keep an eye on that guy, he’s got talent.

Really looking forward to another great charity night at the Columba Club, Blantyre, on Friday, starting at 8pm, where we are having a Q&A with myself, Phil Mac Giolla Bhain and Paul McConville, in aid of the Lourdes Fund.  These are always great nights, tickets are available at the door, get along and say ‘hello’.

Many thanks to the hundreds of you have now ordered the CQN Annual, and for all the encouraging feedback.  It’s a bit big for a stocking filler, unless perhaps you’re an Amazonian.

See you Friday.

Annan as you are no doubt aware were already in exsistance when Grentna went bust. Something most people appear to forget though is that SFL offered Gretna a place in the Scottish Third Division, which they were only unable to take up because they didn’t have the finances to run a senior club

  8. Bocchiniboy….

You would logically assume that Deadclub had a higher calibre of defenders playing than the journeymen that our strikers should be putting to the sword now?

Would mean at least 4 games it would be harder to score?

  15. As part of the upgrade to CP, the London Rd school will be demolished over the coming week.

It is with mixed feelings that I see it go. It has always been part of the Celtic landscape, and a lovely building in it’s own right.

I’m sure what we replace it with will be an asset to the club, and move us further into the 21st Century, but for me a little bit of paradise will be lost.

“It all points to UEFA being asked to clarify.”

There in lies the problem, UEFA are NOT going to clarify unless they are forced to Comprehensively elaborate the Rangers position.

They will leave this to the SFA whenever possible, who will continue to evade the question whenever possible, when the have to comment their comments will be general and ambiguious, like Winning captains @ 13:50 quoted…..

“We consulted with UEFA, which explained that its rules allowed for the recognition of the “sporting continuity” of a club’s match record, even if that club’s corporate structure had changed. We also consulted with the SFA, which confirmed that its definition of a football “club” varied depending on context, and could sometimes refer to an entity separate from the club’s corporate owner. The SFA further pointed out that, following RFC’s transfer to a new corporate owner, Newco did not take a new membership of the SFA but rather that the previous membership was transferred across to them so they could continue as the same member of the SFA.”

…..We consulted with UEFA, which explained that its rules allowed for the recognition of the “sporting continuity” of a club’s match record, even if that club’s corporate structure had changed.

True, very true although what they didn’t mention was that they do not allow this if the purpose of the Corporate restructuring is to avoid paying creditors as in the case of RFC(ia).

…..We also consulted with the SFA, which confirmed that its definition of a football “club” varied depending on context, and could sometimes refer to an entity separate from the club’s corporate owner.

Once again true but not in the case of Rangers F C that Football Club which was incorporated.

The only way we can get to the truth is if these organisations disambiguate which unless legally compelled, they will not do.

….The SFA further pointed out that, following RFC’s transfer to a new corporate owner, Newco did not take a new membership of the SFA but rather that the previous membership was transferred across to them so they could continue as the same member of the SFA.”

Now here is where we have a problem, the SFA according to the rules cannot transfer the ownership of a Club’s membership if the point of the restructuring of ownership is to avoid debts. This is where they need to be challenged and challenged hard.

    Hail Hail

  22. glasgowdave- Appreciate your feelings but I see the opposite, it is a run down Victorian building stuck between 2 of the finest sporting arenas contained within a brand new sports park and transport complex.

I know people will dig deep on Saturday, It will probably be the biggest league game attendance in months, so we have the audiance.

I would say to anyone who see’s some collections at Parhead as political, that this one is not, this is simply about helping members of the Celtic family achieve justice and get back to their families, and also about vindicating the great reputation we have built up over many years. So if you can give generously, and if you’re struggling stick a £1 in the bucket, it will go a long way.
