The sun shone, McStay’s Maestro’s ‘Celtic’ won from being two goals down and 25,000 people contributed to War Child, Unicef and the Rio Ferdinand Foundation.  Yesterday was another defining yardstick on the Celtic journey.

Getting the balance of these games right, in order to provide an actual ‘match’, is difficult, but the two sides managed it.  There were fewer Directioners there to see Louis Tomlinson than last year, but their contribution to the causes was still welcome.

Frank McAvennie scored a classic Macca goal.  Hollywood A-lister James McAvoy converted a penalty kick and looked as happy as you or I would in the circumstances.  We’re going to struggle when Tom Boyd retired from the Legends game.  Simon Donnelly and Bobby Petta looked like they could still do a job in the pro game, but special mention has to go to Gary Tank Commander (Greg McHugh).  The words “Nice, Lubo”, left my lips as I mistook Greg for someone else after a deft piece of skill.  Don’t ask me to explain.

It wasn’t football as you know it, but it was Celtic supporters doing what they do best – helping those in need.

All this came a day after the Paradise to Cardenden Cycle 2014, when a group of fans cycled from Celtic Park to John Thomson’s grave for the Celtic FC Foundation.

The Foundation is not the club, it is you, me and thousands like us who believe Celtic is something greater.  It works in four arenas:

Health
Equality
Learning
Poverty

There’s no obligation for Celtic fans to get involved, or to cherish any of the above, but I know many of us get a whole lot more out of Celtic by anchoring to these principles.

There’s a sense that we’ll see a new Celtic on Saturday.  Looking forward to it immensely.

The blog is now 90% dedicated to the independence debate, or is it better described as name calling. Anyway carry on if you must but I for one am off oot for a few weeks.

Sorry, you must have missed the news that God is a banana. Stick around and discuss it. What does this mean for the modern church?

  2. Like a few on here I am totally scunnered by the independence debate taking over the blog, why aren’t those of both sides who spend hours on here defending their side out knocking doors and actively campaigning,i don’t think I have seen one poster who has had their mind changed by anything they read on here

A fruit could never be a god in Scotland, a steakbake maybe.

    ——————————————————————–

Erm, possibly, but the guilt felt afterwards is more suited to steakbake being the devil?

Not that Fat Sally seems to show much guilt in pursuing his passion – pre-determination an’ aw that…

  6. Thought this was a football blog?

Can I ask a genuine footy question? Although it does relate more to Sevco & Paul’s last article (I’ve been catching up)………

It’s about the Ibrox Stadium sale & lease idea. If Sevco are struggling to stay afloat, who in the right mind would buy Ibrox stadium to lease back? Even with the money generated from the sale of such assets would “keep the lights on” a little longer, if that were to run out who would the next tennants be? If Sevco FC version 27 couldn’t afford to rent Ibrox (I’m assuming that the running costs for policing etc won’t be going down) then who would? Would the area be sold for redevelopment?

Genuine question. And apologies for the Sevco subject matter, but at least it’s a step in the right direction.

Oh, and vote for anybody you choose. :-) Peace.

  8. Irvine Welsh today:

Why is the British Establishment so desperate to keep Scotland?

Well, if there’s a Yes vote, north of the border instantly gets rid of the hereditary second chamber, the City of London and Britain’s public-school elites, all those forces superfluous to good government but expensively grandfathered into our current system. There will also be a proper constitution drawn up, conferring citizen rights and designating responsibilities. It’s inevitable that people in England will then look north and think: “I fancy a bit of that.”

Only a very few of those who care about the result of the vote have been personally abusive towards their antagonists.

Most have made their points without any threat or insult.

Come the morning after the count we will all be fellow Celtic men without any recrimination.

I did not see anything about Callum being injured. I’d suspect his absence from the Scottish bench was just that he was being taken along for the experience this time.

I did not pick him because he has had a good run of games and young players breaking through should not be played until they drop form. He was not too great last time out so I’d give him a break at Pittodrie and let us see our new winger. If Mubarak is any good, Callum might be back to competing for the advanced midfielder slot with Kris Commons as Mubarak and Jamesie F will have the wings well coped with.

do you understand Increase and increase in real terms.

for example I ahave had pay rises this last 3 years. But in real terms tehy have actually been pay decreases. Go figure eh!

So YES I agree NHS England has had an increase in funding this last 3 years but it has not been an increase in REAL TERMS. Thank you for your interest in my opinion though.

I’m sure though you will not be able to fathom that one out or will ignore as it does not suit your agenda.

    BTW

    While you are here.

Have you came up with answer to that wuation I put to you.

Can you tell me 1 thing, just one thing, that will be to the benefit the people of Scotland if we vote No that we do not have already, that is not equal to what we have already and is not a reduced benefit on that of something similar being offered to the people of Scotland if we vote Yes?

Actually Bawsman and Neganon do you have a benefit?

    MWD says AYE

  13. Davidopoulos,

August was a difficult month for RD and JC. I hope September swings us towards the season we want to experience.

Oddly, Celtic are the only top six club to have played one league match at home to date.

In comparison, Sevco are the only top six Championship club to have played three league matches at home already.

Probably not odd just the way it works in the SPFL.

  17. Sftb,

Cheers. I was wondering if they were connected and I maybe missed some injury news.

I’m hoping to see some new faces on Saturday. The dons, as always, will be a bit of a banana skin methinks.

Not back until Saturday pal. Off to France to look at gee gees but won’t really know what I’m looking at!

Unfortunately won’t make the game either :-(

  24. Don’t know the starting XI for Saturday but I just hope they are prepared for a battle from the off. Aberdeen will be up for it and we’ll need guys on there ready to win the battle first.

I expect them to have 5 in the middle and we cannot allow them to dominate there.

Looking forward to a couple of debuts and three points.
