And they came in huge numbers to buy season tickets

546

Ticket officeThis morning’s images of a chain of people snaking around the Celtic Park ticket office and out towards London Road is remarkable. Even more so when you consider more people were buying season tickets online than queueing from the small hours to make sure they can support Celtic next season.

Frankly, I didn’t think we’d see sights like this until we saw a change in playing environment.

Season ticket sales, together with recent commercial deals concluded with Dafabet and Magners, puts the club on an enormously better financial footing, but the benefits extend beyond what we see today. Peripheral income, such as match day spent at the superstore and at kiosks, will have a corresponding lift.

Now if we get Champions League income on top of this………….

Can anyone enlighten me to the `events` that happened after the SC semi? Was DD subjected to sectarian singing, or was it not the case that he had left before then? Genuine replies hoped for, not taxi driver tales

I once got a fare through Belfast City Centre from a Sevvie Supporting Taxi Driver.

I started telling him about the New Firm; New Club; No Titles Reality when he suddenly changed the subject to the New Max Flaming Hot flavor of Walkers Chrisp’s (What!!).

Re. Discussion on the stadium and main stand.

Unlike many large stadiums we generally have a superior playing surface.

Compare and contrast with San Siro or Amsterdam ArenA surfaces, which are usually poor.

I think a large part of the reason for this is because the main stand, at the south end of the ground is: a) lower than the rest of the stadium, and b) has a roof that allows light to pass through to the pitch.

Because of the extra light on to the playing surface that the main stand affords, it must be easier to keep the pitch in good nick.

If the main stand were the same size, or even larger, than the rest of the stadium, the playing surface would be adversely affected.

I always assumed that this was deliberate, but I don’t know.

    Tim,

I’m a not infrequent visitor to Newcastle’s ground (free tickets, hospitality, etc) and a few years ago I watched Taylor play a number of games. To be fair he was an excellent, old fashioned, win-the-ball-and-clear-it centre half. IF that is what you wanted he would have been your man (notice the past tense), but two points: our own James Forrest has pointed out that he is 30 years of age and has only played 270 games for Newcastle, and secondly, surely that is NOT the type of centre back we want to play for us in this day and age.

If the New Huns can persuade him to sign up he will be good for them, for a few games, then he will be imjured and costing them money. The MSM of course will harp on about us losing out to Der Hun – long may they keep up such stories. To every and any Sticky who mentions Taylor just ask them how many season tickets they have sold!

We also have a rolling UV light system to put sunlight on the pitch especially in winter. Helps a lot. Cannae afford that at home!

    Top wordsmithery. :))

  10. Pleasantly surprised — how is that for an understatement — by the response to the appointment of BR. If you build it they will come … and all that.

Just shows what a bit of effort can produce.

The stirrings of a growth agenda and a desire to move things on.

Unfortunately we have had to suffer 7 wasted years of the lacking, the cheap and the last man standing. Interesting to see the rate of return on a quality manager and quality coaching versus a scattergun effort to find a new CF — Boom of the month territory where 6 failures out of seven was and is a criminal waste of the supports hard earned cash.

Hopefully the big mo’ starts to take us forward.

Given our resources CL group stages should be very much within our grasp.

£2mill investment in a real manager and proper coaching to harvest £20mill in CL money.

Why didn’t we think of this earlier — could PL handle a manager who earned more than him?

Good management = Team performances better than the sum of the individuals involved.

Hopefully we can look forward to this situation developing this season.

    Hunderbirds are gone at 9.19.

You make a good point about the height of the South Stand.

The pitch from about ten or twenty feet from the dug outs was always very heavy and cut up a lot after it had been chucking it down.

About fifteen years ago , sheets of perspex were installed at the front of the South Stand roof to let more sunlight onto the south side of the pitch.

Stating the obvious with improvements in pitch drainage, that will also benefit our pitch.

We also use lighting rigs on the pitch to help the grass grow.

Pitches should be built south to north to get more light on them. Pollok’s Newlandsfielfd pitch , always has grass on it due to it sitting south to north.

Gerryfaethebrig told me his pal waited for five hours today to get his season ticket .

  12. If Celtic can Get into the Champions League group stages I imagine that would be more season tickets sold.

    Hunderbirds..,,

The pitch was a disaster this season and as robinbhoy rightly points out, the rolling UV lighting system used simulated 24 direct sunlight.

  16. On the upgrading of the stadium — it is more than the Main Stand that needs investment.

The club should put money into new and much enlarged facillities all round the ground.

Main stand — New lower tier with the roofline the same height as the rest of the ground.

Use the upper level to put in more hospitality, boxes and function rooms.

Make that area different from the rest of the ground.

Then sell the boxes to supporters clubs / groups.

Smaller mark up than the existing hospitality and go for volume.

There is too much of a gap between the mainstream seat prices and the first rung on the hospitality ladder / free pie seats. Close that gap and more people will trade up from the ordinary seats.

I enjoy reading your blog, your passion and enthusiasm are evident in your writing. Your projections for the newco are very optimistic I think, although you did suggest you were erring on the side of caution. I would like to see Celtic become like the Bayern Munich of Scotland, utterly dominant in every respect (although I hear they are a bit of an establishment club). I was pleased to here Brendan Rodgers use the word ‘domination’ a few times.

  19. In this day and age they can substitute natural light no bother, the grass will grow and we could always have a top pitch.

I know we use lights, I heard we reduced their use due to the very expensive running costs of the lighting rigs, person that told me sees them, or not when at their work

  20. Lullabies and Battle Cries are you a Hun :-0))

Maybe see you in Bruce’s Well wi’ the fashion statement on!

  21. Getting the pitch right is just a matter of desire and investment.

Lights, heaters, polytunnels — Gardeners Question Time would have this sorted in no time.

Another reason for investing in a small scale “Reserve” stadium somewhere close to CP.

Keep CP for the big games but get the youths and the development squad playing in Glasgow rather than Greenock and the like.

PV on the new main stand roof and a smallish wind turbine or two should do the trick.

A solar and turbine system would cost about £10K for the lighting rigs, it would pay itself back in a couple of years, they could also install solar panels and windies for a multitude of things, with the rising costs of leccy it makes sense to me.

  28. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

    TET,

As along as they don’t hook up to the mains there is no limit to the number of panels they install, if they want hook up and sell back to the grid it becomes a lot more difficult.
