  1. My friends in Celtic,

We have waited a looooooong time for a result like this. We can analise our failings to death , but i prefer to enjoy what we have just achieved. I realise that it is only three points, but it is a huge three points and a massive statement.

So what if we had certain failings , improvement is a continual process and is part of the journey. If we cannot find enjoyment from last night then we are watching the wrong team or even “sport”.

Freedom of speech is great and encourages constructive criticism; but sheer negativity i cannot comprehend.

HH . A great morning and the journey continues.

PS : If i was in any doubt what game was the bigger of the two ( Saturday or Wednesday ) then my feelings explain all. Saturday was for bragging rights, last night was the real deal.

  2. Be under no illusion as to the magnitude of that victory last night.

The importance of the effect it could have on this young sides development cannot be underestimated.

We’ve gone from the team who couldn’t buy a win away from home in the CL proper, to a victory that is not only one that gets the monkey off our back, it sees us unbeaten in the last 3 away ties played in Germany, England and now Belgium.

Brendan Rodgers is the best manager we have had since Jock Stein, in my opinion.

He operates in an arena that is so much more difficult than it ever has been due to the financial inequality. Whilst it’s also true that we enjoy that same advantage domestically, Brendan has managed to over achieve in that environment. 57 games undefeated, incorporating 52 wins is incredible. That level of consistency is testament to the professionalism of the man, his work ethic, and his undoubted passion for the club.

Pep, Jose, et al, would not achieve what Brendan has at Celtic. Operating with a restricted budget? Does anyone truly believe they would still be undefeated in domestic soccer? Treble winners? £90m turnover?

That tells me , that from a Celtic supporter viewpoint, we have the best manager in the world. No one would outperform him on a level playing field.

These are glorious times for us bhoys, yet may only be the beginning of better things yet. Last 16? Last 8? Double treble? 10 in a row?

Embrace these times bhoys. If anyone is unhappy with progress, then I suspect they will never be satisfied.

This is what it means to be Celtic, and I just can’t get enough.

    ………………..

    Two/Three points mate…

Thank God none of those who were slagging YOUNG Celtic players last night on this Blog…were in Anderlecht…as the negative comments might well have affected some Celtic players ?

All my life Ive have been fully aware of how Celtic FC constantly face negative press from those who hate us, we don’t need it from our own ?

What if ?…….Celtic make a few misplaced passes v Bayern ( which will most certainly happen, and I don’t need any Stats man to show me), and we then settle down a bit ( like last night), and start to play OUR Brand of football and come away with a draw..or maybe even a Win, will ANY Celtic Supporter really give a monkeys how many misplaced passes there might have been whilst playing in the Big Boys Playground ?

I DID post last night when I came home around 10pm that Paddy and Big Tam were almost AWOL in the 1st half, as I know what I am watching however, I wasn’t screaming at the Pub tv any negative views…I was shouting encouragement…and those Celtic Bhoys ( including N’Cham) maybe heard me because the 2nd half performance ( in particular) was superb imo.

I got a wee bit pissed off last night and this morning cos the negative views of some reminds me of ” Touchline Moaners” at kids and Celtic games who scream and shout at young players, and who have probably never kicked a ball in their feckin life ?

Would same posters be brave enough to shout and slag Celtic players if sitting next to Brendan ?

for over a year now especially since Brendans arrival we Celtic fans have been blessed….we should enjoy it no matter what comes along in future times, live for the moment imo.

I take my hat off to Olivier N’Cham in particular and as Big Sutty said, he knuckled down, and didn’t allow his nervous start to the game affect him…when of our many stand outs last night….and set up TWO of our goals. If I had been slagging him in the 1st half…I would have been too embarassed thereafter…the Bhoy done good.

    HH Mate.

    Well said young man.

Take Broony out the Scotland squad and give him a holiday.

    …………………………

Take ALL the Celtic Bhoys oot feck the SFA X1.

  6. Another advantage to having BR at the helm, is that he can turn a £1m player into a £10m player.

    Armstrong, Dembele, Brown……

When operating in today’s environment re the financial disadvantage, that ability is invaluable.

  7. GORBALSTAM on 28TH SEPTEMBER 2017 8:39 AM

I’d like to think that Ntcham bucked up his ideas because I was shouting at him via my TV for the first 20 minutes. Some turnaround by the bhoy and I hope this gives him the confidence to step up if Broony’s out for a while.

    ………………………

With all respect GORBALSTAM, while you were busy shouting AT N’Cham……I was shouting FOR HIM !

    There lies the difference imo

    HH

  8. Big Jimmy…give it a rest. I read no slagging of any player last night. You yourself admit N’Cham started nervously…is that slagging him off? Of course not…the players’ nervousness was pretty obvious and made some at home feel nervous too…that’s normal. The team overcame it and so did we all. Result? A great victory which we all delight in and which gives us confidence we can turn over Bayern in our next game. Let’s stop sniping at fellow Tims and turn our attention to our real enemies in the media…Enjoy your day…

Dear CQN Agony Aunts and Uncles

Once again I must confess I have been indulging my guilty pleasure of reading Follow Follow bear pit threads.

I’m worried that I am starting to enjoy the pain and misery of Sevco Huns more than the pleasure and happiness of my fellow Tim’s on CQN.

My obsession is becoming an unhealthy addiction

I think the Samaritans should set up a tent out side Hamilton’s ground on Friday night as there are a lot of Huns teetering on the brink of nervous collapse..or worse …going by the posts .

Some of it is worrying but mostly it is comedy gold. There are some genuine conspiracy theories revolving around how we are getting preferential treatment from foreign refs as well as those in Scotland.

    Am I obsessed?

    BIG JIMMY

I’m not a hun, by your thinking (not mine) I’ve done enough time watching celtic away in Europe to have a valid opinion on last nights game. I was there last time we played in Brussels

In my opinion it was a horrible game of football, anderlecht were shockingly poor, and I won’t get carried away and think this shows any great signs of improvement. Doesn’t stop me from enjoying the result and the three points

    ………………………………

In your earlier post you described last nights game and Celtic’s performance as being ” A CRIME against Football”…….I must have watched a different game from you ?

  11. Cultsbhoy says Hail Hail to Hector and Brendan on

I’m hoping for some media revision on our 5-0 defeat to PSG following both Celtic’s win and Bayern’s defeat by PSG last night.

I said it at the time. PSG will hand out a lot of doings with this team and some of those will be to better teams than Celtic.

It’s the inevitable consequence of united spending power. I don’t complain about it It’s the current football food chain.

  12. Week in and week out we Celts watch Celtic destroy SPL Teams who play “Horrible football” and yet we appear to take great pleasure most weeks in doing so…..are Anderlecht WORSE than Dundee, Hamilton, Ross County…..Sevco ?

    I don’t feckin think so !

Superb stuff from a young, and improving Celtic squad imo.

Thats the game that I watched.

Are you feckin happy with so called Celtic “supporters” on here describing Celtic’s performance last night as being…and I quote….” A CRIME AGAINST FOOTBALL” ?

Explain that as NOT being a direct slagging of Celtic FC ?

  17. Celtic have played 8 games in the Champions Lge so far winning 5 drawing 1 and losing. 2. Beating Rosenborg and Anderlecht’s are fairly big scalps away from home.

  18. Big Jimmy,

Bayern, is apparently in Bavaria, close to where the make them fancy motors, and not far from Munchen, which is a district in Munich. :-)

Bateen Bhoy, soon to be live from the Black Forest.

  19. I looked back on last nights experts when our game was being played, wow! 80% in here know f… all about European football, or, how to support Celtic, FF prob. Gave a better commentary of the game, to many Huns in here said it for years, that’s the reason I’m hardly in nowadays , not that I’d be missed :)) anyway! An outstanding job done by our team last night, but then again as some in here would say ….Team that keeps on winning can’t win, well not in Scottish main stream medias eyes anyway

    Celtic to others…

    Treble = no competition

No treble = we are in turmoil

CL lose = not good enough

CL win = opponents not good enough

  20. Joe Filippis Haircut on

Well done the hoops a great result last night and anyone who doubts how big the win was is deluded we are now challenging the Great Bayern Munich for second spot in the group. In Brendan Rodgers we have the best manager since Jock Stein he is doing wonders for our team.I dont know how the group will finish but I will never forget last nights game and how the Bhoys out classed Anderlecht the champions of Belgium in there own back yard so once again well done the Bhoys. H.H.

  21. Well done Celtic last night, a terrific turnaround after a nervy start, Ntcham in particular was very poor in the early stages but what a pass to KT and a great cross to set up the Griffalo for a clinical finish. Even in the early stages we were in control of the game, just struggling to create.

Thereafter apart from one lapse immediately after our first goal where they should have scored, we controlled the game well and Sinclair’s goal was the icing on the cake. In fact if we’d been a bit more clinical we could have scored more in the second half.

Onwards to Hibs, no letting up Bhoys!

  22. Morning all

I was in transit post work so only saw from 28 mins onwards. I gathered we played poorly in that period I missed and was told that Ntcham in particular was having a poor night.

I saw 66 minutes of the game and thought that in that time we played well with ON being particularly good after the first goal. I still prefer the idea of wee Paddy coming on with half an hour to play and worry that Tom Rogic has lost something since his injury last December but there was far more to be positive about than just the result. Of course I’d like to see us tidy up our passing- one misplaced effort by Lustig would have brought a goal to a better team than Anderlecht turned out to be- but 85% pass completion seems not bad to me.

I did not think we are suddenly a great team- any points v Bayern would be a great achievement despite their current bumpier-than-usual progress- but to describe last night’s match using words like ‘horrible’ and ‘dreadful’ seems to me to be largely wrong. We got what is probably our best ever score against a fully professional team away from home in Europe probably ever and in the 66 minutes I saw we looked an effective team with two excellent ball-playing centre backs, a fantastic left back, a superb skipper and a centre forward whose general play has improved out of sight in the last 12 months. And Scott Sinclair.

If this is horrible then I’ll keep it.

  23. Go tell the Spartim on

Full compliment of CB’s in 2 games running = equals two comfortable away wins and practically feck all for our GK to do.

There was a fair share of bedwetters pre, during and post game last night, you know the ones, take no enjoyment out of supporting Celtic

  24. Well done big Dedryck, son of Bienvenu Mandungu Boyata, coming back strong after another injury and playing a blinder in his home city.

  26. Cultsbhoy says Hail Hail to Hector and Brendan on

I said it when we qualified for group stages and I stand by it…anything is a bonus.

A draw is a bonus a win is a bonus, scoring a goal is a bonus.

Last night we won and scored three goals that’s a MASSIVE bonus.

So two things are important, firstly enjoy the ride..revel in success and even failure..we are in the CL. Secondly and most importantly for me..see this run as part of the longer building process. The process that could see us established as Scotland’s team in Europe for years to come.

Don’t worry about weak links..they can be replaced..and will be for next year..or maybe evening January.

Incidentally how much is a goal worth financially ?

  27. This time last year: ‘when we get rid of Boyata it will free up some wages’.

It’s a long read back on the 1000+ comments on this thread, but worth a look. Some posters were critical of the first-half performance, others just happy to be ahead. Some were even critical of the overall performance.

    So what?

Frankly,I don’t have a problem with criticism, particularly not when it’s well-meant. We all laugh at the huns who think they’re world-beaters,even when they canny beat, say,Montrose.

We shouldn’t be scared of negative reading of our performances. I’d be more worried about the-“We were immense today, the stats/scoreline don’t reflect our performance” type of comments.

  30. On the night Anderlecht only showed class in flashes & 2 goals came from defensive errors , but after 30 mins Celts had them sussed & played well.

This is a level where we can compete and I hope it makes chances of an EL place greater.

I’d rather a few more competitive games there than a miss match in the next stage of the CL.
