Anderson: not many societal organisations bring people together

114

“Football is at the heart of communities across Scotland, and there are not many societal organisations that bring people together nowadays, to catch them in a net when they fall.”  The words of James Anderson, Scottish football’s great benefactor, as he filled the game’s coffers with around £3m.

He said more, all of it worthy, but those words struck me.  Football has access to people that government and health services could never dream of.  It brings community to the lonely, it motivates thousands to help others, it gives a proud identity to some who were not given much respect when young.

Of course, a lot of idiots are also attracted to the spectacle and drama, but James ‘gets it’.  Build that man a statue!

  2. Thanks lhads for the SPFL link for the next vote.

    Very important to keep voting.

I was disappointed for Broony \0/ who missed out on pipping the hun for second place by 20 odd votes.

When I started on the voting, both Calmac and Moi were neck and neck with their opponents, but both pulled away to win by 4/5%.

Currently Eddy’s about 5% ahead but needs continued input until Friday morning to stay that way.

Keep clicking the link and voting. Sometimes you can just refresh the page and vote again.

Looks like our French wizard is here for the 10, so let’s give him our support.

    Hail Hail.

  3. I can’t believe that crap from Richard Macdonald, the Everyone & Everyone bloke.

Sevco FC are totally opposed to all forms of discrimination.

Really Richard? Do you ever listen to the words of the songs your fellow supporters sing? They do not even hide the deep-seated, bitter hatred of Catholics, Irish Catholics in particular.

Take a look at yourself. Do you really want to be associated with such people?

And to try to argue that these people are welcoming to everyone, what a joke!!

When you next meet up with your fellow fans, when you start singing the Billy Boys or other anti-Catholic songs, think about what you are singing.

“Opposed to all forms of discrimination”, I don’t think so.

And don’t think for one minute that these fellow supporters have forgiven and forgotten what you said.

So somebody told you in a phone call to Celtic Park about your season ticket refund? that ‘the Celtic players had not taken a pay cut?’

Whoever you were talking to either didn’t have the facts, and or was talking pure p@sh.

Thanks for posting that D. Apart from the fact that I like Brian Cox, according to my DNA test I’m also 100% Celt and have the same connection to Niall of the Nine Hostages and the High Kings of Ireland.

My ‘English’ wife née Murphy got the gene tests for us 2 Christmas’s ago but she appears to be a mixture of Viking and Celtic genes so I have great satisfaction in constantly reminding her that she is married to Royalty. 😄

The gene tests also showed, as expected, that we were not sevco fans as we were not related to one another.😉 😉

No, not during a phone call about my refund.

I will leave it there, you have posted what was put out there. I too have posted what was communicated to me and not through a phone call.

  8. Anyone raised the point about Sky, and how they’re going to handle BCD games next season ?

The SPFL have said that the Virtual Season Ticket option is – rightly in my humble opinon – only available to season ticket holders at each club.

Sky will, in one form or another, be covering every game, and all games will be transmitted live to ‘home’ season ticket holders. I believe their contract previously only allowed 4 games at any ground each season. Not sure that this is the case with the new contract , but I don’t imagine it would be much different in normal circumstances. Normal circumstances won’t be in place for a considerable time though.

Knowing how Sky have acted in the past, I would not be the smallest bit surprised if they have negotiated with the SPFL and member clubs to sell their own season tickets for non-season ticket holders of SPFL clubs, or a seperate PPV option for individual games. Expect an announcement sometime shortly after the passing of renewal deadlines at all Clubs

Clubs will probably get nothing extra for this. £40 per month will get you a couple of home games at Celtic Park, extra probably, if you want to watch away games – something along these lines is quite likely, I expect. I really can’t see them passing up the opportunity to fleece Scottish fans – and clubs – as they’ve done for years. All monies pocketed by Sky.

If this happens, the the VST as a season ticket holder is worth a whole lot more, given that you’re guaranteed a seat inside Celtic Park as soon as is practically, and logistically possible, to see history in the making this season, and a front row seat at all away games.

Have been thinking about a season ticket for a couple of years now, but work, and life in general prevent me from being able to travel to every home game. Instead, I’ve had to buy tickets for individual games as and when I’m able to travel, and the likelihood of being able to do that this year, and probably well into next year, seems very remote due to restrictions caused by ‘social distancing’ and limited crowd numbers.

  9. !!Bada Bing!! on

BB- agree,Sky will sell any games they are covering on a PPV basis,or 3 games for ¥15 or similar. PL could do with doing a Q&A on CTV and let us know a bit more about how he sees the next few months panning out,you might not like what he has to say, but give us as much information as he can.

  10. Tim Malone Will Tell on

    Bateen Bhoy

Things might eventually play out along the lines you have described – but I would think that club/football association will contractually get their share of £40 per month or £10 ppv from SKY.

There is no benefit to SKY if Scottish football dies on its arse or if disgruntled punters decide to cancel subscriptions.

We are in uncharted territory, a new financial model is both a threat or an opportunity.

  11. BATEEN BHOY on 11TH JUNE 2020 8:30 AM

It’s pretty rare that Celtic home games are broadcast on Sky. The only games you see from Parkhead are Sevco derbies.

I don’t think you will see any change. I really don’t think Celtic home games will be broadcast on Sky.

  12. Batteen boy, What’s wrong with non-season-ticket holders being able to buy a virtual season-ticket after the full season ticket allocations has been sold? I think the club & sky are missing a huge market here. During these troubled times there will be families who have sat together for the full nine in a row possibly struggling financially to get to the 10, they will have 2-4 virtual season tickets between them! I would be more than happy to pay 200/£300 for a virtual season-ticket from them as I cannot attend, this would then lessen the burden on season-ticket holders & let me see the 10, win win for fans, probably contravening terms & conditions?

    a) I agree that it is `vacuous nonsense`;

    b) I don`t think you would be `… quite happy if fat boy won this…`;

    c) Were he ( Fat Boy) to do so, the MSSM would certainly not treat it as ` vacuous nonsense`.

    c) Is the reason I clicked on Calmac and Eddy.( Apart from the fact that I believe they are far and away the best in their positions.). I would, though, have liked to have voted for both Broonie AND Calmac.

  16. My friends in Celtic,

I can’t make every home game.

When I do go I enjoy the whole match day experience. ( Win or lose )

I do not think social distancing will work for football games while keeping the enjoyment factor.

How do we get there and back for a start. ?Public transport can not facilitate and supporters buses will be totally un-economical.

    HH to all.

  17. G-D.

We can’t sell League or Cup games in the UK or Ireland plain & simple.

Neither can Man United or Liverpool or any other Club.

The games are not ours to sell. The individual Leagues do deals with Broadcasters & sell the rights.

The virtual Season Ticket for existing Season Ticket Holders is a one off concession by Sky simply to help Clubs survive.

  18. Bada

That’s terrific news. Hope the club gives us a decent update on things soon. Too much guesswork goiung around and it seems like there’s progress with some.

    HEBCELT @ 4:58 am

Greetings, HEBCELT, you are up early! Thanks for the concern re my logging on. I do indeed incur sporadic difficulties, which can be very frustrating. I performed all the remedial measures many moons ago – Java is disabled, I have not one, but three Adblockers, and I have tested all the available browsers, ending up on Chrome.

The net effect is that I have zero adverts, including that for Turkish Airlines, which defied my first 2 Adblockers. I do have a constantly running small frame football video, and a puzzling black bar at the bottom of the screen. Both can be Xed out if I scroll to the left, but one wonders why that has to be done every single time one logs on.

The primary difficulty is logging on. I can never stay logged on for any length of time. I enter the user name and password, click ‘remember me’ and ‘log on’, and invariably end up back where I started! When I do get on, and find the last page not up to date, then refresh, the same thing happens. This is annoying, and I have consequently spent more of my time on Sentinel Celts.

I’m glad you posted, because I was going to send you a private email today. Yesterday, I received a parcel from Guershader, which puzzled me, as I know many people from Lewis, but not from there. I think you had something to do with it, as it was a beautiful Stornoway Saltire CSC shirt sent by Ross Munro. He asked me to post a pic on Facebook, but I don’t subscribe to it, so thank you very much for that kind gesture, and please thank Ross for me. If you have an email address for him, and send it to Iniquitous@verizon.net I will be glad to scan a pic for him by return email.

I was actually all booked for Stornoway via Iceland in April. I was going to see mates in Glasgow, my brother in Manchester, friends in rural Wales, and finally my aunt at the Lewis Trust Home. It all went up in smoke. I have vouchers from Icelandair good for 4 years, and from Loganair for an optimistic 12 months. So here’s hoping.

    Anyway, Thanks again HEB!
