ANGE CLEAR-OUT: JOHNSTON NEXT?

MIKEY JOHNSTON is poised to join Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic clear-out.

The 23-year-old winger will be on his way in a loan deal with the Hoops boss eager for the player to get game time, according to a report in the Scottish Sun.

Intriguingly, former Parkhead gaffer Ronny Deila, now in charge of Belgian outfit Standard Liege, has been linked with an interest in the former Scotland Under-21 star.

Clubs across the UK – Championship and League One – and Europe have been alerted to the fact Postecoglou is likely to sanction a temporary transfer for the tricky touchline operator who was tipped for great things when he burst on the scene during the Brendan Rodgers era.

In recent years, though, his progress has been hampered by injury and loss of form and a short-term deal could help him in his quest for regular games.

Aberdeen were interested in January – with Scott Brown, as the Dons’ player/coach, possibly behind the move – but manager Stephen Glass was sacked following  the Scottish Cup exit to Motherwell.

The former Hoops skipper followed his gaffer shortly afterwards and that ended the speculation.

Johnston was one of 10 Celts mentioned who could be on his way in a special CQN report earlier this month.

Three have already gone with blunder Bhoy Boli Bolingoli heading back to Belgium and rookie keeper Ross Doohan landing a deal at Tranmere Rovers.

Ivorian midfielder Ismaila Soro also agreed a season-long loan at Portuguese top-flight Acoura.

Others will follow before the transfer window close on midnight August 31.
