You forget the ones you win so quickly. Details from the 6-0 disposal of KR Reykjavik, only a year ago are difficult to recall, not so Ferencvaros in the next round. One year earlier, it was Cluj who scored four at Celtic Park to eliminate us from the Champions League, details of that night are forever etched in your memory.
Vasilis Barkas made his Celtic Park debut with a successful AEK Athens side in 2018. AEK were not world-beaters but were the best team to knock us out of Champions League qualifiers over the last decade.
Having won a reprieve from a 6-1 aggregate defeat to Legia Warsaw, Ronny Deila had Champions League qualification in his hands after dominating in a draw away to Maribor, but the loss of a late goal at home was a portent for his time at the club. The next season’s elimination to Malmo was even more painful. Ferencvaros, Cluj, Maribor and Malmo is a tale of what could and should have been.
Even with our fragilities, Celtic are a better side than Midtjylland. I doubt they have a single player who interested Ange Postecoglou as a signing target.
Did you notice how Ange reframed challenges as opportunities? “You can always grasp for excuses and reasons why you can’t do something, but there’s an opportunity to do something special and it falls on the players who are available. There’s no reason why they can’t take that.”
I like this type of thinking, it inspires people to aim ever higher. Pick up the challenge, Celtic, and we can consign Midtjylland to distant memory, along with Riga and Kalju Nomme.

Ignore the back five and it’s not a bad side….
SETTING FREE THE BEARS FOR RES. 12 & OSCAR KNOX on 28TH JULY 2021 4:50 PM
Thanks for setting me right, I’ll be good from now on….
hopefully find a pub in Malta tonight for the game , The Dubliner is ten minutes from hotel so hopefully they have it ! 1.0 christie
Think that establishes the fact that Ange doesn’t rate Barkas either….
Ange is between a rock and a hard place, however I feel he has picked the strongest starting eleven at his disposal…even if it means fielding the most inexperienced back four ever in an important European tie – that says so much.
The upside could be, if we prevail, a massive confidence boost for Ange and the players involved as we approach the season proper – but I wouldn’t bet on it.
We’re not half of anything …
Oh wait , we’re half a good side …😜😁😁
That back 5 is scary, could we have contrived to have a more worrying set up?
At least we don’t have Duffy and his wages will easily cover the whole back 5, every cloud etc, etc
TGD CSC
Imagine someone had presented this team to you a year ago…laughable and totally avoidable as well….
It’s deja vu all over again – Barkas, Bain; Bain, Barkas. Would it surprise anyone if Hazard is in goals against Hearts on Saturday night???
This is appalling. Get a No 1 keeper signed pronto.
JHB what does Bill Leckie think?
On a positive note this is a great opportunity for Ange. Come through this, against the odds, and it’s a great start for him

Great support for a ghuy who hasn’t even kicked a ball for us.
Can you not wait for his first mistake at least

Its not kicking the ball thats the problem . Its heading it . If we do sign him he will get 100% backing from me pal .
live updates up
Maybe Leckie should be the new DOF?
With JHB as moral arbiter.
Don’t think I will bother looking for the game tonight, ! enjoy the last night of holiday!
Should be an exciting game for the neutrals.
A terrifying one for the supporters.
But a wonderful one if the result goes the right way
Loving the shock and outrage at the back 5. We’ve known for a week what it’s going to be

You might be referring to the Coastal Inn, John St., Cellardyke. Very ‘mixed’ pub, but with a good chargehand frae Aberdeen called Angus. Watched a couple of the Scotland games there.
SFTB
“I wasn’t referring to the small gym at the bottom of John Street but to the new building above the registery office, opposite the Union which opened around 1976.”
You must be a younger man than I, SFTB. I graduated in 1969, then again in 1972. I never had the pleasure of visiting the gym opposite the Union.
Ange must be seeing & hearing something on the training ground in order to select Eddy. We have to trust the manager on this one, I suppose.
Maybe he’ll score a ‘swan song’ hat-trick…. but again I wouldn’t bet on it.
Iniquitous
We are both old.
The new (mid 70s) gym on John Street has now been replaced by an even better faciltiy on Cathedral Street nearer the Royal Infirmary and Cathedral
