Ange, Spurs, the process remains in place

243

I’ve avoided writing about the manager’s position until now. The Scottish Cup Final is a huge game for the club and as Ange made clear, our focus should be on nothing else. With the nation’s media now telling us Ange will become the next Tottenham manager, I think you and I can be forgiven for thinking we are not alone in losing focus before a cup final. That’s a pity.

Tottenham income to June 2022 was five times higher than Celtic’s. The Athletic reported Antonio Conte, their last permanent manager, earned £15m a year. In a season there, Ange would earn more money than he has in the rest of his career. Park all the ‘professional challenge’ guff, if he is wanted, there is no question of him taking the job, the money makes sure of that. Life in London is fabulous for someone earning millions a year, no matter what happens on a Saturday afternoon.

He is not away yet and it is not beyond Daniel Levy to make a mess of things, but if he goes, it would be a blow. Ange is likeable, does not play games with the board, delivers within budget and is successful. It would, however, not be a fatal blow.

We stand to lose Ange to one of the City Group’s former men. Tottenham appointed Scott Munn as chief football officer eight weeks ago. Munn knows Ange from their days in Australia, before he became City Group CEO in China, the nearest overseas territory when Ange was a City Group manager in Japan.

There is a bit of karma here, as it was another former City Group exec, Mark Lawwell, who recommended Ange to Celtic in the spring of 2021. Our incredibly rapid rebuild in 2021, from the appointment of Ange Postecoglou forward, benefited enormously from City Group’s research and processes.

In July 2022, after nine years, Mark left City Group to become Celtic’s Head of First Team Scouting and Recruitment. He understood that a little-known Australian working in Japan was perfect option for Celtic and I am sure he will have strong recommendations. The process that found one transformational manager can find another.

A decade ago, everyone wanted a piece of Barcelona. Now, City Group are the only show in town. We employ the same research and evaluation resources, look for the same indicators but work in a market that is not competitive with City Group’s jewel. We have achieved a huge amount of development in the football department in two years.  All that remains in place, irrespective of the manager

If Celtic continue to be as successful as they are, we will lose managers and important players on a regular basis. Bringing in replacements is just part of the process.  Trust that process.

  1. Romano, suggesting Luis Enrique is interested in Spurs job, had been negotiating with Napoli but has put these talks on hold.

Also had text earlier saying a known Hun Sky Reporter is saying Ange will sign a new Celtic deal, it’s not over till it’s over but I am getting more confident that Ange will stay.

  2. Been out all day trying to change the wifes brit driving licence for a Spanish one, jeezo, bureaucracy, hunbelievable, it’s not a licence as such as she lost it, so the DVLC in Swansea gave her a cert with all the particulars on it, it is good enough but they have put the wrong date of birth on it, so the computer says NO, this is after she passed her medical bit, anyways, watched Ange’s presser and was even more convinced that he was staying, then I read Paul’s leader and for sure he is for the ofski, what the eff to believe.

I agree with those who say that if he is staying just efin say so.

As a betting man I would wager that he is gonna stay.

Now we have Lenny saying that he wouldn’t rule out coming back, FFS, ma heeds gonna explode, arrrrggghhhhh.

    ……………………….

Great stuff Big Jimmy, really happy for you.

  3. Corkcelt,

That Sky story was from a fake account, run by a Tim.

Many straws will be clutched in the next few days but given he could clearly choose to put this to bed, but won’t, suggests he’s offski, or seriously considering the option.

  4. Rodgers was very successful with Leicester, obviously train came off the tracks this year.

Reckon if they stuck with him they wouldn’t have been relegated but that is something we will never know.

Ange won’t say he’s not interested in the Spurs job because he hasn’t been offered the Spurs job.

Similarly, in various press conferences over the past year, when asked if he sees himself having a long term future at Celtic, he always said — I can’t answer that because I might get sacked.

I find it strange that no journalist has asked him if he’s been offered the Spurs job or been approached by Spurs. Obviously because they already know the answer and don’t want to kill the story stone dead.

  6. Away from the Ange leaving debate there are a couple of very interesting ties tonight.

Stuttgart v Hamburg is getting a lot of scrutiny on Follow Follow after their Hun cousins were beaten to an automatic promo place by 2 injury time goals for Heidenheim.

Their mid July hun fest would be all the stronger in pre season cup value points if the Hamburger were a bundesliga 1 team.

Also the Jags v Ross Co will be interesting.

  7. Tom M

His response would be I am focusing on the cup final and nothing else.

No point on that question. IMO

Still hoping you win the bet but still also certain you won’t sadly.

  8. If someone at Spurs is leaking the stuff about Ange then they are doing him a great disservice, and not respecting what he is trying to achieve this week. Please read this Ange and tell them where to go (if you read CQN that is).

  13. Ange’s silence is not sinister, guys in his position can’t afford to be mouthing off.

Even if has already signed a new Celtic contract he can’t let the cat out of the bag.

In the first instance as already stated here that type of news has to broken to Stock Exchange before it goes Public, equally if he is going to Spurs the same rules apply.

So ghuys saying why doesn’t he say one way or the other are not being realistic.

There could be plenty of reasons why Celtic would want to delay an announcement, Sponsorship deals etc.

I don’t know any more or any less than anybody else, but my guess is he will stay another year at least.

  14. carpe diem 63 on

Curious point …do you think if Ange goes to Spurs ..it will be a one year rolling contract …eh no …me neither

  15. I love the old comforting reliance of the stock market rules as a way of dealing with orderly departures.

Reminds me of KT’s story that after his team talk with Rodgers late in the afternoon, he woke up the following morning and the news story that Brendan was the new manager of Leicester. Never seen him again.

  16. ANGE isn’t going away, he brought his players from the other side of the world to play for him /us….. He has morals so won’t leave them in the lurch….Unless the bassa is taking them with him !!

    🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣.

We’ll still be there in our thousands next year…… Whoever is in charge.

It’s fairly simple. Kill all of the speculation now eclipsing the preparation for the final. Just say you are staying. Not rocket science….

    It’s not fairly simple.alas.

Rocket science may be needed to explain to you the confidential nature of £multimillion contracts with our own parties let alone commenting on the speculative nature of what snowballs in our media from another league in another country.

There is no rocket science needed when it comes to you belittling the manager who gave Celtic their 2nd 9iar.it helps you drop in you were an unhappy customer at not getting 10.ah well better oot than in.

    Hope alls good your way.
